Rocket Bunny Ford F-150 Raptor Is Wrong In All The Right Ways 10
Jan
Posted by Joel V. Patel in Ford, Ford F-150, Tokyo Auto Salon, tuning on 01 10th, 2018

The Ford F-150 Raptor is the Blue Oval’s most capable and rugged off-roader. Thanks to a bunch of high-performance parts there’s not much that can slow it down. Pandem rocketbunny tra-kyoto has another idea for the Raptor – a slammed, JDM-inspired take on the rugged pickup.

The company, which is known for taking both the mundane and already-incredible machines, like the Nissan GT-R, and turning them into unforgettable cars, has worked its magic on the F-150 Raptor.

The pickup, or the illustrations of it, features a prominent front spoiler, wider fenders, a lowering kit, and a chunkier set of Toyo Tires. The rear end of the vehicle looks like it goes untouched besides a larger set of exhaust outlets.

The styling won’t be for everyone, as the wide body kit and the slammed stance mean that the F-150 Raptor won’t be able to go trekking through the snow. Still, this is so far out there that we can’t help but love it.

The real pickup will be on display at the 2018 Tokyo Auto Salon, which begins on January 12. The modified F-150 Raptor will be on hand at the Toyo Tires stand at the auto show alongside some other rad vehicles – BJ Baldwin’s trophy truck and Ken Block’s Hoonicorn V2.

Unsurprisingly None Of The U.S.’ Best-Selling Vehicles Of 2017 Were Cars 9
Jan

Last year marked the end of a seven-year sales streak for the automotive industry, as sales dropped for the first time since 2010 and revealed another major trend that will scare enthusiasts – consumers are serious about choosing crossovers and SUVs over everything else.

USA Today gathered the top five best-selling new vehicles from 2017 and none of them were cars.

The Ford F-150 topped the list with the automaker selling a total of 896,764 units. That number is up 9.3 percent from last year and helped the pickup truck retain its nameplate of being the best-selling vehicle in the United States.

The Toyota RAV4 came in second place with Toyota managing to shift a total of 407,594 units of the crossover last year. Toyota managed to sell more units of the RAV4 than the Camry sedan, which was the second-best-selling sedan of 2017.

The Nissan Rogue trailed behind the RAV4 in third place. Nissan sold a total of 403,465 units of the Rogue, which represents an increase of 22.3 percent over 2016. The Rogue also outpaced the Altima (total units sold for the sedan were 254,996), proving that people just aren’t interested in sedans anymore.

The Audi Q5, which retains its title as being the most-popular vehicle in Audi’s lineup, came in fourth place with a total of 57,640 units sold. A recent redesign helped the Q5 increase its popularity with sales increasing 16.3 percent from 2016.

As the report points out, there was some question about whether consumers would purchase a vehicle with an American badge that was built in China The answer, clearly, is yes. The Buick Envision, managed to come in fifth place with 41,040 units of the SUV being sold last year. The Envision was Buick’s third best-selling vehicle for 2017.

If you haven’t done so already, say goodbye to cars, hatchbacks, wagons, and anything else that isn’t a crossover, SUV, or pickup truck, because the wildfire has spread.

Ford Details The Oily Bits On Its New Power Stroke Diesel F-150 8
Jan

Want a light duty, full-size pickup with a diesel? FCA has pretty much had that specific slice of the market cornered with the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, but now Ford’s getting in on the action.

First announced almost a year ago, the Blue Oval has now released full details on the sixth engine option to join the F-150 range: a new 3.0-liter Power Stroke V6, developed by the same team behind the Super Duty’s 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8.

Smaller though it may be, the F-150 Power Stroke diesel claims class-leading output and capacity: 250 horsepower, 440 lb-ft of torque, 11,400 pounds of towing capability, and 2,020 pounds of payload. Mated to a ten-speed automatic transmission, it’s targeted to return an EPA-estimated 30 miles per gallon on the highway.

“For every truck owner who wants strong fuel economy while they tow and haul, we offer a new 3.0-liter Power Stroke V6 engine that dreams are made of,” said Ford’s powertrain chief Dave Filipe. “The more you tow and the longer you haul, the more you’ll appreciate its class-leading towing and payload capacity and how efficient it is at the pump.”

To make the engine strong but light, Dearborn built the new Power Stroke V6 around the same compacted-graphite iron block construction and forged-steel crank used in the 2.7-liter EcoBoost. It also employed a variable-geometry turbocharger and common-rail fuel injection to combat turbo lag, giving it a nice flat torque curve: peak torque comes in at just 1,750 rpm and stays constant across the rev range.

Buyers will be able to spec the new diesel option on both 4×2 and 4×4 models, in Lariat, King Ranch, or Platinum trim levels, with SuperCrew or SuperCab configurations, and with 5.5- or 6.5-foot beds. Dealers will soon start taking orders for delivery in the spring.

NHTSA May Get Ford To Recall 1.4 Million Pickups And SUVs 3
Jan

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) may get Ford to widen a recall for vehicles with faulty transmissions.

