New Ram HD Confirmed For 2020, Will Be Built In The U.S. 11

Posted by Michael Gauthier in Jeep, RAM, USA on 01 11th, 2018

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has announced plans to invest more than $1 billion into the Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan to prepare the plant to build the next-generation of Ram Heavy Duty pickups.

Production is slated to begin in 2020 and the new Ram Heavy Duty trucks will be built alongside the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer.

The decision means the trucks will no longer be built at the Saltillo Truck Assembly Plant in Mexico. Instead, that facility will be repurposed to produce to build “future commercial vehicles for global distribution.”

The move is expected to create 2,500 new jobs at the Warren facility and the company says the decision solidifies the United States as the “global manufacturing hub for Ram products.”

Little is known about the next-generation of Ram Heavy Duty pickups but we’ll get a glimpse at how they will look when the 2019 Ram 1500 debuts at the North American International Auto Show next week.

Besides announcing the decision to move truck production to the United States, FCA revealed approximately 60,000 hourly and salaried workers will be getting a bonus of $2,000 in the second quarter to recognize their “continued commitment to the company’s success.” FCA says this and the truck announcement were both made possible by the passage of U.S. tax reform which occurred late last year.

Google Assistant Heads To Android Auto To Battle Amazon’s Alexa 10

A number of automakers have recently announced plans to integrate Amazon’s Alexa into future models but Google is fighting back by adding its Assistant to Android Auto.

The company is rolling out the update in the United States this week and the addition of the Google Assistant will allow drivers to easily ask their vehicle for directions or have it play their favorite music. Drivers can even use the Assistant to send or receive messages though services like WhatsApp.

Despite the backlash over GM’s marketplace app, Google is following a similar route as the company announced its Assistant will soon enable drivers to reserve a parking space with SpotHero and order from Starbucks while driving.

To use Android Auto and its new Assistant, users can download the app on their smartphone or connect their phone to one of the more than 400 models that offer Android Auto compatibility. Google went on to say they are working with automakers to directly integrate the Assistant into upcoming models and this will eliminate the need for a smartphone in the future.

In related news, Google announced Kia and Fiat Chrysler owners will soon be able to use the Assistant to remotely lock / unlock their vehicle doors and check its fuel status – among other things. The feature is already available on certain models from BMW, Mercedes, and Hyundai.

Mutant RAM Wrangler From Abu Dhabi Is Very Happy To See You 10

While calling this the “RAM Wrangler” would be the simplest way to describe it, in actuality, it looks more like something that a giant version of Cruella de Vil might drive.

This image was uploaded to Reddit by user craigchandler0398, and according to MiceTimes, the car is part of the exclusive collection of Sheikh Hamad Bin Hamdan al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi.

As you can see, while the front end belongs to a RAM truck, the entire cab is from a Jeep Wrangler. Meanwhile, there’s no telling what type of chassis work was performed underneath that body kit, or what type of engine lies buried underneath the gigantic bonnet.

Believe it or not, this is hardly the weirdest thing you might find in the Sheikh’s collection, as he also owns a gigantic Jeep and Dodge Power Wagon, an old S-Class monster truck, a 6-wheel Nissan Patrol and even a house on wheels.

For the rest of us however, seeing a part Jeep, part RAM, part “I can’t even…”, makes for a rare and unusual sighting, to say the least.

Hennessey Hustles The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk To 175 MPH 9

In between developing the promised world-beating Venom F5 hypercar and Ford VelociRaptor 6×6, John Hennessey recently jumped behind the wheel of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk to see just how fast the super-SUV is.

Off the line, we recently saw a stock Trackhawk demolish a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat in a scene that would’ve inevitably upset many Challenger fan-boys. Now we know just how fast the Trackhawk can go in a straight line.

Jeep asserts that the Trackhawk is capable of hitting 180 mph (289 km/h) and when behind the wheel, Hennessey was able to take the SUV up to 175 mph (281 km/h), as indicated on the speedometer.

Although the ultimate Jeep fell somewhat short of the automaker’s claim, 175 mph in an SUV of this size is an extraordinary feat.

For those that want to go even faster, Hennessey will soon have the answer, recently confirming that it’ll offer a tuning package with 1012 hp and 969 lb-ft (1,313 Nm) of torque on tap.

