Chevy’s 2019 Silverado Brings The Heat To Full-Size Truck Segment 16
Jan
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in Chevrolet, Chevrolet Silverado, Galleries, new cars, Trucks on 01 16th, 2018

Chevrolet’s 2019 Silverado pickup was unveiled just in time to take on the new-gen RAM 1500 and Ford’s updated F-150 bestseller.

This year’s Detroit Auto Show is packed full of iconic nameplates that wouldn’t even frown when faced with any sort of rough terrain. From the previously-mentioned pickup trucks, all the way to the new G-Wagen, running out of tarmac shouldn’t be a problem.

Compared to its predecessor, the 2019 Silverado is less conservative and features stronger character lines. For a more rugged look, go for the LT Trailboss which adds the suspension lift, locking rear diff and skid plates.

Unlike the exterior, the cabin of the all-new Silverado isn’t too different than it was before, influenced strongly by customer feedback, while packing an extra three inches of rear leg room for crew-cab models.

Power unit choices will include new 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8 options, as well as a 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel, where the latter could end up to be the best performing diesel in the segment, according to GM exec, Mark Reuss. This could mean that it will feature higher power and torque numbers than Ford’s new 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel V6, rated at 250 horses and 440 lb ft (596 Nm).

Just like Ford’s diesel, the Silverado’s will also be mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

In total, Chevrolet will offer eight different 2019 Silverado versions, plus a wide range of engine and transmission combinations in hopes of helping customers find their ideal pickup.

Chevrolet Lets Detroit Auto Show Goers Experience Cars In 4D Virtual Reality 15
Jan

Kia isn’t the only automaker bringing a 4D experience to the North American International Auto Show as Chevrolet has unveiled a new virtual reality display which gives attendees a behind-the-scenes look at how the company tests its vehicles.

Dubbed the Chevrolet Virtual Dynamics Lab, the experience puts users in the front passenger seat of various vehicles while they are being tested on different surfaces including gravel roads and a rock climbing course. The virtual reality headsets provide users with a 360-degree view of their surroundings and the experience apparently features the Equinox and Colorado ZR2.

Speaking of testing, Chevrolet says the 2019 Silverado will be subjected to at least seven million miles (11.2 million km) of testing and validation before the company ever delivers the first truck. Chevrolet also noted they have test chambers which are capable of simulating extreme environments including temperatures from -40° to 130° Fahrenheit as well as wind speeds ranging from 0 to 100 mph (0-161 km/h).

According to GM North America president Alan Batey, “Chevrolet is committed to delivering high-quality, durable vehicles able to withstand some of the harshest weather conditions and most unique driving situations people encounter today.” He went to say this will be shown to visitors by immersing them in their “rigorous testing processes” so they “better understand the capability built into our lineup of vehicles.”

Buy This NASCAR Racing Truck, Drive It On Public Streets 14
Jan
Posted by Carscoops Staff in auction, Chevrolet Silverado, Motorsport, Nascar, racing, Trucks on 01 14th, 2018

See this truck? Looks like something you might have seen a dozen years ago in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (now title-sponsored by Camping World), right?

Well your eyes do not deceive you. Only this one isn’t limited to the super-speedway. It’s been converted to run on public streets, and it can be yours – if you place the winning bid.

The Chevrolet Silverado racing truck was converted by Magic Customs of Brook Park, Ohio, which fitted it with equipment like a glass windshield, wipers, mirrors, horn, brake lights, and a passenger seat.

Most everything else is pretty much as you’d find it on the version that Darrell Waltrip fielded in 2005, right down to the #17 Tide/Downy racing livery. (Or at least it would be if Waltrip hadn’t switched to Toyota for the previous season.)

Since its conversion, the truck’s been driven all of 550 miles in show events. But if you’re brave (and lucky) enough, you could take it home from Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale this Friday and drive it as much as you like… or dare.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado Unveiled, Drops 450 Pounds And Gains A Diesel Engine 14
Jan
Posted by Michael Gauthier in Chevrolet, Chevrolet Silverado, Detroit-Auto-Show, new cars on 01 14th, 2018

The Chevrolet Silverado is one of the most important vehicles that General Motors makes so it comes as little surprise the company decided to unveil the truck at the North American International Auto Show.

Set to battle the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500, the 2019 Silverado eschews the conservative styling of its predecessor for a bolder design that helps the truck to truly stand out. The front end is fairly evolutionary but bigger changes occur further back as model adopts new bodywork which features gentle creases and strong character lines.

