Epic car battles only happen every once in a while, most times when we have a definitive winner. The new Koenigsegg Agera R, among other hypercars, have attempted to dethrone the Bugatti Veyron of its coveted high-speed titles. Of course a drag race, what you are about see below, is no end-all for any vehicle as it comes down to the driver, conditions, ect. ect. ect. Having said that, we can clearly see one vehicle winning this race but the last race we are not so sure of. Of course we are Veyron fan-boys, who isn’t? The Agera R ripping up the Veyron would be a surprise to us, as it has won over our hearts in the past. Both amazing vehicles!!! You check it out for yourself and chime in below in the comments area. Enjoy!

Everyone loves publicity and we really don’t blame them for seeking fame if you have what it takes to truly shine your light on the world. Lately, those who were in the position to dethrone the Veyron of its top speed world record have gone about it based on technicalities (the Veyron’s so-called speed limiter). Whether they are sore losers or just wanted another 5 minutes of fame, the Bugatti Veyron is here to keep claim of its throne as it re-claims the world record once again, with the top down. Here is the video where Bugatti claims actions speak louder than words claiming a drop-top top speed of 408.84 km/h (254.04 mph).

The end of the road for the Bugatti Veyron may be approaching just as fast as it does when the top-speed exotic shatters the top speed world record on a track (254.04 mph). Before all good things come to an end, they like to shine brightly as the Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse does making a private appearance in China at the Shanghai Motor Show. Here are a few images capturing the fine details of the Bugatti Veyron Grans Sport Vitesse in its full multi-million-dollar glory.

Jay Leno Drives The Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse: Video 15

The Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse visits Jay Leno’s Garage

Though it’s hard to believe, the Bugatti Veyron has been on the market since 2005. The original Veyron 16.4 ceased production in 2011, but the car is still being built in Grand Sport convertible form. The highest-performance version of the Veyron currently available is the Grand Sport Vitesse, which is essentially a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport with a removable roof panel for open air motoring.

While base (if such a word can be used in association with the Veyron) Grand Sport models get a W-16 engine good for 1,000 horsepower, Vitesse variants make an additional 200 horsepower. To achieve this 20-percent gain, Vitesse models get larger turbos and four fuel pumps, ensuring that the 8.0-liter engine never goes hungry. Vitesse models also get a body crafted entirely from carbon fiber, instead of the carbon fiber and aluminum construction used on conventional Grand Sport models.

The result is a car that drives substantially lighter than its 4,400 pound weight. As Leno quips in the video, the Grand Sport Vitesse provides “teleportation, not acceleration,” and given the $2,000,000 sticker price we’d certainly hope so. For the lucky few who can afford to buy and maintain a Veyron, no other automobile on the planet is as technologically advanced or as versatile.

We found it ironic that even Jay Leno, who could probably write a check for a Grand Sport Vitesse if he were so inclined, needed adult supervision for the road test. Bugatti sent its North American test driver, two-time Rolex 24 at Daytona winner Butch Leitzinger, along for the video shoot. Maybe it was a requirement from Bugatti’s insurer, but we’re pretty sure we could trust Leno with the keys to any vehicle we could name.

Bugatti Shows Off The 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse: Video 11

Bugatti’s latest model of Veyron is the open-air 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse, which packs 1,200 horsepower and 1,106 pound feet of torque. That’s enough to get the roadster from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2.6 seconds, on its way to an electronically limited top speed of 233 miles per hour.

Like all Bugattis, production is limited and pricing is enough to make Bill Gates wince. The custom-painted Grand Sport Vitesse shown at Pebble Beach, for example, carried a sticker price of 1.74 million euros, or roughly $2.23 million. If you could get zero percent financing for 60 months, that translates a monthly car payment of $37,167, which doesn’t include the similarly high cost of maintenance.

Bugatti recently sponsored a press drive in the new Grand Sport Vitesse for “select” U.S. media, which oddly didn’t include us (in fact, we know a lot of people in the industry, and can’t name a single invitee). The result was this video, filmed north of New York City on the winding roads of Westchester County. Enjoy.

Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse Top-Down 200 MPH Fun: Video 22

200mph with an open top? No problem. That is what you would say if you were the fortunate owner of the new Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse. Road & Track set out to Spain to test the 1200 horsepower Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse at a high-speed test track with the top down as shown in the short video clip below. Enjoy!

Bugatti’s Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse Up Close And Personal: Video 12

Consider this: with 1.200 horsepower and over 1,100 pound-feet of torque, the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse may well be the world’s fastest hair dryer. It will sprint from 0-62 mph in just 2.6 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 255 miles per hour. If the weather’s good, the targa-style roof panel can be removed for open-air motoring, although there’s no place to carry it on board the car. If there’s a chance of rain, the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse works just fine as a coupe.

While Bugatti hasn’t officially announced U.S. sales of the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, those with sufficient interest and sufficient funds will likely find a way to obtain one. In Europe, the asking price is around two million euros, which translates to $2.6 million. You won’t see very many of these on the road, so this Bugatti-produced video may be the best chance you’ll have to see the car up close and personal.
