Green Ford Focus RS Mk2 In The Green Hell Makes Us Green With Envy 12

The new Ford Focus RS may have conquered the hearts of many motoring enthusiasts, but its predecessor, the Mk2, is still alive and kicking. Whenever it’s not listed for sale on the used car market, it continues to put lots of smiles on the faces of those that get to drive it.

Throw in a few laps on what is the most famous track in the world (yes, that would be Nurburgring), and you have the perfect recipe. At a first glance, this previous-gen hot hatch appears to be stock, but turn that volume up you’ll hear it crackling and backfiring – and if the clip’s description is correct, that’s due to the Milltek exhaust that has been fitted to it.

The 2.5-liter turbo’d inline-five engine had a nice soundtrack anyway, but the new exhaust simply turns up the volume to 11. As far as performance is concerned, its 305PS (301hp) and 440Nm (325lb-ft) of torque are more than enough, and despite the fact that it’s front-wheel drive, the second-gen Focus RS needs just 5.9sec to go from naught to 100km/h (62mph), and maxes out at 263km/h (163mph).

New Ford Focus RS BTCC Racer Is Ready For The 2018 Season 11

After a 27-year absence, the ‘RS’ badge is back in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), represented by the new Ford Focus RS that debuted at the Autosport International Show.

Designed and built in-house by Motorbase during the closed off-season, the racer wants to pick up where the Sierra Cosworth RS500 left off, so it will take to the track in full race trim.

“I’m a Ford fan through and through. The RS is in my DNA from when I raced RS Cosworths back in the day, so I’m over the moon to bring them back to the BTCC as part of the Motorsport stable”, said Team Principal David Bartrum. “The RS styling suits the BTCC bodywork so well, the styling is really aggressive and has given the Focus a whole new look.”

The Team chief added that work on the car included much more than “updating a few bumpers”, as “a lot of development work has gone into this car, and we’re confident that the improvements will show on track”.

The new Ford Focus RS BTCC racer will head to the track officially next month, when the squad will commence its pre-season testing program in Spain, wearing the distinctive yellow and red Shredded Wheat branding and Gallagher Insurance decals.

Responsible for making Motorbase’s ambitions real is Tom Chilton, who was signed for the 2018 campaign, and the team is expected to announce their second driver soon.

Ford Focus RS vs Audi SQ7: Is There A Real-Life Lesson Somewhere In There? 2

Suppose you’re driving your new Ford Focus RS when an Audi SQ7 pulls up next to you on the traffic lights. This is going to be interesting.

Sure the two cars are not by any measure comparable but still it’s interesting to see which one is the fastest. Will it be the big diesel-powered SUV or is the grade-A hot hatch too tough for the traffic light grand prix?

The Audi SQ7 is powered by a 4.0-liter V8 TDI engine that makes use of an electric-powered compressor in order to eliminate the traditional turbo lag. Despite the big footprint, the fastest of the Q7s is capable of a 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds which sounds competitive enough for the Focus RS.

The Ford Focus RS is powered by a smaller 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine that makes 345hp channeled also to all four wheels. Ford says it’ll do a 0-62mph sprint in 4.7 seconds, making things more intriguing.

Top Gear magazine brought the two together in their latest drag race video, so let’s see if the manual hot hatch will beat the big automatic diesel SUV. Ladies and gentlemen, place your bets.

‘Tis The Season To Buy Ford’s New Focus RS Edition Christmas Special 20
Dec
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in Ford, Ford Focus RS, new cars, prices, UK on 12 20th, 2017

Ford is celebrating the holidays by launching a limited edition Focus RS in the UK, which can already be ordered from £36,295 ($48,538).

Its starting price represents a £3,530 ($4,271) premium over the entry-level hot hatch, but paying it means getting one of just 300 ‘Race Red Editions’ that will be assembled in February and March, next year.

Finished in a festive color scheme, the new Ford Focus RS Race Red Edition features 19-inch cast-black alloy wheels, grey brake calipers, contrasting black roof, side mirror casings and rear spoiler, and is described as a “celebration” of the car as its “production nears its end”, by Ford of Britain’s managing director and chairman, Andy Barratt.

Alongside the visual updates, this very special compact hot hatch gets a front mechanical Quaife limited-slip differential, for improved traction and driving appeal, whose purpose is to limit the torque delivered to whichever wheel has reduced traction, and redistribute it to the wheel with better grip, to counteract the wheelspin.

Among its standard equipment, the Ford Focus RS Race Red Edition has privacy glass, rear parking sensors, electric folding mirrors, Recaro seats with part-leather upholstery, carbon fiber interior trim, cruise control with speed limiter, heated steering wheel, Active City Stop, KeyFree system, and others.

Ford Working On A Fix To The Coolant-Guzzling Focus RS Engine 12
Dec
Posted by Brad Anderson in Ford, Ford Focus, Ford Focus RS, Reports on 12 12th, 2017

Ford says it is working on a fix for early versions of the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder powering the Focus RS after discovering that it can consume coolant fluid.

The American carmaker believes that the issue affects certain 2016 and 2017 models and results in the vehicles producing white exhaust smoke as they burn through coolant when cold.

Speaking to Autocar, a Ford spokesman failed to say whether the firm will issue a recall to fix the engines, simply stating that it is “working on a repair for all customers.”

“In the meantime, if vehicles show these symptoms, customers should visit their dealer for an inspection and repair under warranty,” the spokesman said.

