2013 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG Makes Official Debut w/ Petronas F1 Race Car 21

After all of the spy shots and speculations, Mercedes-Benz finally officially revealed the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG in conjunction with the launch of the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 W03 race car in Spain.

Their latest edition to the AMG line of performance vehicles comes with a familiar design and powerplant. The infamous M157 twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 engine, laying 530 horsepower to the rear wheels (557 hp via optional Performance Package), is good for launching the new SL63 AMG to 60mph in 4.2 seconds. The same engine can be found in the new CLS63 AMG, E63 AMG, S63 AMG and ML63 AMG.

The added power is always wanted but Mercedes-Benz AMG engineers were able to accomplish the task with a 30% better fuel economy and tip the scale 276 pounds less when compared to its predecessor. Other hallmark features of the new SL63 AMG are larger cooling ducts, a deeper front bumper, AMG-specific LED daytime running lights, widened sills, a deck spoiler, V8 Biturbo badges and an integrated rear diffuser on top of four trapezoid-shaped exhaust tailpipes. A new roadster version will feature an aluminum retractable hard-top roof that folds in 20 seconds.

Additional details of the new 2013 SL63 AMG will be unveiled February 22nd.

Mercedes have given the C63 AMG a performance as well as design upgrade, the reason the huge success of the original model. Mercedes-Benz wanted to give its customers something afresh. The car brand has formally announced the 2012 C63 AMG. Although a successor to its older sibling, the C63 AMG is vastly inspired by SL63 AMG.

This new model gets fresh radiator grille, large Merc star, wing type transverse fins and a new AMG front apron with a lower cross member painted in high-gloss black upfront. There is also AMG daytime running LED lights alongside the clear lens headlamps with ILS (Intelligent Lighting System) and latest side air outlets.

Staying with the front of the car, the bonnet with upgraded powerdomes is aluminum made. The tires are 235/40 R 18 and 255/35 R 18 at front and rear respectively with 5 twin spoke AMG light alloys painted in titanium grey with a high sheen finish.

Changing our view to rear, the new apron has a black diffuser insert with 3 diffuser fins. Two chrome twin tailpipes from AMG give the looks as well as the note.

The transmission is from SL63; AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission has 4 driving modes (C, S, S+, M) and double-declutching and RACE START functions. The C mode or Controlled efficiency mode provides smooth and early up-shifts maintaining min engine speed. This improves fuel efficiency at 12 L/100 Km/ 12.3 for the Estate and reduces CO2 emissions to 280 g/Km (288 for Estate). The M mode is dynamic and responsive while the S and S+ modes offer gearshifts within 100 milliseconds.

The heart of the car is an eight cylinder 6 L engine producing 336 kW (457 hp) at 6800 rpm and 600 Nm of torque @ 5000 rpm. For the facts and figures column, 0-100 Km/h in just 4.5 seconds (4.6 for Estate) and top speed of 250 Km/h.

AMG additionally offers the sports package whereby the power output increases to 358 kW (487 hp) and 0-100 km/h acceleration time reduces to 4.4 seconds (Estate: 4.5 s).

This beauty will be on sale from July, costing €71,340 in Germany.
