Fire Risk Prompts One Last Maserati Recall For 2017 31
Dec

Maserati has issued another recall. This time it’s relatively small in scope, but it’s rather serious in nature.

The problem comes down to a fuel line that could leak gasoline onto the engine bay or the underside of the vehicle. And as you might imagine, that poses the very real risk of a fire breaking out, with potentially disastrous consequences.

The campaign announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration affects an estimated 1,406 examples of the 2018 Quattroporte and Ghibli in the United States, and another 86 in Canada – all of the units manufactured between July 24 and December 14 of this past year.

The manufacturer issued a stop-sale order for those vehicles affected on December 15, and is now followed up with a recall. The fix entails fitting new new fuel delivery lines in a process that’s set to kick off on February 9, 2018. But until then, owners might consider leaving their vehicles parked.

This is the fifth Maserati recall we’ve reported on in 2017. In January the manufacturer announced the recall of all the Levante S crossovers it had sold in America up to that point. In February it issued two more recalls – one for the Quattroporte, Ghibli, and Levante, and another for just the sedans. And in March, it recalled the Levane again. Those are just the ones on which we reported in the United States. Here’s hoping it won’t have to issue many more in the new year ahead.

Maserati Extends Production Shutdowns To Mid-January, Says Report 20
Dec
Posted by Michael Karkafiris in Maserati, Maserati Ghibli, Maserati GranCabrio, Maserati GranTurismo, Maserati Levante, Maserati Quattroporte, Reports on 12 20th, 2017

Maserati’s planned production shutdowns over the holiday season will be reportedly extended in order to reduce vehicle stocks.

The Grugliasco and Mirafiori factories will stop producing Maseratis until mid-January, Automotive News reports citing union sources.

The Grugliasco factory, which builds the Ghibli and Quattroporte models, will remain closed for four weeks and up until January 15 when last year the facility was shut for three weeks over the Christmas and NY holiday period.

Similarly production of the Levante SUV at the Mirafiori plant will stop from December 20 to January 15. Last year the line was stopped for only one additional day beyond statutory holidays and weekends. The Modena factory, home to the Granturismo and Grancabrio, is going to reopen on January 8 after stopping production on December 15.

Maserati declined to comment on the shutdown schedule while the FIOM union head Federico Bellono said that he was unsure if the longer production stops is caused by the declining sales in China or a structural decline in general sales. “It is clear that production is slowing down and investment in new models is on hold,” he said.

JATO Dynamics analyst Felipe Munoz said that despite the Levante competing in a fast-growing segment, its sales are falling “faster than we could expect at this point of its product cycle. This is hard to explain but worrying for the brand.”

Maserati Levante And Quattroporte Receive ‘Nerissimo’ Package In LA 30
Nov
Posted by Brad Anderson in LA Auto Show, Levante, Maserati, Maserati Ghibli, Maserati Quattroporte, Reports on 11 30th, 2017

Back in April, Maserati premiered the Ghibli Nerissimo in New York. Fast forward to November’s LA Auto Show and the Italian marque has announced a Nerissimo package for the Levante and Quattroporte as well.

Like the Ghibli Nerissimo, the Levante and Quattroporte Nerissimo combine Nero black paint with Black Chrome accents on the front grille, trunk, side air vents, trident logo, and the Maserati badges across the exterior. Additionally, the window surrounds, exhaust tips, and vertical grille bars are all bathed in black.

Beyond the release of the Nerissimo package in Los Angeles, Maserati has used the show to display the 2018 model year Ghibli and Levante, now sold in GranLusso and GranSport trims.

The GranSport line aims to cater towards owners looking for a sportier-than-usual experience with their Maserati. By comparison, the GranLusso trim includes Ermenegildo Zegna silk or full premium Italian leather upholstery as well as wood trim throughout the cabin.

Another small announcement made by Maserati in LA is that electric power steering has replaced the hydraulic power steering system of the Ghibli, Quattroporte, and Levante.

Italian cars can be a lot of things to a lot of people, especially high-end models from manufacturers like Maserati.
