In order to celebrate winning the World Touring Car Championship, Polestar is launching new special Volvo S60 and V60 World Champion Editions.

Polestar Cyan Racing won the FIA World Touring Car Championship in a Volvo S60 Polestar TC1 race car and Thed Björk became the first Swede to ever win a motor racing world title after securing the Driver’s Championship.

Now before you get excited about getting a proper hot Volvo, learn that the special World Champion Edition treatment will be available with every engine in the S60/V60 range, meaning the D4, D5, T5 and T6 models.

What Polestar did is bundle all the available enhancements from their Performance Parts programme into these World Champion Edition models, including a set of 19-inch light alloys wrapped in performance tires, a free-flow stainless steel exhaust system and sports air filter as well as upgraded dampers and springs.

Polestar’s “powertrain optimization” increases power by up to 10hp and 50Nm of torque across all versions, as well as claim to offer faster gearshifts and improved throttle response. Aesthetically the latest special S60/V60 models will differentiate themselves with Polestar-branded details inside and exterior features like a rear diffuser and rear spoiler.

“The engineers from Polestar and Cyan Racing have worked collaboratively on engineering developments for existing Polestar road cars for many years,” said Christian Samson, responsible for Product and Development at Polestar. “It’s therefore fitting that we celebrate the remarkable achievement of securing our maiden World Championship by adding more performance to the cars that have been instrumental this season.”

The new Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar Performance World Champion Editions are available now from any Polestar retailer globally.

Polestar Plans To Introduce Four Models In The Next Three Years 3
Dec
Posted by Carscoops Staff in Polestar, Reports on 12 3rd, 2017

Polestar is going at it full-steam – or with a full charge, we should say. Not only is it launching as a stand-alone brand, it’s also rethinking the ownership experience, but it’s launching a whole raft of new products – the scope of which we’re just beginning to see now.

According to Motor Trend, Volvo’s newly emancipated electric performance division is preparing to roll out not one, not two, but four models all within the next three years.

First up is the Polestar 1 we’ve already seen: a plug-in hybrid luxury performance coupe that looks like a sleeker, more futuristic version of the new Volvo S90. That’s set to launch by the end of next year.

Motor Trend reports that the Polestar 2 will arrive by the end of 2019 as an all-electric midsize sedan to take on the Tesla Model 3. After that, we’re told to expect the Polestar 3 to launch early in 2020 as an electric crossover, with an as-yet undisclosed Polestar 4 to follow later in 2020. Word has it that model could take the form of a convertible, likely closely based on the Polestar 1.

What of the Polestar-branded performance Volvo’s we’ve seen to date, you wonder? Those will continue, with performance packages offered straight from the Volvo factory (instead of as dealer-installed equipment) and the occasional full-on performance vehicle (like the S60/V60 Polestar) to pop up from time to time. But Polestar’s main focus will remain on its own dedicated line of electrified vehicles.

Just how we’ll acquire them is still a matter of discussion. The initial idea is to pursue a subscription model almost exclusively, but strategists will watch to see how the Care by Volvo model is adapted (to say nothing of rivals like Book by Cadillac, Porsche Passport, and Lincoln’s forthcoming pilot as well.)

This Is Where They’ll Build The New Polestar 1 Coupe 21

The Polestar brand may be essentially an offshoot of Volvo, but its vehicles won’t be produced along Volvo assembly lines. Instead parent company Geely is building a completely new production center, construction of which has now officially begun.

Situated in Chengdu, China, the new Polestar Production Centre is set to open in the middle of next year, tasked initially with fabricating the Polestar 1 – a 600-horsepower hybrid super-coupe. But the facility just be a factory.

It’ll also have a “customer experience” center like the one Volvo has in Gothenburg, and a test track on which customers will be invited to try out their new hybrid wheels.

“Following the successful launch of the new Polestar brand in October, construction of the new Polestar Production Centre is the next step in turning our plans into reality,” said Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath. “We are building a Production Centre that is a reflection of our brand. A facility that is modern, progressive, technically advanced and environmentally responsible. The Polestar Production Centre will be an embodiment of the Polestar brand.”

Designed by Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta, the facility is destined to be the most environmentally friendly in China, and one of the greenest in the world. Once production comes online, it’ll build as many as 500 vehicles each year, making it a rather low-volume production facility.

Polestar 1 Looks Wicked As A Race Car 3
Nov

The Polestar 1 won’t arrive in the hands of customers (or should we say subscribers) for a couple of years, but Aksyonov Nikita has already decided to render the coupe as a race car.

Immediately differentiating the car pictured from the production-spec Polestar 1 is the overhauled front fascia that incorporates a custom bumper which seamlessly joins to a pair of aggressively flared wheel arches.

Final modifications made to the Swedish two-door include racing wheels, slick tires and a large rear wing.

Polestar has made no comment on whether it intends on promoting its vehicles through motorsport. However, we’d love to see the car’s hybrid powertrain replaced by a simple naturally-aspirated V8 and the 1 competing in Australia’s Supercars championship.
