U Spy 2019 Cadillac CT6 With Escala Concept-Inspired Refresh 7
Dec

Cadillac continues the development of the facelifted 2019 CT6 in Colorado, where our reader Brett Borgard spotted them unloading a camouflaged prototype out of a truck.

The car is still covered in camo tape and the only thing that sticks out is the new front fascia which takes inspiration from the Cadillac Escala concept. We’ll remind you that the Escala was based on the CT6 sporting a four-dour coupe-style body with a liftback and a 500-horsepower 4.2L twin-turbo V8.

Expect to see the new 2019 CT6 sporting a similar front grille and sleeker-looking headlights, features that will eventually pass on to every future Cadillac model – redesigned or new.

The company is already offering the current CT6 with its Super Cruise semi-autonomous system and the updated model is expected to add more premium features into the mix, including high-tech systems and more luxury in general.

There are some rumors talking about Cadillac finally offering a pair of high-performance variants, in the form of a CT6 V-Sport and a range-topping CT6-V. If that’s the case, then expect to see an upgraded twin-turbo V6 hiding under the bonnet or even an upgraded twin-turbo V8 engine, as seen on the Escala Concept. The plug-in hybrid version will also stay.

Expect to see the car for the first time in production form within the next 12-18 months.

Thanks to Brett for the shots!

BMW Tests The Upcoming X7 Near Munich 6
Dec
Posted by Brad Anderson in BMW, BMW Scoops, BMW X7, Scoops, SUV, U Spy on 12 6th, 2017

The BMW X7 is arguably the most eagerly-anticipated vehicle currently being developed by the German carmaker and when it launches, is almost guaranteed to sell in considerable numbers.

BMW has been testing X7 prototypes for well over a year and Carscoops reader Krystian Granatowski recently snapped some images of one on a highway near Munich.

As with previous prototypes scooped testing in recent months, this example is bathed in white and black camouflage that hides most of its key design traits. In fact, all we can ascertain from the images is that the X7 will feature a huge kidney front grille, roof rails, black wheel arches, and large rectangular tailpipes.

Beneath the skin, the X7 utilizes BMW’s CLAR platform, already in use with the latest-generation 5- and 7-Series. A host of petrol and diesel engines in six- and eight-cylinder configurations are widely expected, as is a plug-in hybrid with a four-cylinder.

Much to the delight of President Donald Trump, BMW confirmed last year that the X7 will be built in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The SUV should hit the streets as a 2019MY.

Hat tip to Krystian Granatowski for the photos!

U Spy: BMW Testing 2019 3-Series Alongside Mini Prototype 5

The G20 3-Series is one of the most eagerly anticipated cars set to debut in 2018, and a prototype was spotted by one of our readers in Slovenia just a few days ago.

It’s well covered up in camo, so we can’t make out all the details, but thanks to the light bouncing off the side of the car, we can actually see its creases really well. Unsurprisingly, the 2019 BMW 3-Series seems to take after its larger sibling, the 5-Series, and adopt a more dynamic exterior design than the current model.

What the car will look like inside is actually less of a mystery, since we have already seen a couple of prototypes with their windows cracked open. Aside from the new digital gauge display, we also noticed a new shifter design, which might be adopted by either all the range or just the iPerformance variant.

As for what we’re going to find underneath the hood of the G20 3-Series, we expect a wide range of petrol and diesel units joined by at least one electrified model.

So what about that camouflaged Mini Cabrio thas was following the Bimmer then? Unfortunately, there isn’t much we can tell you about it, though it could be hiding a few facelift-worthy upgrades, especially on the powertrain side, as its 1.5-liter petrol units are expected to get turbochargers with aluminum casings, while cooling systems should improve across the range. There are also rumors that Mini might be working on a dual-clutch transmission, but at this point all we can do is speculate.

U Spy Updated 2020 Karma Revero In California 1
Dec
Posted by Michael Karkafiris in Karma, Karma Revero, Karma Scoops, PHEV, Scoops, U Spy on 12 1st, 2017

Karma is working on a revised version of the Revero, which in turn is an updated Fisker Karma, and these photos show a camouflaged prototype as spotted by our good reader Michael in Lake Forest, California.

