Ford F-150 Continues To Dominate The Sales Chart But The Surprise Winner Is The Dodge Grand Caravan 29

Mercedes is on track to become the best-selling luxury brand in the United States for the second year in a row but that’s not the only interesting sales competition as there are classic rivalries such as Camaro vs Mustang and F-150 vs Silverado.

USA Today compiled a list of the hottest segments and they found some pretty familiar winners. In the compact sedan category, the Civic is dominating the competition as Honda has sold 345,880 models through November which puts it far ahead of the second place Toyota Corolla and its 290,163 sales.

The mid-size sedan segment is the opposite as the Camry is outselling the Accord by nearly 43,000 units. Next year promises to be even more interesting as the redesigned Camry had an early head start against the all-new Accord.

The muscle car segment is always interesting and this year was surprising as Dodge Challenger sales dramatically increased thanks in part to the halo effect of the Challenger SRT Demon. This helped Dodge to move 60,029 Challengers which wasn’t far behind the 64,138 Camaros that Chevrolet was able to sell. Of course, the real winner is Ford which sold 74,152 Mustangs.

Talking about surprises, the minivan segment was won by the ancient Dodge Grand Caravan. Thanks to fleet and commercial sales, Dodge sold 118,573 Grand Caravans which put it ahead of the newer Chrysler Pacifica which came in second place with 107,130 sales through the first 11 months of the year.

The crossover segment is booming and the Toyota RAV4 was a huge hit with consumers as they bought 375,052 units so far this year. The Honda CR-V is close behind at 340,912 units but the remaining competition isn’t even close.

The mid-size pickup market has seen renewed interest thanks to entries such as the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Toyota Tacoma. However, the latter model is the winner as Toyota has sold 179,420 Tacomas so far.

Speaking of trucks, the Ford F-150 continues to dominate the competition as it’s outselling the Chevrolet Silverado by nearly 300,000 units. Even when you factor in the GMC Sierra, General Motors still trails Ford by almost 100,000 units.

CR-V Custom Concept Leads Honda’s Lineup For The 2018 Tokyo Salon 24

In just a couple of weeks the 2018 Tokyo Auto Salon will open its doors, and Honda has just revealed the vehicles that it will bring on the event.

Perhaps the most important of them will be the CR-V Custom Concept pictured above. Though Honda has only released the name and a sole image, our best guess is that we could be looking at a sportier version of the company’s compact crossover.

The CR-V won’t be the only concept on display, though – not by a long shot. It’ll be joined by the RS Custom Concept of the Jade minivan, while the Modulo X line will also be well represented by concept versions of the STEP WGN and S660 kei cars, and the Mugen division will show the Civic Type R-based RC 20 GT.

The new Jade RS production model will be showcased as well, alongside a Mugen-tuned Civic hatchback. Also on display will be the new NSX, Civic Type R, N-One RS, and Freed Modulo X, together with an array of racing models like the Dallara DW12 IndyCar, NSX GT3, Civic TCR, Super Formula single-seater, and Super GT-spec NSX GT – plus, of course, a number of Honda’s racing motorcycles.

Honda Unveils Diesel CR-V Race Car For Race Of Remembrance 10

Honda UK and Mission Motorsport created the world’s first ever CR-V diesel race car, set to compete in the Race of Remembrance at Anglesey circuit in Wales.

The team used a CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC AWD EX model as the foundation for this project, removing everything inside except for the dashboard, while adding a bespoke roll cage, racing seats and harnesses.

Dynamically, a special suspension was added, lowering the car’s center of gravity significantly. Other mods include large Brembo brakes (sourced from a Civic Type R), wider wheels from a Civic Sport, adjustable camber control arms and towing hooks.

Because the Race of Remembrance runs in the dark for 6 hours, an additional LED light bar was integrated into the grille, while bonnet and roof scoops were added to help with cooling during the 12 total hours that the car will be out on the track.

“This is a really unique project we are tremendously proud to be a part of,” said Phil Webb of Honda UK. “The team at Mission Motorsport have worked night and day getting the car ready to race while Syncho Motorsport have been on hand to offer advice. We can’t wait to see the CR-V out on track, a first for the model.”

The Race of Remembrance takes place this weekend on the 11th and 12th of November.
