The High Gear Mustang Concept, designed by Jennifer Seely

To show that women are as capable of designing and building cars as men, Ford teamed up with the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) to sponsor the inaugural SEMA Mustang Build Powered by Women. Three proposed designs were posted online, and fans got to vote for the concept they’d most like to see built.

In the end, a concept called High Gear, penned by Ford’s Jennifer Seely, won top honors. Seely drew her styling inspiration from categories as diverse as jewelry, couture clothing and architecture, and says the theme carries an international influence as well.

Based on a 2013 Mustang GT (which was donated to the project by Ford), the SEMA build will get a satin black paint scheme, accented by rose-gold wheels, mirror caps and exterior trim. Inside, more rose-gold accents the cabin, which also sports leather trim and quilted black suede seats.

The Mustang will get engine, suspension, drivetrain and audio system upgrades as well, although details on these upgrades are lacking. High Gear will debut at this year’s SEMA show, and it will be auctioned on eBay afterward to raise money for the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund.