Jeep Driver Spins On Black Ice, Somehow Avoids Hitting Anything! 7

Because black ice is pretty much invisible to drivers it is extremely dangerous, as the person behind the wheel of this red Jeep Grand Cherokee found out.

Normally, people who lose control of their vehicles tend to consider themselves unlucky. In this case though, spinning like that without leaving the road or impacting other cars was actually pretty fortunate.

From what we can tell, as the Jeep crossed over in front of the dashcam car, its driver had already the brakes, which tends to make matters worse when you’re driving on slippery surfaces. Anyway, the SUV spun around 360-degrees twice before the driver managed to regain some sort of control, gently sliding the car back towards the first lane, and continuing on their journey.

According to the description, the incident occurred on New Year’s Eve in Abilene, Texas, where temperatures have dipped below freezing a few times in recent weeks.

FCA To Showcase 2018 Jeep Wrangler And New Tech Features At CES 5
Jan
Posted by Michael Gauthier in CES, FCA, Jeep, Jeep Wrangler, Tech on 01 5th, 2018

Chrysler introduced the Portal concept at the Consumer Electronics Show last year and the company is returning in 2018 to showcase of host of new features.

The main attraction will be the 2018 Jeep Wrangler which recently debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is bringing it to CES to highlight the model’s high-tech features which include 4G LTE connectivity and an 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

The brand will also be showcasing their new Jeep Adventure Reality app for late model iOS devices such as the iPhone 7, 8, and X as well as the iPad Pro. The app is currently available and it’s an augmented reality configuration tool which allows users to build their own 2018 Wrangler and then see what it would look like in their driveway.

Besides the Wrangler, FCA will be touting their new Uconnect smartwatch app which is available for Apple Watch and Android Wear devices. The app allows users to remotely start their vehicle, lock / unlock doors, and honk the horn if they need to find their vehicle in a crowded parking lot.

Another new technology feature is FCA’s Family Alerts which allow owners to monitor their vehicle from the Uconnect smartphone app. Owners can set a variety of alerts including a Boundary Alert, a Curfew Alert, and a Speed Alert. There’s also a Valet Alert which will notify owners if their vehicle is driven outside a 0.25-mile radius of its drop-off location.

Another new feature is called Drive ‘n Save and it is available on 2018 models equipped with Uconnect Access or SiriusXM Guardian. The system collects data on how the vehicle is being driven and owners can then use that information to try to get a discount on insurance.

All These FCA Vehicles Need To Have Their Fire Extinguishers Replaced 4
Jan
Posted by Carscoops Staff in Chrysler, Dodge, FCA, Jeep, RAM, Recalls on 01 4th, 2018

Of all the recalls we’ve seen from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, this one hardly seems the biggest. It “only” affects about 60,000 vehicles, after all. But it’s the enormous variety of them that’s caught our attention.

The recall’s been issued specifically for those vehicles equipped with Kidde fire extinguishers, the nozzles of which could be prone to clogging up or falling off altogether. In either case, they won’t be doing their jobs in case, heaven forbid, an actual fire should break out.

FCA apparently fitted the problematic units to certain examples of – deep breath now – the Chrysler Pacifica (2018) and Town & Country (2014-2016); Dodge Caliber (2007), Challenger (2009), Charger (2016), Dart (2015-16), Durango (2004), Grand Caravan (2014-2016), and Journey (2014); Jeep Cherokee (2014-16), Compass (2017), and Patriot (2011); and Ram 1500 (2012, 2015), 2500 (2013-18), 3500 (2012-18), 4500 (2012-18), and 5500 (2012-18), as well as the ProMaster (2014-17), and ProMaster City (2015-17) vans.

Tally up all the models by their model years and you’re looking at 55 different vehicles, accounting for 62,042 units in the United States. Rather than call them all into dealers to have those fire extinguishers replaced, though, FCA’s instructing owners on how to get in touch with Kiddle for replacement units.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk Wipes The Floor With Challenger Hellcat 29

Posted by Brad Anderson in Dodge, Dodge Challenger, Dodge Videos, Drag-Racing, Film, Hellcat, Jeep, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Videos, video on 12 29th, 2017

When the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat was released, it quickly became the king of the drag strip, frequently out-accelerating much more expensive sports cars and supercars. Soon, high-performance versions of the Tesla Model S came along and the Hellcat’s reign was over.

