Toyota North America is the first automaker to announce the exact models of the expanded Takata airbag recall.

The latest list includes an estimated 601,300 units of various 2009-2013 Lexus, Scion, and Toyota cars, whose defective inflators may rupture when the airbag deploys, thus increasing the risk of injury and even death.

New additions are the 2009, 2010, and 2013 Scion xB, Toyota Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Lexus IS 250/350, and IS-F, 2009 and 2010 Toyota Yaris, and Lexus ES350, 2010 and 2013 Lexus IS 350C/350C, GX460, and Toyota Sienna, and 2010 and 2013 Toyota 4Runner.

Owners of these vehicles will be notified by March via first class mail, and dealers will replace either the front passenger airbag inflator or the entire assembly, depending on each case, free of charge.

Other automakers, such as Audi, BMW, Daimler Vans, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Jaguar Land Rover, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Subaru and Tesla still have to announce the exact models added to the ever-growing Takata recall recently, but they’re expected to do so by the end of January.

2009 – 2010 and 2013 Model Year Toyota Corolla

Toyota Unleashes Updated Yaris On The World Rally Championship 11
Jan
Posted by Carscoops Staff in Motorsport, Rally Cars, TOYOTA, Toyota Yaris, WRC on 01 11th, 2018

See this? It’s a Toyota Yaris. But not just any old Toyota Yaris.

As you’ve probably figured out from the photos (if not the headline), this is Toyota’s new World Rally Championship contender, unveiled at Autosport International ahead of the upcoming rally season.

The 2018 model is based closely on the version that the Japanese automaker (through its German motorsport base) entered in the championship last year, but benefits from some upgrades learned over the course of that campaign.

That means a revised aerodynamics package, specially tuned to generate more downforce at the front for better steering response. The tweaked bodywork also helps deliver more cooling to the mechanical components underneath, which will come in handy particularly at some of the hotter events on the calendar.

Last year in its debut season, the Toyota team won two rallies – in Sweden and Finland – to land fourth in the drivers’ standings and third in the manufacturers’ championship. The competition will be no less fierce this year, but with the new equipment, Toyota might just improve on its already impressive track record and recapture the crowns it last won in the 1990s with the Celica.

Fiat Punto Slapped With Zero Stars In Euro-NCAP’s Latest Safety Ratings 13

The Fiat Punto became the first model to receive a disappointing zero-star safety rating by Euro-NCAP.

The ageing Italian supermini has been on sale since 2005 and the new results reveal that it’s outclassed by every car tested in recent history, making it Euro NCAP’s first car ever to be awarded with zero stars.

The Fiat Punto managed to score two stars in adult and child occupant safety and pedestrian protection but the lack of driver assistance and crash avoidance systems brought its total score to zero.

“This is perhaps the strongest example of a manufacturer continuing to sell a product that is well past its best-before date, at the expense of the unsuspecting car buyer. We would urge consumers to check our website for the latest ratings and to choose cars with the most up-to-date five-star ratings, many examples of which we have seen in 2017”, Euro NCAP Secretary General, Michiel van Ratingen said.

The European New Car Assessment Programme updated the ratings of several recently facelifted models to allow consumers making a fair comparison to new cars. These included the Toyota Yaris, the Toyota Aygo, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, the Ford C-Max and Grand C-Max, the Opel Karl, the DS3 and the Fiat Punto.

With the exception of the Toyota Yaris which kept its five-star rating, most of the other models dropped to three stars in this year’s safety tests. The Toyota Aygo scored four stars with the optional safety equipment.

The safety organization also tested new models, awarding five stars to the Hyundai Kona, the Kia Stinger, the new BMW 6-Series and the Jaguar F-Pace. Three stars were awarded to the MG ZS SUV, the second-gen Dacia Duster and the Kia Stonic, which scores five stars when fitted with the optional safety equipment.

Corvette Lands On Toyota Yaris In Bizarre Canadian Driveway Crash 3

Both a C6-generation Chevrolet Corvette and a Toyota Yaris have been severely damaged in a bizarre crash in Brampton, Ontario.

Late last week, Brampton Fire and Emergency Services responded to calls after a Corvette somehow landed on top of a parked Yaris in a driveway after the sports car speared off the road.

Police are still investigating the exact cause of the crash but it’s believed that the driver of the Corvette lost control of the car, veered off the road, bounced off a tree and ended up on top of the Yaris.

Upon arriving at the scene, authorities extracted the 42-year-old Corvette driver from the car with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries. Fortunately, the Yaris owner was not in the hatchback at the time of the crash.

Speaking to CTV News, the homeowner, Payal Mehta, said the family heard a loud bang and rushed outside to see what happened.

“We just heard a big sound in the house. We just came out and we saw the car – the Corvette – on our driveway, all up on my car.”