Eight different variants will be available including the new Silverado LT Trailboss. The off-road focused model builds the Z71 package and includes a two-inch suspension lift, a locking rear differential, and skid plates. The truck also boasts Rancho shocks and 18-inch alloy wheels and Goodyear Duratrac off-road tires.

The Silverado is 1.6 inches (41 mm) longer than its predecessor and rides on a wheelbase that has grown by up to 3.9 inches (100 mm). Despite this, the truck’s weight has been cut by up to 450 pounds (204 kg) due to the use of lightweight materials such as aluminum. The latter material is used on doors, hood and tailgate and this helps to truck’s body to weigh 88 pounds (40 kg) less than before.

The weight saving extends to the Silverado’s fully boxed steel frame which is also 88 pounds (40 kg) lighter than its predecessor despite boasting a 10 percent increase in torsional rigidity. Other weight savings come from the suspension which features front forged-aluminum upper control arms and a live-axle rear suspension which uses carbon-composite second-stage springs on LT variants.

The 2019 Silverado will be available with six different engine and transmission combinations. Chevrolet was coy on specifics but confirmed choices will include a new 5.3- and 6.2-liter V8 as well as 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel inline-six. During the press conference, GM executive vice president Mark Reuss said “I’m not going to go into the numbers today, but some of our competition have given numbers on their diesels, and let’s just say I’m confident that we’ll have the best performing diesel in this segment.” That is a clear shot at Ford which recently released its specifications for the diesel-powered F-150.

On the transmission side of the equation, GM confirmed the 3.0-liter diesel and 6.2-liter V8 petrol engine will come with an all-new 10-speed automatic transmission as well as a start/stop system. The V8’s will also have a Dynamic Fuel Management system which can deactivate up to seven-cylinders to optimize fuel efficiency.

Frankencar Alert: Chevy Camaro Puts On A Silverado Grille 10

Posted by Sergiu Tudose in Chevrolet, Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Silverado, Offbeat News, tuning on 01 10th, 2018

By now, we’re used to see all kinds of mods, but this one really caught us by surprise, as it concerns a third-gen Camaro that’s been fitted with the grille of a Silverado.

Apparently, someone thought that he should ditch that pointy front end in favor of a chrome grille borrowed from Chevy’s pickup truck, and so this weird… well, thing was born.

It’s no surprise that we found this image on Reddit’s popular Shi**y Car Mods thread, because that’s where most controversial or downright horrible automotive modifications go to get mocked.

With this one, while we have definitely seen worse, it had us lost for words. Are we to assume the headlights are hidden behind the grille or that it doesn’t have any at all?

Anyhow, as Frankecars go, this Camaro/Silverado conjunction just doesn’t make any sense.

New Chevy Silverado 4500HD And 5500HD Coming To 2018 Truck Show 8
Jan
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in Chevrolet, Chevrolet Silverado, diesel, GM, new cars, Trucks on 01 8th, 2018

Chevrolet will unveil its all-new Silverado Class 4 and 5 chassis cab trucks in Indianapolis at the 2018 Work Truck Show, taking place March 6-9.

The two trucks will be available as regular as well as crew cab models, with both 2WD and 4WD capability, plus a wide range of GVWRs and wheelbases. They are expected to go into production in late 2018.

Doing the pulling will be the pairing of Duramax diesel power with the Allison transmission, while creature comforts such as OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi will aid connectivity.

“The Silverado 4500HD/5500HD trucks are the flagship of our full-line commercial truck portfolio and we’ve designed them to be among the best in the industry in maneuverability, serviceability, visibility, quietness and comfort, diesel fuel economy and more,” said GM Fleet VP, Ed Peper.

Since additional technical specs will only be made available in March, the least we can do for now is shine more light on the teaser image, revealing a very imposing front end.

You Could Say This Chevy Silverado Owner Has A Thing For Chrome And Spoilers 23
Dec
Posted by Brad Anderson in Chevrolet, Chevrolet Silverado, Offbeat News, tuning on 12 23rd, 2017

While tuning might actually improve the looks of a car, or in our case a pickup, sometimes they leave a lot to be desired. The owner of this Chevrolet Silverado 1500, for one, definitely went to town when it comes to personalizing his ride, but the end result is far from commendable.

This modified pickup was recently shared on Reddit, and it’s difficult to know where to start discussing it.

Immediately, your eyes will probably be drawn to the chrome stickers that cover the majority of the vehicle’s sides, including its A-, B-, and C-pillars. Additionally, the owner has decided to install a set of chrome side steps and chrome wheels to complete the mirror finish.

But things don’t stop here, as at the rear, we count no less than at least six different spoilers lifted off other cars and lumped together on the tailgate. What’s more, there’s even a wing mounted to the roof.