Fast forward to the end of 2017 and it is no longer the sleek, two-door Challenger Hellcat that is the quickest vehicle in the FCA family. As a matter of fact, the Hellcat has now been surpassed not just by the Demon, but also the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

Powering both the Challenger Hellcat and the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine delivering 707 hp.

However, whereas the Hellcat struggles to put all that muscle to the ground, the all-wheel drive system of the Trackhawk makes it far superior in a straight line. To show just how big the performance gap is, Hennessey Performance pitted the duo together and the Trackhawk left the Hellcat Widebody in its wake.

While Hellcat owners may be disgruntled that a Jeep is significantly quicker than their muscle car, SUV enthusiasts will be enthusiastically celebrating. We wouldn’t blame either of them.

Texas Home Owner Says There’s Something Wrong With This Road 28
Dec
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in Accidents, Jeep, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Offbeat News, video on 12 28th, 2017

It seems this left turn is so tricky in the wet that a Texas home owner had to install video cameras just to capture all the cars that came barrelling in.

To make matters worse, this old Jeep Grand Cherokee not only crashed into the yard, it also nearly hit a pedestrian walking by. Thankfully, though, he saw the car and moved out of the way just in time.

The person who installed the cameras states that they’ve even had multiple hit and run drivers crash on their property, and that the house itself was hit back in February, followed by the fence.

“This is a chronic problem and now someone almost got killed. The city is not helping so far,” added the home owner, who also claims that most people that end up crashing at that location don’t even have car insurance.

We can’t help but acknowledge the fact that a street sign warning drivers to slow down could make a huge difference at that location, especially when the road is slippery.

Grand Cherokee Trackhawk Races Challenger Hellcat In Forza Motorsport 7 23

According to the people who deal in algorithms and virtual physics and developed the Forza Motorsport 7 game, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is no pushover when it comes to drag racing a Challenger Hellcat.

Also, thanks to the user who goes by the nickname Ericship111, we now have a pretty good idea regarding who would win in a virtual fight between the world’s most powerful SUV and the mighty Hellcat, at least in Forza’s world.

This straight line race takes place over a distance of one mile (1.6 km), which means that you not only need to get off the line quickly, but also have sufficient power to keep your opponent at bay at high speed.

Let’s run some numbers, shall we? For starters, both opponents pack the same 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine producing 707 HP and 645 lb-ft (874 Nm) of torque. Jeep says the Trackhawk will hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.5 seconds, which is very similar to what the Challenger Hellcat can do, and while the Dodge is lighter, the Jeep has all-wheel drive that may, or may not, help it in getting off the line faster.

Therefore, the result of this race is unpredictable, even in a video game. We obviously won’t tell you who won, but we will say that you’ll want to pay close attention to the finish line.

Is This The Facelifted 2019 Jeep Renegade? 22
Dec
Posted by Michael Gauthier in Jeep, Jeep Renegade, Jeep Scoops, Scoops on 12 22nd, 2017

Jeep recently gave the Renegade a host of improvements for 2018 but it appears the company is also working on a facelifted model.

Motor1 noticed a couple of images posted to Instagram by Renegadejeeps and they appear to show a modestly revised model with an updated front fascia. The styling changes are incredibly subtle but the crossover has been equipped with an updated front bumper which includes new air intakes and repositioned fog lights. Additional changes are limited but the grille has been tweaked and the model features LED headlights which mimic those on the 2018 Wrangler.

The single interior image doesn’t reveal much but it appears the cabin will largely carryover. This isn’t too surprising as the interior was recently updated with new seat fabrics, updated bezel treatments, two additional storage compartments, and a revised Selec-Terrain shifter.

Additional information is limited but the updated model is expected to be unveiled in the second half of 2018. It remains unclear if there will be any performance modifications but the current Renegade is offered with a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder producing 160 hp (119 kW) and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque. Customers can also opt for a 2.4-liter four-cylinder developing 180 hp (134 kW) and 175 lb-ft (237 Nm) of torque.
