Renault’s new concept car is so modern and futuristic, you would swear that it came straight out of a sic-fi film. However, that’s not the case – this car is the result of months of imagining, re-imagining and design by Renault designers worldwide.

The Renault Kwid is the company’s new concept. It was first introduced at the 2014 New Dehli Auto Expo in India. The car itself is also inspired by India, and designed to fit into the small roads across India.

The car itself is a small SUV, with super modern designs on both the exterior and interior. Renault says they plan on putting a 1.2 liter turbocharged engine inside the Kwid – so it won’t be too slow either.

But, the best part about the new Kwid is not its exceptional modern design or compact body, but it’s ‘attachment’. On the roof of the car, is a flying, quadcopter drone that literally launches from the roof. Sound crazy? Well, it’s not – it’s incredible.

Renault calls this drone the Kwid’s ‘flying companion’. The idea is that the drone, which can be controlled manually from a tablet on the car’s dashboard or fly autonomously, can fly ahead of where the car is traveling and check for traffic jams or other road related problems.

The drone is also able to then relay a live video back to the car, so you can see what is going on meters in front of you.

The inside, which really looks the inside of a stereotypical ‘space car’, is probably one of the most modern layouts we’ve ever seen. Firstly, the steering wheel isn’t positioned on either the left or the right side of the car, but rather slap bang in the middle. It then features a tablet on the left-hand side.

In a video Renault released about the concept, they explain that this is the most ‘international’ car hey have ever designed; with designers from different countries contributing to the final product.

You can check out the video below along with another video which details the drone:

It seems that Hollywood rappers really have a thing for supercars and bright colours. And then proceeding to mix their love of fast cars with their love of colour.

A few weeks ago, we reported on Nicki Minaj’s custom, Barbie pink Lamborghini Aventador and now another rapper has joined the bright super car brigade.

Flo Rida, a famous rapper from, you guessed it, Florida has debuted his Bugatti Veyron in a pink wrap.

Not that mr. Rida is following in the footsteps if ms. Minaj – he is known to wrap his Veyron in an array of different colours for different reasons. And, because it is October and breast cancer awareness month, Flo has wrapped his car in a beautiful pink colour complete with the breast cancer awareness ribbon on the hood.

Not many tough, hardcore rapper men will take the plunge and wrap their cars in a bright pink colour in support of a female cause. But Flo is obviously not bothered – and how sweet that makes him!

Good on you, Flo Rida! Us ladies definitely salute you!

Check out Flo’s pink Veyron in the gallery below:

BMW i3

More than a month ago we reported on BMW’s green, electric concept car, the i3.

Now, finally, the day has arrived that we get to show you real life photographs of the car, as it was shown off at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

The i3 marks a break through for the German car manufacturer, as it is their first electric car. It is estimated that the i3 will be able to travel approximately 80 – 100 miles, or 130 – 160km on electric power, before it would need a recharge.

The i3 is also a leader in innovative, ‘green’ car manufacturing. Most of its oddly shaped body is composed of lightweight composite materials. These include reinforced carbon fiber plastic, while the i3′s chassis is composed of aluminum and magnesium. It is the first mass-produced car with such attributes.

So, without further a do, here is the all new, 2014 BMW i3 – ready for action:

MB CONCEPT

With the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show underway, Mercedes-Benz took the stage to unveil their latest S-Class Coupe concept – and man, does it look good!

The new S-Class is expected to replace the existing CL Coupe. Although there are some similarities between the new concept and the existing one, Mercedes has made sure that the new Coupe is something you would want to want.

The S-Class Coupe Concept is expected to go on sale in the United States in 2015.

As far as differences go, the S-Class concept is approximately 3 centimeters shorter and 8 centimeters wider than the current CL Coupe.

It has an impressive 300 centimeter wheelbase, 500 centimeter length, 195 centimeter width and 140 centimeters height.

The door panels of the new concept car are made from aluminum to reduce the weight. As for the drive, it has the same rear-wheel drive proportions as the current S-Class Sedan and a beautiful diamond radiator grille, which, of course frames the iconic Mercedes star.

