Toyota owners have quite the attachment to their cars, especially those who have a Highlander, as a new survey conducted by iSeeCars showed the Japanese SUV top the list of vehicles owners keep for 15 years or more.

The research firm looked at 650,000 vehicles between the 1981 and 2002 model years sold in 2017 and Toyota flooded the list. In fact, the top five vehicles kept for 15 years or more are all Toyotas, namely the Highlander, Sienna, Tundra, Prius and RAV4, with the Honda Odyssey following at sixth place.

Each of the cars listed was at least 1.6 times more likely to be kept by the original owner for 15 years or more, but the Highlander outpaced the average even further. Highlander owners were 2.7 times more likely to keep their vehicles, with 18.3 percent of original owners hanging on to them. The Sienna followed closely behind and was 2.5 times more likely to stick around in the driveway for at least 15 years, with 17.1 percent of owners holding onto the minivan for 15 years or more.

The entire list is populated solely by Japanese automakers, save for the Volkswagen Golf at the final, 15th spot, with 10.6 percent of original owners hanging on to their Golfs for at least 15 years.

“While a decade on the road used to be a significant milestone for vehicle life expectancy, the elevated quality of cars being produced has raised this standard to beyond ten years ,” said Phong Ly, CEO of iSeeCars.com. “Japanese automakers are known for setting quality and reliability standards, so it is no surprise that they are the most likely to reach the fifteen-year milestone.”

CR Owners Survey Lists Top 5 Most Satisfying New Cars 24

Whether you’re a petrolhead or not, there aren’t many things as enjoyable as buying a new car, but choosing among the plethora of models that are out there could prove to be quite difficult.

Enter Consumer Reports and their new study, which might make this task a bit easier.

Based on data collected from owners, who rated their rides in six categories that include driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems, and to answer the ultimate question, which is whether they would buy or lease it again, CR has put together the five most satisfying new cars on sale in the U.S. market right now.

#1 Tesla Model S

Elon Musk’s all-electric executive saloon is the car that put most smiles on the faces of consumers, with 92.5 percent of them saying that they would gladly buy it again. The Model S impressed buyers with its styling, comfort, and driving, managing to become more desirable than some highly established sports cars.

#2 Porsche 911

This brings us to number 2, the Porsche 911, with its impressive driving credentials, interior comfort, and great styling that has evolved over the years, yet it’s instantly recognizable. The sports car from Stuttgart is great as a daily driver, too, and in the publication’s survey came right under the Tesla Model S, with 92.1 percent of buyers admitting that they would happily choose one again.

#3 Chevrolet Corvette

The bronze medal goes to an all-time American classic that’s getting ready to be replaced by an entirely new generation that ditches the front-engine for a mid-engine layout when it comes out next year. However, until the C8 arrives, the Corvette C7 wowed 91.2 percent of its owners, who love the way it drives and consider it great value for money.

#4 Lincoln Continental

Missing the podium by an inch is the Lincoln Continental, which scored 91 percent in owner satisfaction. Unveiled at the beginning of the year, it shares its nuts and bolts with the Ford Fusion (or Mondeo in other markets), has a very imposing design, is tech-friendly and made its owners appreciate its comfort, driving characteristics, equipment and spacious cabin.

#5 Ford F-350

You might have noticed that, so far, that no crossovers, SUVs or pickups have made it on the list, which given their popularity, is remarkable. In fact, just one made it to CR’s number five, namely the Ford F-350. No less than 90 percent of the Blue Oval’s trusty heavy-duty truck owners say that they would absolutely buy it again, as they were impressed with the driving experience and rugged styling.

Bobcat Hitches 50-Mile Ride In The Grille Of A Toyota Prius 28

A bobcat has somehow survived a 50-mile journey in the front grille of a Toyota Prius after being struck in Richmond, Virginia.

WTVR reports that a woman driving to work last Thursday morning hit something on her journey. Unaware of what it was, she continued the drive and only noticed the bobcat wedged in the grille after a 50-mile and almost one-hour long drive into the city.

Shortly after, the woman contacted Richmond Animal Care & Control (RACC) who arrived on scene and quickly sedated and saved the animal.

“We got on scene and it really was true. It’s really a bobcat stuck in the front of a Prius grille,” said RACC officer Barbara Jones. “When we walked by, he hissed at us, so he’s alive and may be OK, which was so crazy since she drove from Gloucester to VCU.”

When the bobcat was sedated, rescuers manipulated the Prius’ bumper and were able to free it. Incredibly, the bobcat suffered no injuries other than a small cut on its back.

In-Depth Review Finds Very Few Faults With 2018 Toyota Prius 18

If you’re in the market a practical and fuel efficient hatchback, the only thing that might keep you from considering buying a Prius straight up could be its looks.

Let’s face it, it does look futuristic, but it’s not the prettiest thing on the road. However, if you move past this aspect (or better yet you like the way it looks, since this is highly subjective), you’ll likely end up enjoying your purchase.

The 2018 Prius is a very practical car, with plenty of room for luggage, comfortable seats, impressive safety tech, lots of storage spaces and a well laid out cabin with strong visibility ahead and around the pillars.

On the road, the Prius is great around town, with excellent maneuverability. However, there were some downsides such as the overly sensitive brakes, road noise and poor rearwards visibility. It’s also not very quick, so if you’re looking for effortless motorway overtaking capability, you’d better look somewhere else.

On the plus side, Toyota made the 2018 Prius handle surprisingly well, with decent grip and steering feel. On top of that, there’s a ‘Power’ mode that improves performance, although it’s not going to help you win any drag races. But, at the end of the day, it’s a Prius, so this doesn’t rank very highly on its potential customers’ list anyway, does it?

Toyota Recalls C-HR For Faulty Electric Brake, Prius PHEV Over A Fuse 18
Nov
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in PHEV, Recalls, Reports, TOYOTA, Toyota C-HR, Toyota Prius on 11 18th, 2017

Toyota’s North American arm is conducting two separate recalls that include 68,500 units of the 2018 C-HR and 2012-2015 Prius PHEV.

The first campaign revolves around some 28,600 units of the crossover, whose electronic parking brakes may not disengage or apply, thus resulting in a noncompliance with the federal safety standard.

This is a software issue that will be resolved via an update of the electronic control unit, free of charge to owners, who will receive a notification by first-class mail later this month informing them of the problem and advising them to make an appointment with an authorized dealer.

The second recall announced by Toyota includes roughly 39,900 units of the Prius Plug-In Hybrid, as driving them in EV mode repeatedly under high-load conditions such as long hill climbs could cause a fuse to malfunction.

If this happens, then drivers will notice warning lights and warning messages, and in some cases, they may experience reduced power. Under more extreme circumstances, though, the hybrid system could shut down, resulting in the loss of motive power, which however shouldn’t affect the power steering and braking.

Toyota’s dealers will replace the fuse with an improved unit at no cost to owners, who will be informed of this condition via first-class mail, starting January, 2018.
