Compilation of Car Scenes in Famous Films 22
Posted by Kelly Levinsohn in cars, Movies, Off Topic, Popular, Videos on 08 22nd, 2013

Have you ever watched a film that did not feature a car somewhere, somehow? Mmm. It’s quite difficult to think of any!

Unless it is a period film, a fantasy film or something pre-historic, most modern day films feature a car or automobile somewhere in some scene.

Supercut, the YouTube channel that mashes everything together, has released a two minute compilation clip of scenes from movies that feature the super popular ‘widescreen shot’ through the windshield of a car.

This shot, as you will see, is a wide angled shot of people driving in a car, and you, the viewer see them through the windshield. I’m sure you can think of some scenes like that already!

The clip features scenes from more than 30 famous films – all using the same ‘widescreen-through-the-windshield’ shot.

Think you can name all the films these scenes are from? Go on over to Supercut’s YouTube page to see a full list of all the films used to create this mashup, and check your answers.

Just another way of showing the importance of cars in pop culture, films and, of course, everyday lives.

Posted by Kelly Levinsohn in Automotive News, cars, Popular, south-africa on 08 16th, 2013

If you were wondering which car hiring company to use in South Africa, the Avis is your answer.

The popular car hiring company has won the Business to Business Award in the Car Hire category for the 10th year in a row.

The award is yet another testament to Avis’ recognizable brand and the trustworthiness of their service.

The official press release form Avis reads:

Avis continues to shine in the Sunday Times Top Brands 2013 Awards, taking home the Business to Business award in the Car Hire Category for the 10th consecutive year.  Avis was also nominated in the B2B Company Most Spontaneously Aware Category – a category where respondents were asked which car rental companies they knew or had heard of, ascertaining which brands are at the top of consumers’ minds. This was done to tie up with groundbreaking research done by Jannie Hofmeyer from TNS, which states that the strongest brands are the ones that first pop into consumers’ minds when thinking about a specific purchase.

This has been accomplished amidst an industry characterised by increasing competitiveness in the marketplace and continually shifting customer needs.

This honour is a direct result of the commitment and on-going dedication from Avis to continually give its customers a memorable customer experience. The Avis vision is to exceed customers’ expectations at every interface. “We believe it is every customer’s right to receive excellent service and our brand promise of ‘We Try Harder’, lives through the DNA of the organisation and in all our Brand Ambassadors,” says Avis Chief Executive Keith Rankin.

The Top Brands Award is one of the most notable brand awards in the country. Recipients are chosen by the customer, with research methodology conducted by TNS Research Surveys amongst 3500 consumers in metro and non-metro areas. A separate survey is also conducted amongst 400 business leaders with respect to categories relating to business needs and services

“It is an honour to be awarded in the Business to Business Car Hire Category and we thank each and every one of our customers and employees that have made this possible”, says Rankin. “We will continue to try harder in order to give our customers the service that they have been accustomed to and also to aspire to greater customer service heights in the future.”

Avis has recently recorded its highest ever Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) score from market researchers MRM Support, with a record high 91.8. This score increase can be attributed to Avis’ unquestionable dedication to customer service in all facets of its operations. Measuring CSI for a business like Avis brings together the combined product of all interaction between Avis and its customers.

Way to go, Avis!

09_volvo_xc60_sideFinally, another neat safety tool that is constantly being seen in a lot of the newest cars I the rollover prevention/mitigation; which basically ensures that you car is extremely stable and that it is going to keep you safe.  If you take a corner too fast or swerve over too fast, have you ever felt like your car is going to tip over?

This is especially apparent in a lot of cars that are top heavy.  Well, this system actually senses a potential rollover situation and will apply the brakes and modulate throttle as needed in order to help make maintain control of your car.

This technology seems to be popping up everywhere from GM to Ford all the way to Volvo and the one common goal is to ensure that your car does not flip over!

edmunds.6.500Now that we have talked a little bit about the adaptive cruise control, let’s move onto another technology that is actually exploding onto the market and that is the blind-spot detection.  One reason this is such a huge deal because many people get into car accidents because they do not check their blind spot.

This tool actually alerts you whenever you are trying to merge over and someone is in your blind spot.  Something will either flash in your mirror or there will be a small beeping alarm that will let you know.

Usually, this tool responds whenever you put on your turn signal, so that is kind of a trigger.

volvo-s60-concept-interior1The technology that is in the world in general is absolutely incredible.  Never did I think that I would see things the size of a match box hold all sorts of private information pulled off of a computer that is as thin as a notebook.  The technology that has been passed on from computers has slowly made its way on over to the car market and nowadays, cars have some of the best technology in the world.

That is what we are going to explore in the next few blogs, exactly what technology is out there that can truly keep you safe and sound whenever you are driving.  Do you use cruise control?  I do – all of the time and I have to say that the newest cruise control feature that is popping up on a lot of cars is fantastic!

It actually makes sure that you stay a safe distance away from the car in front of you, that way you do not end up in a car accident.