The S-Class concept is powerful! It features a biturbo V8 engine that produces 449 horsepower and 516 pounds-feet (or 699 newton meters) of torque.

Mercedes’ innovative ‘Intelligent Drive’ – which includes safety functions that allows the car to detect objects almost 50 meters in front of the car and then adjusts the stiffness of the suspension as the car is in motion – is obviously also included in the brand new concept.

All in all, the new Mercedes concept car looks set to be a winner!

New Ford Concept revealed – and it’s Fairytale like 29
Aug
Posted by Kelly Levinsohn in Automotive News, Concept car news, Ford, Popular on 08 29th, 2013

Ford

The new Ford concept car is almost like the perfect hero or Prince Charming in a fairytale.

The American company has revealed it’s latest MPV concept a few weeks ahead of it’s official debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September.

Ford’s new baby carries the S-Max name and is a testament to the next generation of the popular car of the same name that is sold outside of the United States.

The S-Max Concept features new styling details which will appear  on the Ford Motor Company models.

These include sleek, swept-back headlights, an indented lower spoiler and a high mounted grille.

The S-Max Concept is much more smooth and sleek in design – especially on the exterior. Sweeping character lines are key and extend to whole of the exterior.

The sweeping lines also run along the flanks – thus giving the impression of a car built for speed with a sleek, lengthy body.

In addition to the sleek lines and effortless class, the car also features stunning, sculptured shoulders – just like any beautiful car (or man) should have.

The lights also feature great LED elements.

On the inside, the Ford designers have decided that this car should be more ‘driver-focused’. Exceptional, high-quality materials have been used – some that you won’t necessarily expect from Ford.

The instrument panel is wrapped in soft leather as is the seats, with some carbon fibre on them too.

It is however, not only the design and look of the car that is impressive, the technologies for the concept are quite something too.

There is a wireless internet hotspot, a tablet docking station, a SYNC AppLink, which allows drivers to control their smartphone apps via voice activation and, just to show that this car could possibly be the perfect car (man), it also cares about you with it’s health and well-being system!

This health and wellbeing system features a heart rate monitoring seat, glucose monitoring systems and a call function; this will get you help from a medical practitioner. I mean, really?

Driving related technologies include an environment monitoring system, a parking assistant (once again, perfect for women), Car 2 Car communications technology and a collision warning system.

Did I mention the car is ‘green’ too? The power comes from a 1.5 liter EcoBoost, which utilizes turbocharging, variable valve timing and direct-injection technology to provide you with enough performance to run all your errands and still help you save money and the planet by remaining fuel efficient!

Yet, like any dream man, the S-Max Concept remains just that: a concept.

Ford has no plans to launch the eventual production version of this stunning car in the U.S.

Ford says that the aim of the concept is to showoff the wide scope of technologies and styling the company is preparing for for it’s future generation of vehicles.

So, in the end, Prince Charming is just a tease – but if fairytales do come true, this car will definitely be marriage material!

The Mercedes ‘Vision’ Golf Cart 23
Jul
Posted by Kelly Levinsohn in Automotive News, Concept car news, Green Auto, Popular on 07 23rd, 2013

Vision

Mercedes-Benz has come up with their rendition of a (very) futuristic looking new age golf cart.

This plug-in electric golf cart is electrically driven and powered by a solar panel charged battery. So it is not only a sleek, modernised version of a traditional golf cart, but a greener, eco-friendly option too.

The concept of this golf cart, being called ‘The Vision Golf Cart’ was developed by the Mercedes Advanced Design Centre in California. The design and the idea of the car is based on ideas that were submitted by golf and car fans for a competition. The winners would then be invited to the Open Championship.

The interior of this golf cart is definitely a far cry from today’s ‘simple’ golf carts. Firstly, both the ‘passenger’ and the ‘driver’ can drive the cart; there is a console mounted joystick in the center.

The cart also features a multimedia panel which includes a docking station for Apple products (iPad’s, iPod’s, iPhone’s). From this dock, various features can be controlled: the air-conditioning,  and the head-up display.

The head-up display truly looks like something straight out of a movie. It can be integrated into the windscreen to show the course layout and an updated leader board.