The updated Revero will sport new front and rear ends in a bid to give it that much needed fresh appeal.

The current Karma Revero was launched in late 2016, remaining visually almost identical to the Fisker version, as the changes were limited to new parts and technologies in order to make it more relevant. The all-electric range was EPA-rated at 37 miles while the combined fuel economy scored 35MPGe.

The new version is expected to offer a longer electric range but there isn’t much information on what changes are planned for the series-hybrid powertrain. The current model uses a turbocharged 260hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder with twin electric motors for a combined 403hp.

Back in 2014, Chinese Wanxiang Group bought the rights to the Fisker Karma and revived it in late 2016 under a then-new company called Karma. The new Karma Revero is expected to show up in 2019 but whether it’ll be able to successfully compete with the new electric entries from major car makers remains to be seen.

U Spy The 2019 Honda Pilot Facelift In California 28
Nov
Posted by Michael Gauthier in honda, Honda Pilot, Honda Scoops, Scoops, U Spy on 11 28th, 2017

The redesigned 2019 Honda Pilot has been spied by a CarScoops reader in Mojave, California.

While the third-generation model is only a couple of years old, it appears the company is preparing to give its three-row crossover a facelift to keep it competitive with newer rivals such as the Chevrolet Traverse.

Since the prototype is heavily camouflaged, styling changes are hard to spot. However, we can expect the usual updates including a revised front fascia with new headlights and possibly a modified grille that echoes the CR-V or Ridgeline. The crossover could also be equipped new taillights and an updated interior but we’ll likely have to wait a little bit longer to know for sure.

The third-generation Honda Pilot debuted at the Chicago Auto Show in 2015 and it features a 3.5-liter V6 engine which develops 280 hp (208 kW) and 262 lb-ft (354 Nm) of torque. Base models are equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, while Touring and Elite variants receive a nine-speed gearbox.

It’s possible the latter transmission could become standard when the facelifted model is introduced but nothing is official as of yet. However, if this does occur, we can a expect a minor improvement in fuel-efficiency as models with the nine-speed gearbox get an additional 1 mpg city and 1 mpg combined.

Thanks to CarScoops reader Tony for the pictures!

U Spy: All-New BMW X5 And 8-Series Coupe Cruising Through Slovenia 27
Nov
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in BMW, BMW 8-Series, BMW Scoops, BMW X5, Scoops, U Spy on 11 27th, 2017

Since both the new BMW X5 and 8-Series cars will be launched sometime next year, your favorite Bavarian automaker is still busy testing as many prototypes as it can in cities around the world.

One of our readers, Miha, caught these two cars on camera in Ljubljana, Slovenia recently, and at least as far as the X5 is concerned, the SUV seems to be one of the earlier prototypes.

Judging by its license plate, it was probably registered around the same time as this G05 X5 prototype, spotted in Copenhagen back in April. As you can see, the camouflage is just as heavy, revealing very little about the SUVs shape and design elements.

Thankfully, we already caught a glimpse of the new X5 wearing very light camouflage earlier this month. Compared to the current model, the new car features a leaner exterior with larger kidney grilles, a more pronounced shark nose and possibly even smaller taillights.

Underneath all that, the all-new BMW X5 utilizes the automaker’s CLAR (cluster architecture) modular platform, also found in the 5-Series and 7-Series – with which it will share a variety of petrol and diesel engines. Some sources suggest that the 2019 X5 could be up to 250-300 kg (550 lbs to 660 lbs) lighter than its predecessor, something that will help improve performance, handling and fuel economy figures.

As for the 8-Series Coupe, the Germans are playing their cards very close to the chest when it comes to its design, although we know it will resemble the 8-Series Concept, the question is, how closely?

While this particular prototype is just as well-camouflaged as any of the other cars we’ve seen, we have actually taken a peak inside the cabin on a separate occasion and we can tell you that there are some similarities to the Concept, specifically the button configuration or the gauge cluster.