In 2016, the car manufacturer recalled 153,000 vehicles as their automatic transmissions could unexpectedly shift into first gear. Vehicles impacted included select F-150, Expedition, Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Mustang models.

The Detroit Free Press reports that the NHTSA is now investigating whether the recall should have in fact included up to 1.4 million F-150s, Navigators, and Expeditions from the 2011, 2012, and 2013 model years.

According to the NHTSA, a number of owners have complained, stating that Ford’s repairs didn’t work.

Ford says it is cooperating with the investigation.

2018 Ford F-150 Makes A Strong Case For Continuous Segment Domination 2

Even though full-size pickup truck buyers have plenty of competent alternatives to choose from, the Ford F-150 has consistently led its segment when it comes to overall sales.

During this in-depth review, Kelley Blue Book’s Micah Muzio attempts to explain why the 2018 F-150 is worthy of its financial status and also why you should definitely consider it if you’re in the market for a large workhorse.

For starters, it has a spacious and highly functional cabin, boasting supportive and overall comfortable seats. Furthermore, there are plenty of storage spaces within the doors and the center console.

KBB goes as far as to call the F-150’s cabin a “great place to live and work,” and recommends you go for the Super Crew version if you priority is to carry people.

On the road, the F150 rides well, offering a solid braking feel, good visibility in all directions and even decent fuel economy – as long as you go for the 325 HP 2.7-liter EcoBoost version.

If you’re interested in looking elsewhere for your full-size pickup truck needs, know that rivals from Toyota, Nissan, Chevrolet, GMC and RAM are also exceptionally good at their job.

Hennessey VelociRaptor 6×6 Available To Order From $349,000 20
Dec
Posted by Brad Anderson in Ford F-150, Hennessey, Reports, Trucks, tuning on 12 20th, 2017

Production of the almighty Hennessey VelociRaptor 6×6 has just commenced with confirmation that the behemoth will set customers back a minimum of $349,000.

The Texas tuner has been working on the six-wheeled F-150 Raptor for well over a year now and alongside an additional axle, the vehicle’s twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 has been fettled to deliver 602 hp and 622 lb-ft of torque. These gains have been achieved through modified turbo wastegates, a new intake, intercooler, exhaust, and a retuned ECU. The result? A 0-60 mph (96 km/h) sprint of just 4.9 seconds.

To ensure that the VelociRaptor 6×6 is as capable as it looks off-road, Hennessey has ensured that all three axles can be locked, while also upgrading the suspension and installing 20-inch wheels with off-road tires. Due to a lack of portal axles like the $1 million Mercedes G63 AMG 6×6, the VelociRaptor doesn’t have mind-blowing ground clearance but even still, it should be able to tackle some pretty intense terrain.

Beyond the aforementioned upgrades, Hennessey has also fitted a bull bar, LED light bar on the roof, and new bumpers. For an additional $22,000, customers will also be able to opt for a Brembo brake package with six-piston calipers.

Just 50 examples are scheduled for production with each taking at least 11 months to build.

Wards Names Its Ten Best Engines Of 2018 15

Posted by Michael Gauthier in Chevrolet Bolt, Chrysler Pacifica, Ford, Ford F-150, Ford Mustang, honda, Honda Civic Type-R, Honda Clarity, Infiniti, infiniti q50, Jaguar, Jaguar-XF, Kia, Kia Stinger, Toyota Camry on 12 15th, 2017

Wards Auto has released its annual list of the 10 Best Engines for 2018.

After spending two months testing 32 different powertrains, the company’s editors selected the winners. Surprisingly, the winners were primarily from mainstream brands and the publication notes not a single German automaker made the list.

Ford came away with two wins as editors loved the twin-turbo 2.7-liter V6 in the F-150 as well as the 5.0-liter V8 engine that resides in the Mustang GT. Other winners include the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the Honda Civic Type R and the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 that powers the Infiniti Q50. Jaguar and Kia also appeared on the top 10 list for the first time thanks to the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the XF and the turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 in the Stinger.

Alternative powertrains had a strong showing as well as Wards honored the Chevrolet Bolt, Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, Honda Clarity, and Toyota Camry Hybrid. These models are a very diverse group as the cars have electric, plug-in hybrid, fuel-cell, and hybrid powertrains.

Performance models were largely absent from the list even though contenders included the Audi RS3 and S4. The sole diesel engine, the turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder in the Chevrolet Equinox, also failed to make the cut.

Ford Recalling Over 200,000 F-150s And Explorers With Loose Front Seats 4
Dec
Posted by Brad Anderson in Ford, Ford Explorer, Ford F-150, Recalls, Reports, SUV, Trucks on 12 4th, 2017

Ford has issued a recall for over 200,000 F-150s and Explorers due to loose front seats.

It is reported that the upper left-hand pivot bolt for the front power seat adjuster could have come loose or fallen out. If this has happened, the seat could move excessively in a crash, therefore increasing the risk of injury.