Gallery: A futuristic golf cart –

MB Vision 03

If you have missed a shot or gone a bit skew, the ‘force-button’ will enable you to warn other players if they are within a danger zone – instead of embarrassing yourself and yelling “FOUR!”

Other features, that are typically Mercedes, include heated, electronically adjustable seats, optional click-in lightweight doors, a retractable lightning rod and cup holders that will keep your drinks either hot or cold.

This space-age golf cart might make you feel like you’re going for a game on Mars, but it sure makes the (sometimes tedious) game a whole lot smarter!

BMW i3 to be Unveiled July 29th 3

BMW i3

BMW will officially unveil their final production version of the all electric i3 at the end of the month.

The i3 is the first car from the German manufacturer’s all electric range. The next car in BMW’s electric i-range, will be the i8 supercar, which will debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September.

BMW’s space-like i3 will make it’s debut on July 29th. Ironically enough, this is two years to the day since the i3 Concept was unveiled.

The i3 will be offered with a 168hp, all electric powertrain, as well as plug-in range-extender which is called the REx.

In anticipation of the unveiling of the ‘greener’  electric BMW, the company has launched a teaser video as part of it’s marketing campaign and, of course, to get people talking about the car.

The video features people posing for pictures and jumping up and down – then it asks the viewer to learn a new German word: “Vorfreude” which means ‘anticipation’.

The teaser seems a bit strange, with no mention or image of the car until the end of the video, when we see a simple silhouette of the i3. It ends with the tag line “Born Electric” – which is cute. And appropriate.

Gallery: The all new, all electric BMW i3 –

From the silhouette, we can imagine that the production ready version of the i3 will probably be identical to it’s concept.

Although the teaser video is odd and the car looks a little like a Martian’s car, people are still excited about BMW’s latest creation. And if it helps to protect the planet, who are we to complain?

See for yourself: You can make up your own mind about the rather interesting teaser video –

The Lamborghini Gallardo Replacement Concept to Premier in Frankfurt 18

2013-Lamborghini-Gallardo

Lamborghini  is planning to give the world a taste of what’s to come of the impending replacement for their Gallardo model at this year’s Frankfurt Auto Show.

According to reports, the Lamborghini team will have a concept car in Frankfurt that will preview a 2015 replacement for the current Gallardo.

The word on the street is that the Italian supercar maker is still considering “Cabrera” as the Gallardo-successor’s name.

The long anticipated, new Lamborghini will be based on the same platform as the second-generation Audi R-8. This is instead of the more exotic underpinnings of the Aventador.

This means that the “Cabrera” will feature a modular spaceframe, aluminum and carbon fiber construction and a reduction in curb weight – the target is less than 3,300 pounds. Even with the loss of weight, the next Gallardo will be slightly longer than the current car, but about the same height and width.

Have a look at the current, 2013 Gallardo in the gallery below:

This sleek Lamborghini will draw power from an updated version of the current 5.2-liter V10, which should be good for more than 600 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. It is also believed that the new Gallardo will feature a six-speed manual transmission as well as a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. This will replace the existing six-speed E-gear automated manual on the current Gallardo.

We can’t wait to see the “Cabrera” in action!

The 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show runs from 10 – 22 September.

Peugeot to publicly demonstrate Onyx concept car at Goodwood Festival 3

001-peugeot-onyx-concept

Peugeot is planning to show off their latest concept car, the Onyx, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England this July.

The Onyx was first unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September of 2012, but it’s appearance at the Goodwood festival will be it’s very first public demonstration.

The Onyx is a diesel-hybrid car, with a carbon fibre shell and wings and doors that are made from pure copper. The copper wings and doors attribute to the futuristic look of this concept car.

The idea is that the copper is polished to a mirror finish and then left unprotected. This means that the copper will change in colour as it begins to oxidize.

It also features a 3.7 liter V8 diesel engine which will deliver 600 horsepower. It is also teamed with a electric motor which brings an extra 80 horsepower to the table. You can probably calculate the speed and power of this Peugeot!

The Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place between 11 and 14 July in West Sussex, England.
