We don’t know if this guy was an idiot or God was looking out for him and his snarling 563 horsepower SLS AMG. Check it out!

Mercedes-Benz SLS Electric Drive Electrifies At 2012 Paris Motor Show 27

The Benz SLS AMG is already a monster on the road, although it is not too much of a choice track star, it still turns heads regardless. In a new-found sibling rivalry, Benz has unleashed a SLS Electric Drive version of the vehicle featuring a total output of 740 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque.

All of the Mercedes-Benz SLS Electric Drive’s power is made possible due to four synchronous electric motors powering all four wheels. Each electric motor weighs about 99 pounds and turns out 177 horsepower more than the current SLS AMG’s 6.2-liter V8 engine.

Two independent gearboxes providing direct drive to each axle is capable of directing power output to all four wheels managed by an AMG Torque Dynamics system, which can select individual wheels to send power based on traction. The system has three different modes: comfort, sport and sport plus.

The SLS Electric Drive is said to run 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds. To keep things planted, the SLS Electric Drive gets horizontally-mounted dampers and springs in place of the normal SLS AMG’s double wishbone setup. The electrified blue-chrome color and specific 19-inch front wheels, 20-inch rear, give the SLS Electric Drive a distinctive look as to not be at all confused by a petrol SLS AMG. The new SLS Coupe Electric Drive is expected to have a range of about 150 miles with “mixed” driving.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS Electric Drive is expected to start sales in Germany next year with a starting price of 416,500 euros.

Recently I had the chance to strap behind the wheel of the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster only to walk away with the urge to get it on a race track. Not having the time or resources to do such a thing at the moment, I have taken to the internet to find videos and test of the new SLS AMG Roadster tackling a track just to satisfy my curiosity as to how well the beastly German roadster handles itself. Tiff Needell, famous for his edgy test drive reactions to some of the fastest cars around, beats us to the punch when he pits the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster against the new Aston Martin DBS Volante.

Tiff takes both cars head on while edging them around a wet test course in the exclusive EVO magazine video below. Enjoy!

I am always down for good old fashion drag race especially when the contestants include a selection of new exotic cars. The guys at Autocar get their hands on a new Benz SLS AMG, Porsche GT2 RS and a Lamborghini Aventador all at the same time. What do they do with these three beastly cars? They do what many of you reading this would do; take them to an open runway (or drag strip) to find out which one is the fastest. Sure, anyone can look up the stats of these three cars and see what they will do on paper. But what is the fun in that? Hit up the video below to find out which car leads the pack.
