Kia Names New RWD K9 Flagship Sedan ‘Quoris’ 19
Posted by Malcolm Hogan in Automotive, Kia, Kia K9, Kia Quoris, News on 07 19th, 2012

I am all for being bold with new car designs and even sometimes I commend automakers for giving some of their flagship vehicles a prestigious name. In the case of Kia, to roll out their new rear-wheel-drive flagship sedan to other markets, leaves us a little unsettled about the selection of the name ‘Quoris’.

The name Quoris, according to the Kia press release posted below, is derived from the English words ‘core’ and ‘quality’. Kia has already made an excellent name for themselves here in America with some of their latest vehicles. I am just a bit skeptical of the name given to their new luxury sedan. Quoris is not even a word that Google recognizes, let alone something that the average American would instantly take a liking to. Are you sure you didn’t mean “Query”, something that a lot of folks will have when they ponder over Quoris?

Okay, I get the idea that Kia’s Executive Vice President and COO of the International Business Division, Tomas Oh, said “Our decision to give this striking new sedan an unconventional name means it will stand out even further from the established crowd.” That is all great, but sometimes standing out in the crowd is not always a good thing when you need an explanation as to what the name really means and how to pronounce it.

Kia has not stated any definite plans to roll the Quoris out in the states as of yet. The Quoris, or what debuted as the Kia K9 in Korea earlier this year, shares its underpinnings with the Hyundai Genesis Sedan. Currently the K9 in Korean markets is offered with a 286 horsepower 3.8-liter V6 or a 329 horsepower 3.8-liter GDI direct-injection V6 engine, either mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Of course using the name K9 is simply out of the question if they do bring the vehicle here. I am not too sure Quoris is much better, only it has no association with dogs. That is a step in the right direction I guess.

Kia Takes Wraps off of new (K9) KH Concept Flagship RWD Luxury Sedan 28
Posted by Malcolm Hogan in Automotive, Kia, Kia K9, Kia KH, News on 02 28th, 2012

In the realm of automotive game changers and earth shakers, Kia has received their official membership with the introduction of their all-new Kia flashship sedan (code named K9 and KH). Following several leaked sketches and teaser images, Kia has taken the wraps off of what will launch the Korean car brand into the cutthroat large Luxury sedan segment.

The new Kia luxury sedan, being Kia’s very first rear-wheel-drive large sedan, gets a new level of features and technologies to offer extreme value over its competitors. Being that the large-sedan luxury market is filled with several prestigious automobiles with a long lineage; the new Kia sedan will have its work cut out for it when it comes to the initial perception.

Having its underpinnings shared with the Hyundai Genesis and Equus, the new Kia will have an excellent base to work off of. The big 5.0-liter V8 powerplant as well-as the BMW-reminiscent looks won’t hurt things either. An official name for the new Kia has yet to be determined. The name K9 has been mentioned in some areas of the world while KH was its official code name. Kia wants Facebook fans to help them think of a name. You can do so by heading over to the official Kia Facebook page and give them your name selection.

2013 Kia KH rear-wheel-drive Flagship Sedan Teased 13
Posted by Malcolm Hogan in Automotive, Kia, Kia K9, Kia KH, News on 02 13th, 2012

The Korean automaker Kia looks to enter the rear-wheel-drive luxury market with a new sedan code named KH. The KH will be Kia’s first rear-wheel-drive sedan when it goes on sale in the automaker’s domestic market during the first half of this year.

The 2013 KH is just a speculated entity as Kia released new teaser photos with minimal details. What we do know is the 2013 KH will be built off of the Hyundai Equus luxury sedan’s platform. That means the Kia KH (previously thought to be the Kia K9), or whatever its name will be once officially introduced, is likely to be powered by a V8 engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission as in the Equus.

Over the years Kia has really changed their image for the better. Kia undoubtedly has some excellent vehicles for the American market remaining competitive against American and Asian brands. Seeing their first rear-wheel-drive luxury sedan on the streets would only help improve the brands image.

So far no word on whether Kia will bring the KH luxury sedan to our side of the pond. Launch plans have been kept quiet as markets for the KH are evaluated. A Kia luxury sedan would not be much of a surprise knowing how Kia has operated in the past with a synergized but undercover relationship with Hyundai.
