I can appreciate Mercedes-Benz automobiles for what they are, but I have to say that I don’t really aspire to own one. Yes, they’re safe, yes, they’re stylish, but most, in my experience, are clinical and without emotion. Driving a fast car that doesn’t feel fast isn’t my idea of a good time, and luxury isn’t high on my list of priorities.

The exception to this rule is Mercedes-Benz’s Black Series, for which I have lusted after every single model. The formula for building a Black Series car is fairly simple: take an AMG-tuned Mercedes coupe, make it lighter, add sport seats and aerodynamic enhancements, then stuff in as much horsepower as you can. Black series cars are usually the most powerful models in the Mercedes lineup, and as you may guess, they’re built in a limited production run and priced accordingly.

Autoevolution tells us that Mercedes-Benz has confirmed the SLS AMG will get the Black Series treatment. Anything else is speculation at this point, but word is the SLS AMG’s 6.2-liter V-8 will get a boost in output from 563 horsepower to 610 horsepower. Torque is said to increase from 480 ft-lb to 499 ft-lb, and we’re guessing the car will shed some of its 3,600 pound curb weight to earn the Black Series designation.

The SLS AMG Black will probably make it to this side of the pond, but only in limited quantities. If you’re lucky enough to have a bank balance in the seven-digit range, now is the time to visit your Mercedes dealer and put a deposit down. Like all of the Black Series cars, supply stops just short of demand.

Nico Rosberg Terrifies David Coulthard On The ‘Ring 29

I know this as fact: ex-racing drivers make the world’s worst passengers at the hands of current racing drivers. David Coulthard is no stranger to going fast: the Scottish driver raced in Formula One from 1994 through 2008, racking up some 13 career victories and 12 pole positions. He’s still racing, driving in the DTM series for Mücke Motorsports.

Nico Rosberg is a current F1 driver and teammate to Michael Schumacher at Mercedes-Benz. Rosberg is young, but that doesn’t mean he’s inexperienced; in fact, he’s got five and a half seasons of F1 experience under his belt, but that’s not reassuring to David Coulthard when he climbs in a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG for a hot lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife. I’m sure Coulthard wasn’t reassured to learn that Rosberg was a ‘Ring virgin, and the wet pavement probably didn’t help the Scot’s nerves any. Sideways at triple-digit speeds is puckering, no matter who’s behind the wheel. Enjoy the epic video below.

526-Horsepower Electric Mercedes-Benz SLS E-Cell Prototype Revealed 22
Posted by Larry in Automotive, Electric, featured, Mercedes Benz, Mercedes Benz SLS AMG, News on 06 22nd, 2010

Mercedes-Benz has announced that they will be developing an electric version of the SLS AMG. The very first prototype of this SLS AMG E-Cell electric car was revealed in AMG Lumilectric Mango yellow paint.

The SLS E-Cell will be powered by 526hp and 649ft-lbs of torque electric motor capable of spinning at 12,000 rpm. To complete the package of this exclusive emissions-free electric supercar, Benz has incorporated LED headlights, staggered 19-inch (front) and 20-inch (rear) wheels wrapped in 265/35 and 295/30 rubber, respectively. The interior is a combination of black and white Alcantara and leather lined on the steering wheel, seats, center console and door linings. Also inside you will find a large touch-screen LCD mounted long-ways surrounded by carbon fiber accents.

We expect the SLS E-Cell to be compared to, and possible compete with, the Porsche 918 Spider.