Like the new X5, the 8-Series will also utilize the CLAR platform, offering customers a choice of Coupe or Convertible, with an M8 version set to take its rightful place as the flagship of the range.

Thanks to Miha

Why Is Land Rover Testing This Pair Of Camouflaged SUVs At The ‘Ring? 19
Nov
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in Land Rover, Land Rover Discovery, Land Rover Scoops, Range Rover, Scoops, U Spy on 11 19th, 2017

These two Land Rover SUVs were spotted recently by one of our readers in a parking garage at the Nurburgring, both cars heavily camouflaged, which is always intriguing to see.

While it may seem like there isn’t much to go on, we can tell you that the Range Rover in these images is probably the new facelifted model, based on its leather upholstery and steering wheel.

We saw both those leather seat options on the 2018 Range Rover last month when the official press release came out. Why the automaker is still testing it and why it’s so well hidden, is hard to say.

Also, if you look closely at the wheels, you’ll see those are the large 22″ 5 split-spoke wheels, available only on the range-topping SVAutobiography Dynamic, which this could definitely be, although it still doesn’t explain the camouflage.

As for the other SUV, which is a Land Rover Discovery, it actually doesn’t look out of the ordinary at all. Its only discernible feature is the fact that it’s got roof rails, which doesn’t mean anything really. Nevertheless, going to all the trouble to put on the camo, and at the Nurburgring at that, does raises questions, but your guess is as good as ours, so feel free to chip in.

2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS Scooped In Stuttgart Before LA Debut 8
Nov
Posted by Brad Anderson in LA Auto Show, mercedes, Mercedes CLS, Mercedes Scoops, Mercedes Videos, Scoops, U Spy, video on 11 8th, 2017

As the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS inches closer towards its global premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show in three weeks, Carscoops reader Tom Phipps has spotted a camouflaged prototype on the streets of Stuttgart.

Due to the camouflage covering the vast majority of the car’s exterior, it is difficult to know exactly what CLS variant was being tested by Mercedes-Benz. With that being said, the presence of five-spoke sports wheels and quad tailpipes indicates that it could be one of the impending AMG variants.

In August, it was revealed that Mercedes-AMG won’t just create ‘63’ versions of the CLS but also produce CLS43 and CLS53 models. The versions of the latter will use a tuned version of the Mercedes M256 inline six-cylinder engine and should deliver approximately 430 hp. It is, therefore, possible that this prototype is a CLS53 or either a V8-powered CLS63.

Whatever the case may be, we know the new CLS will be underpinned by the same platform as the E-Class but be slightly longer and wider.

Hat tip to Tom Phipps for the scoop!

2018 Mercedes A-Class Spotted On The Streets Of Germany 12
Oct
Posted by Michael Gauthier in mercedes, Mercedes A-Class, Mercedes Scoops, Scoops, U Spy on 10 12th, 2017

The 2018 Mercedes A-Class has been spotted on the streets of Schweinfurt, Germany by CarScoops reader Ismail.

Dressed in familiar black and white camouflage, the redesigned model will follow in the footsteps of its predecessor but adopt a more stylish and upscale design. Details are hard to make out but we can expect slimmer headlights, door-mounted mirrors, and a more rakish rear window.

Previous spy photos have shown the cabin will get a high-tech makeover and be offered with a digital instrument cluster as well as a new infotainment system. The model is also slated to have circular air vents and a three-spoke steering wheel.

Engine options remain unconfirmed but we can expect an assortment of petrol and diesel options including an A40 AMG with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing around 340 hp (253 kW). Buyers looking for something more powerful can wait for the A45 AMG which is expected to have an all-new engine developing around 402 hp (300 kW).

The latest A-Class is expected to ride an updated version of the MFA platform. Little is known about the architecture but it is expected to grow in size to create a more accommodating cabin. Despite being larger, the platform is expected to be lighter than its predecessor and rumors have suggested the new A-Class will drop around 50 kg (101 lbs).

Thanks to Ismail for the tip!