To say this Silverado is an ode overkill would be an understatement – but that’s just us; what do you think about it, is this Silverado a hit or a miss?

2019 Chevrolet Silverado Unveiled Ahead Of Detroit Debut 16

Posted by Michael Gauthier in Chevrolet, Chevrolet Silverado, Detroit-Auto-Show, featured, new cars on 12 16th, 2017

Chevrolet has unveiled the all-new 2019 Silverado ahead of its official debut at the North American International Auto Show.

Shown in the truck’s new Trailboss trim, the images reveal the 2019 Silverado has an evolutionary front fascia with a squared off appearance which hints at its rugged capabilities.

Chevrolet is keeping details under wraps but we can see the truck features LED headlights, a massive grille, and distinctive LED daytime running lights. Moving further back, the Silverado eschews the budging fenders flares of its predecessor for new bodywork which incorporates gentle creases and strong character lines.

The styling changes continue out back as the Silverado adopts a new tailgate which has a massive “Chevrolet” lettering. Other notable changes include new tailgate lights, a dual exhaust system, and a rear bumper with integrated steps on the sides.

We can expect to learn more about the truck next month but it appears the Trailboss variant will feature black accents on the grille, bumpers, and wheels. The model is also slated to have an assortment of off-road focused goodies including a two-inch suspension lift.

Engine options also remain unconfirmed but Chevrolet says the redesigned model uses high-tensile-strength steel and higher-grade alloy materials in its construction. Thanks to these changes, the truck promises to be lighter and more rigid than its predecessor.

Detroit Auto Show Is Shaping Up To Be Truckapalooza, New Ford Ranger Could Bow Too 15

Posted by Michael Gauthier in Chevrolet, Chevrolet Silverado, Detroit-Auto-Show, Ford, ford ranger, GMC Sierra, Hyundai Veloster, Mercedes G-Class, RAM, Reports, Toyota Avalon, VW, VW Jetta on 12 15th, 2017

The North American International Auto Show kicks off on January 14th and a handful of automakers have already announced plans to stage some major introductions in the Motor City.

At least seven models have already been confirmed for the show and they include the Ram 1500, Toyota Avalon, and Volkswagen Jetta. We will also get a glimpse at the all-new Hyundai Veloster as well as the Lexus LF-1 Limitless concept which could preview a flagship crossover. Mercedes will also have a strong showing as the company will unveil the CLS53 and the luxurious new G-Class.

Of course, there will also be a handful of other models making their debut in Detroit and Autoweek is reporting we can expect an onslaught of pickups. We’ve already mentioned the Ram 1500 and it will reportedly be joined by the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. If three trucks isn’t enough, you’ll be happy to know Ford could also to showcase the new Ranger.

On the performance front, there have been constant rumors that Chevrolet will unveil the mid-engine Corvette in Motown. That remains uncertain and so do rumors that Ford will showcase either the Mustang Bullitt or Shelby GT500.

Speaking of uncertainties, Infiniti has hinted it could unveil a flagship concept at the show but little is known about it at this point.

New Chevrolet Silverado And GMC Sierra Slated To Offer Carbon Fiber Beds 7
Dec
Posted by Michael Gauthier in Chevrolet, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC, GMC Sierra, Reports on 12 7th, 2017

General Motors mocked Ford for using aluminum beds in the F-150 and that struck many people as a surprise considering the redesigned Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra were expected to go the same route.

However, Autonews and The Wall Street Journal are reporting the upcoming trucks will instead use a mix of lightweight materials including aluminum and carbon fiber. Nothing is official but speculation suggests the trucks may use carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic which has company has been developing since 2011.

Little is known about the company’s plan but the WSJ says the mixed material bed will be offered within the next two years. The report also claims the bed would to limited to higher-end versions of the pickups which presumably means we could see it on the next GMC Sierra Denali. Over time, the beds could eventually become available on more mainstream models.

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra are expected to be unveiled shortly and this points to a debut at the North American International Auto Show. If that’s the case, the models will be shown alongside the 2019 Ram 1500 which is expected to be lighter and more efficient that its predecessor.

GM And HSV Announce Camaro SS And Silverado HD Heading To Australia Next Year 7
Dec
Posted by Michael Gauthier in Australia, Chevrolet, Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Colorado, Chevrolet Silverado, GM, HSV on 12 7th, 2017

General Motors and Holden Special Vehicles have reached an agreement which will ensure the latter company remains active following the death of the rear-wheel drive Holden Commodore.

