Miss Your Chance For A Maybach S650 Cabrio? This Dealer Has Two 7
Posted by Carscoops Staff in Maybach, Mercedes S-Class Cabrio, Mercedes-Maybach, Middle East on 01 7th, 2018

The Mercedes name carries with it a lot of clout. Maybach all the more so. The S650 Cabriolet, then, might be considered the Mercedes of Mercedes – or the Maybach of Maybachs.

Based on the S-Class convertible, the S650 was a highly exclusive set of wheels. It packed the 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine from the AMG S65 into an even more luxurious package.

Only 300 were made, leaving the overwhelming likelihood that you didn’t get your hands on one. But if you missed your opportunity the first time around, there are still some to be found on the second-hand market. And this dealer has two.

Listed by Deals on Wheels out of Dubai are two examples of the ultimate drop-top Benz: one in red with a deep brown leather interior, the other in black with red leather. So if you like the color red, it may be a tough choice – both presented in brand-new condition with only delivery miles on the odometer.

Even tougher, though, is the asking price: 1,699,000 Emirati dollars, or roughly $462k at current exchange rates. Of course if that strikes you as pocket change, you could always buy both.

This Is (And May Remain) The Only Maybach S650 Cabrio On Forgiato Alloys 17
Posted by Carscoops Staff in Forgiato, Maybach, Mercedes S-Class Cabrio, Mercedes-Maybach on 12 17th, 2017

Mercedes has gone to considerable lengths to differentiate the Maybach S650 Cabriolet from “lesser” S-Class convertibles. But the owner of those one has set his apart even further by adding a set of custom wheels.

Of the 300 examples to be made (and 75 allocated to the United States), this is the only example riding on a set of Forgiato alloys.

These Tec 2.2 wheels from Forgiato’s Tecnica series feature a brushed finish (in contrast to all the chrome on the Maybach) with spokes and bolts painted to match the drop-top’s red bodywork.

Further setting it apart are yellow brake calipers and windows tinted with film from SunTek. The modifications were applied by Herm G of Road Show International out in Atlanta, which happens to be the home town of Mercedes-Benz USA. We don’t know whose ride it is, but something tells us it probably belongs to a baller from one of the Georgia metropolis’ major sports franchises.

Whoever it belongs to, would you considering it sacrilege to mess with the package Daimler perfected, or a no-brainer considering how much the owner must already have spent on the car? That’s probably a matter of taste more than anything, so check it out in the images below and sound off in the comments section.

$830k For A Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman Is Quite A Stretch 3
Posted by Carscoops Staff in Maybach, Mercedes S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach, used cars on 12 3rd, 2017

For most of us, a “regular” Mercedes-Benz S-Class would be more than sufficiently accommodating and luxurious. But that’s just the starting point, as above the standard S-Class there is the Maybach version, and above that, the Pullman. And there just happens to be one up for sale.

Daimler’s flagship sedan, the Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman measures over 21 feet long, making it longer than the extended-wheelbase versions of the Bentley Mulsanne and Rolls-Royce Phantom and putting it in the same league as the Mulliner Grand Limousine.

According to Carlink International, the Dutch dealer listing this example on JamesEdition, only six examples were made, and this is the only one currently available for sale. It’s done up in black and sports a beige interior, with just about every option in the book thrown in. So, as you might have guessed, it’s not exactly cheap.

The asking price of €697,480 works out to about $830k at current exchange rates. For that kind of scratch, you could just about get yourself a fleet of ten base S-Class sedans, or five “ordinary” Maybachs. For our part, we’d gladly take just one Maybach S-Class in which to be chauffeured around, and spend the rest on a supercar for the weekends. The truth is, though, that anyone who would even consider a limousine so opulent as this doesn’t have to choose between one or the other…

Maybach S650 Not Enough? Check Out The New Brabus 900 12
Posted by Carscoops Staff in brabus, Maybach, mercedes, Mercedes S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach, tuning on 11 12th, 2017

Mercedes recently upgraded its top-of-the-line Maybach S-Class sedan with the twin-turbo V12 from the AMG S65, giving the big limousine all the power and torque that you could ask for. Still, there are some who may want even more. And for those individuals, there’s Brabus.

The Benz tuner extraordinaire has released a new series of modifications for the updated S-Class, chief among them the Maybach S650 – which Brabus has cranked up to 888 horsepower.

To get there, Brabus bored out the engine from 6.0 liters to 6.3 and fitted new turbochargers, crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods, and exhaust system. To go with the engine enhancements, it’s also offering a full array of visual and aerodynamic upgrades, as well as an interior customized to the buyer’s taste.

The headline figure here, though, is a 0-62 time of just 3.7 seconds (limited largely by the traction of the rear driven wheels) and a top speed in excess of 217 miles per hour. Not bad for a sedan weighing the better part of three tons.

Brabus will apply the same upgrades to the “standard” S600 and the AMG S65 which share the same engine architecture. But if that all seems like too much to handle, it’s also released performance upgrades for the (relatively) smaller engines on offer. It’ll tune the S560 up to 650 hp and the AMG S63 to 691 hp. With four-wheel traction (and a lighter engine), we wouldn’t be surprised to see the latter version achieve even more impressive performance.

We have to hand it to Daimler: when the Maybach project didn't go as well as planned, they went back to the drawing board and came out again with a better business plan. In the process they created a new market segment in between the S-Class and where the Maybach stood, instead of taking on Rolls-Royce and Bentley as they initially planned.
