NHTSA May Get Ford To Recall 1.4 Million Pickups And SUVs 3

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) may get Ford to widen a recall for vehicles with faulty transmissions.

In 2016, the car manufacturer recalled 153,000 vehicles as their automatic transmissions could unexpectedly shift into first gear. Vehicles impacted included select F-150, Expedition, Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Mustang models.

The Detroit Free Press reports that the NHTSA is now investigating whether the recall should have in fact included up to 1.4 million F-150s, Navigators, and Expeditions from the 2011, 2012, and 2013 model years.

According to the NHTSA, a number of owners have complained, stating that Ford’s repairs didn’t work.

Ford says it is cooperating with the investigation.

Ford Expedition “Baja-Forged Adventurer” Winks At Raptor-Loving Families 2

This is probably the closest the Ford Expedition will ever get to a Raptor and we love it.

Ford brought the Expedition “Baja-Forged Adventurer” to LA Auto Show, following its debut in SEMA a few weeks back.

Built by LGE-CTS Motorsports, this Expedition features custom fender flares in order to fit 35-inch Mud-Terrains, special bumpers for more ground clearance and protection and an uprated ICON Vehicle Dynamics suspension.

The list of upgrades doesn’t stop there though as this one-off rugged version also comes with a Borla cat-back exhaust, a big brake kit from Sparta Evolution, KC HiLites LEDs, a tent and a fridge/freezer. Inside we get custom leather seats, an upgraded audio system and a safe from Console Vault.

The whole idea was to turn the Expedition into a proper off-road adventurer that can fit seven passengers in style and comfort and judging from the looks, the Baja-Forged Adventurer nails the description perfectly.

2018 NACTOY Finalists Announced, Can You Pick The Winners? 29

The 2018 North American Car, Truck and Utility of the Year (NACTOY) finalists have been announced at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The shortlist includes three names in each category, which were chosen by a panel of nearly 60 automotive journalists, following some extensive testing. The jurors will now have to trim down the list furthermore by announcing the big winners, on January 15, at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show.

However, until they do, let’s take a look at the 2018 North American Car of the Year category, which sees the Alfa Romeo Giulia, Audi A5 Sportback, BMW 5-Series, Hyundai Ioniq, Kia Rio, Lexus LC500, Porsche Panamera, and Subaru Impreza removed, as the only vehicles still present are the Honda Accord, Kia Stinger, and Toyota Camry.

The 2018 North American Utility of the Year award, on the other hand, will go to the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Honda Odyssey, or Volvo XC60. These were favored over the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Equinox, Chevrolet Traverse, Jeep Compass, Kia Niro, Land Rover Discovery, Mazda CX-5, Subaru Crosstrek, Volkswagen Atlas, and Volkswagen Tiguan.

Things don’t look different at all in the 2018 North American Truck of the Year category, as the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, Ford Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator are still very much present.

“The task of selecting these nine finalists – especially in the car and ultra-competitive category – was extremely difficult”, said the organization’s Secretary-Treasurer Lauren Fix. “And while there may be some favorites among the finalists, any of these vehicles could end up walking away with the trophy in their category, when we announce the winners in Detroit, in January.”

Last year, the Chevrolet Bolt was named North American Car of the Year, whereas the Truck of the Year and Utility of the Year awards went to the Honda Ridgeline, and Chrysler Pacifica, respectively.

New Ford Expedition Looks Promising In First Reviews 10

The new Ford Expedition is the latest entry in the full-size SUV segment, bringing lots of tech, more space and better fuel economy.

Just like the F-150, the all-new Expedition take advantage of a high-strength aluminum body to shed a significant amount of weight off its shoulders, with Ford claiming up to 300lbs in weight savings.

The now familiar 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine is the only option in the range, offering 375hp in all models bar the range-topping Platinum which comes with 400hp. A 10-speed automatic transmission sends power to either the rear or all four wheels, depending which version you go for.

All-wheel drive models come fitted with a new electronic limited-slip differential while the All-Terrain management system offers seven different drive modes: Normal, Sport, Tow/Haul, Eco, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Sand and Mud/Rut.

The cabin can fit up to eight passengers, with those sitting in the third row to benefit from a very useful increase in space, thanks to the adoption of an independent rear suspension that allows a lower floor.

Creature comforts like wireless charging, Wi-Fi hotspot, a modern SYNC 3 infotainment system, four 12-volt power points, six USB ports and a 110-volt power outlet are there to make the cavernous interior even more practical.

Is it as good as it sounds? The first reviews of the 2018 Ford Expedition from KBB and Edmunds are in, so let’s find out.