Described as a “pivotal moment” in HSV’s history, the agreement paves the way for an assortment of new vehicles to come to Australia. There will be two “product streams” and the first will consist of the familiar vehicle enhancement program that is offered on existing Holden vehicles.

An example of this is the new HSV SportsCat which is based on the Holden Colorado. The model features an all-new front fascia with a revised grille, tow hooks, and LED fog lights. Other notable features include new fender flares, a retuned suspension, and an increased ride height.

Power is provided by a 2.8-liter Duramax Turbo Diesel engine that produces up to 197 hp (147 kW) and 368 lb-ft (500Nm) of torque. It can be connected to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.

The second product stream is more exciting as it will see HSV launch all-new vehicles in Australia. These include the Chevrolet Camaro and Silverado HD which will retain their bow-tie badging.

On the Silverado side, HSV will offer 4×4 Crew Cab variants of the 2500HD WT, 2500HD LTZ, 2500HD LTZ Midnight Edition, 2500HD LTZ Custom Sport Edition, and 3500HD LTZ. All of the models will come equipped with a 6.6-liter Duramax Turbo Diesel V8 engine that produces approximately 445 hp (332 kW) and 910 lb-ft (1,234 Nm) of torque. The engine will be paired a standard six-speed automatic transmission.

The Camaro, on the other hand, will arrive in 2018 in 2SS guise. The model will have a 6.2-liter V8 engine which produces up to 455 hp (340 kW) and 453 lb-ft (615 Nm) of torque. Unfortunately for performance fans, it will only be offered with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The model will come nicely equipped with HID headlights, a rear spoiler, and 20-inch alloy wheels with Goodyear Eagle tires. The Camaro also has heated / ventilated leather sport seats, a dual-zone automatic climate control system, and a 9-speaker Bose audio system.

According to HSV Managing Director Tim Jackson, “This marks a whole new era for HSV and Holden and I hope our customers are as excited as we are. HSV is moving beyond simply ‘hotting up’ existing models, and customers will see two product streams from HSV over the next few years.”

His sentiments were echoed by Holden Managing Director Mark Bernhard who remarked, “Today is a great day for Holden and HSV, but even more importantly, for our customers”.

Custom Dually Chevy Camaro Wants Not For Traction, Subtlety 20
Nov
Posted by Carscoops Staff in Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet Videos, Middle East, tuning, video on 11 20th, 2017

Chevy makes all kinds of vehicles – among them, at opposite ends of the spectrum, work-a-day pickup trucks like the Silverado and performance models like the Camaro. Seldom do the two meet, but that’s just what we appear to have here.

Shared with the world via Reddit and UAE Muscle is what appears to be a custom Camaro with the dual rear axle from a Silverado HD, spotted in the United Arab Emirates.

The wheels are enclosed in custom bodywork, but those don’t appear to be the only modifications. The whole thing is apparently dropped to the ground, fitted with Lambo-style scissor doors, some weird Giger-esque engine cover, a two-tone brown and white paintjob, an interior bathed in LEDs, and more tribal tattoos than a Pamela Anderson centerfold.

Subtle it is not, and we doubt the mods give it much of a performance edge. And those standard side mirrors aren’t going to show much beyond the rear haunches. But however much power it is packing, it doesn’t look like it’ll have much trouble getting it down to the tarmac.

World Series MVP George Springer Gets A Chevy Silverado Centennial Edition 5
Nov
Posted by Carscoops Staff in celebrities, Chevrolet, Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet Videos, video on 11 5th, 2017

It could hardly get any better, we’d imagine, for any baseball player than winning the World Series. Being named the most valuable player in the process could only make it that much better. But as if none of that were enough already, this year’s MVP also got to go home with a brand-new truck.

Not just any truck, either, but the new Chevrolet Silverado Centennial Edition, which upgrades on the LTZ Z71 Crew Cab with special color, trim, and badges in celebration of Chevy’s hundred years in the truck business.

The pickup was presented by Chevy VP Brian Sweeney to George Springer, the Houston Astros centerfielder who was named the 2017 Willie Mays World Series Most Valuable Player – the award having been renamed for the Hall of Famer earlier this year. Springer went 11-for-29 in the series this year, hitting five home runs to tie the record set by Reggie Jackson in 1977 and again by Chase Utley in 2009.

Each year, Chevy awards the MVPs of both the World Series and MLB All-Star game with new cars or trucks to take home along with their trophies and rings. The automaker revealed the Centennial Editions of both the Silverado and the smaller Colorado barely over a month ago in the same state of Texas that that Springer’s Astros call home, though the game was won away this year at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