According to a number of Focus RS owners, the problem stems from a faulty head gasket that’s unable to effectively seal the engine block to the head. This issue is allegedly caused by block distortion as the shape of the engine block shifts during heat cycles, thus allowing coolant to leak into the cylinders when the engine is cold. Ford has yet to say what it thinks is causing the problem.

Watch In Dismay As A Ford Focus RS Gets Crushed At A Junk Yard 8

Ever since it broke cover almost 3 years ago (time flies, doesn’t it?), the Ford Focus RS Mk3 has been punished in more ways than anyone can count.

However, what happens to this Ford Focus RS in the video posted by HartvoorAutos on Facebook is hard to imagine, so if you’re a declared fan of the of the performance model, you may want to look away.

Now, to those of you who are still with us, we’ll tell you that this example was put to sleep in one of the hardest ways possible, by getting crushed at a junk yard. The exact reason as to why anyone would want to torture it is unknown, as the short video doesn’t give anything away, but we could be looking at a prototype or test car probably needed to be destroyed.

Towards the end of the ‘gory’ film, a Ford Focus ST Estate makes a dramatic entrance, by being taken to the murder scene using a forklift and lots of brutality, so it may have suffered the exact same drama as its more powerful sibling, so RIP to both cars.

Kia Stinger Vs Civic Type R, Focus RS And Golf R Is An Odd Battle 2

The guys from Drive set out to pick the best performance car under AUD $60,000 (USD $45,434), and they chose four distinct vehicles to do so.

What they brought were the Ford Focus RS Honda Civic Type R and Volkswagen Golf R, three hot hatches that need no further introduction.

However, the Kia Stinger Si is the fourth addition, as it has a starting price that falls within the AUD $60k budget, 365 horsepower and 510 Newton-meters (376lb-ft) of torque from a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 petrol engine.

Granted, the Kia Stinger is not a direct rival to the rest of the group as it is larger and competes against four-door premium compact coupes such as the Audi A5 Sportback and BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe – plus it’s rear-wheel drive.

This alone might be enough to make enthusiasts favor it over the super hatchbacks, but can it challenge them as a performance machine? There’s only one way to find out: just check out the following video.

Ford Performance Parts Launched In Europe For ST, RS And Mustang 1
Dec

Coinciding with the start of the 2017 Essen Motor Show, Ford has presented various parts that enhance the look, sound, and driving attributes of their performance models.

Developed together with specialists such as Borla, KW, Remus, and Roush, they’re available to order across Europe from December 1 for the Focus ST, RS, and Mustang models.

Adjustable coilover strut and shock absorbers, with up to 40mm (1.57in) reduction in ride height are part of the offerings, along with light alloy wheels that offer up to 15 percent in weight reduction, and high-grade stainless steel exhaust systems in road-legal and track-only versions.

The entire Ford Performance range can also be equipped with a special gearshift knob selection, with carbon fiber and unique short-shift gear linkage for the Mustang six-speed manual, which is said to reduce gearshift travel by 20 percent.

Offered in three stages for the Mustang’s 5.0-liter V8 engine are the Performance Calibration Power Packs, capable of boosting the unit’s rev limit to up to 7,500rpm. The powertrain can also be fitted with a supercharger kit, from Roush Performance, which is compatible with both six-speed manual and automatic gearboxes, and boosts power to over 600PS (592hp).

Presented for the first time in Europe is the Ford Performance Drift Stick Concept. Developed and designed for the Focus RS, and approved by Ken Block, this is a rally-inspired electronic handbrake, which uses the car’s Drift Mode to deliver clutch-free drift turns, similar to those of a real rally car.

Ford Focus RS Filmed Drifting Again And Again On The Ring 28
Nov
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in drifting, Ford, Ford Focus RS, Ford Videos, Nurburgring, Offbeat News, video on 11 28th, 2017

The Ford Focus RS has a special ‘Drift’ mode that makes it easier to control it when going sideways, but how often have you seen it in action during a track day at the Nurburgring?

It’s safe to assume that the driver of this compact hot hatch had a lot of fun in the famous German circuit, as he was filmed pushing that rear end out a few times and tried to keep it for as long as he could.

Still, despite almost losing it once, no cars were damaged during these tail-shaking laps, as we have seen it happen before to drivers that believed the special ‘Drift’ mode would turn them into professional drifters. After all, even your mom can drift it, can’t she?

Despite the Nordschleife being notorious for its unforgiving nature, we have to give some credit to the driver of this Focus RS not just for his skills, but also for doing his antics with the 345 HP super hatch on the track and not on public roads.

Ken Block’s 700 HP Ford RS200 Evo Will Make You Yearn For The ’80s 24

Posted by Brad Anderson in Ford, Ford Focus, Ford Focus RS, Ford Videos, Ken Block, video on 11 24th, 2017

The latest Ford Focus RS is amazing. However, it is far from the coolest vehicle to wear Ford’s famed ‘RS’ badge. That honor has to go to the RS200.

Built by Ford Europe from 1984 to 1986, the Ford RS200 was a road-going version of the brand’s Group B rally car and restricted to just 200 units worldwide.

Ford Performance driver Ken Block recently acquired number 34, a rare Evolution version, quickly adorned it with a matte black wrap and took to LA’s streets alongside his Focus RS. You only have to watch the videos below for a few seconds to realize just how special the RS200 is, particularly when compared to the new all-wheel drive hot hatch.

Powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the RS200 Evo delivers roughly 700 hp.

Road cars don’t get much better than this.