In total, there are 202,274 F-150 and Explorer models embroiled in the recall, 177,264 of which were sold in the United States, 22,620 in Canada, and 2,390 in Mexico. The affected vehicles were built between January 22 and April 19, 2016.

To resolve the issue, Ford will measure the torque of the power seat track upper pivot link bolt and if the bolt passes the inspection, dealers will simply remove and clean it, apply new threadlock, and reinstall the bolt.

Ford F-150 Raptor Takes A Dose Of Steroids From GeigerCars 28
Nov
Posted by Brad Anderson in Ford, Ford F-150, GeigerCars, Trucks, tuning on 11 28th, 2017

Well-known tuning company GeigerCars has decided to take a standard Ford F-150 Raptor and adorn it with a plethora of modifications to create what we have here; the Raptor EcoBoost HP520.

As is typical of most tuners, GeigerCars started its F-150 project by modifying the pickup’s 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine and injecting a shot of steroids, lifting power to a mighty 520 hp and 539 lb-ft of torque. These gains don’t come from lifting weights and eating protein by the pound and instead are the result of a new cold air intake, ECU remapping, and high-efficiency air cooler.

With work on the engine done, Geiger turned its attention to the Raptor’s suspension system, equipping it with a lift kit that increases the ride height by four inches. To make the most of this increased ground clearance, a set of aftermarket 22-inch wheels have been installed alongside 37×13.5-inch R22 off-road tires.

If customers want more than just improved performance, GeigerCars has also developed a Luxury Package for the pickup. Priced at $9,345, the package comes complete with satellite navigation, dual automatic climate control, an upgraded audio system, and a 360-degree camera.

Prices for an overhauled F-150 Raptor from GeigerCars start at 124,600 euros, or roughly $148,000 in the U.S.

China Has Made Another Ford F-150 Clone, This Time Of The Raptor 17
Nov
Posted by Brad Anderson in china, Ford, Ford F-150, new cars, Replica, Trucks on 11 17th, 2017

The Chinese are back at it, creating a pickup truck that takes obvious design inspiration from the Ford F-150 Raptor.

Reports from China say that the vehicle comes from a company dubbed Projen and while sales of the pickup have yet to commence, we wouldn’t be surprised if the carmaker has some difficulties actually bringing it to the market.

Back in 2012, JAC Motors unveiled a direct copy of the Ford F-150 to its dealers in China. However, Ford managed to prevent the company from building the pickup, revealing to the press that it had gone to the trouble of securing design patents in China. Given the popularity of the F-150 Raptor, we’d be surprised if Ford didn’t also have patents for the hardcore pickup in China as well.

Either way, the design of the Projen is hilariously similar to the real thing. For starters, the blacked-out front grille is essentially identical to the Raptor, as are the headlights. Additionally, the Projen includes a silver skid plate, beefy wheels, tires, and tailgate and taillight designs similar to the Raptor.

If the Projen does somehow reach the production line before Ford steps in, it will allegedly carry a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine.

John Hennessey Drives The VelociRaptor 6×6, Says It Feels Like A Military Vehicle 13
Nov
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in Ford, Ford F-150, Ford Videos, Hennessey, tuning, video on 11 13th, 2017

Say what you want about Hennessey’s new VelociRaptor 6×6, but you cannot overlook its level of badassery and head-turning ability.

For some select consumers, those attributes alone might be worth the $349,000 that the company command for the truck in the States.

John Hennessey believes that despite its off-road potential, most owners will park it “in front of a fancy restaurant or hotel”, and “that’s okay, because they’ll have something that’s very unique and special”.

Hennessey went for a short spin in a VelociRaptor 6×6, saying that it feels like a military vehicle, with a huge towing ability, and plenty of power thanks to the 600hp 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine. However, this is a very subjective first insight into the six-wheeled 2018 Ford F-150 Raptor crew-cab, as it comes from the company’s founder.

Hennessey admitted that he would gladly take this VelociRaptor 6×6 for an off-road session, but since he was sitting inside an example that was headed to its owner in Florida, he had to restrain himself.

During the short video, Hennessey said that besides the initial batch of 50 units, all of them made for the US market, they will build 50 more, for the rest of the world, so if you’re looking to splurge on your very own example, then you should make a deposit very soon.

Hennessey’s New VelociRaptor Shows The Earth Who’s Boss 9

While Hennessey’s new six-wheeled VelociRaptor has stolen the headlines in recent weeks, the tuning company’s ‘regular’ four-wheel VelociRaptor 600 Twin Turbo is still a potent bit of kit.

In order to show off the performance capabilities of the modified Ford F-150 Raptor, Hennessey has dropped a clip of the car ripping up the dirt near its facilities in Texas.

Admittedly, the ‘off-roading’ depicted in the video isn’t much more than some bumpy grass, so we don’t get a chance to see what the truck is really capable of.

Nevertheless, it does perfectly capture growl emitted from the twin-turbo V6 engine, overhauled to produce 600 hp at 6,000 rpm and 622 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm.
