Mercedes-AMG G63 Battles Porsche 718 To Prove It’s More Aerodynamic Than A Brick 22

While the AMG-powered G-Wagen may have plenty of grunt at its disposal, it’s not exactly the type of car you want to be in if quick acceleration is your main priority.

It’s true that certain SUVs can actually keep up with a sports car like the Porsche 718, however, we’re talking about models that aren’t as heavy as the G63, have more power, and aren’t shaped like a gondola cabin.

As for what the numbers tell us, well, the Mercedes has more power and torque than the Porsche, sending its wheels no less than 570 PS and 760 Nm (560 lb-ft).

The 718 Boxster S on the other hand, packs 350 PS and 420 Nm (309 lb-ft) of torque, though weighs a lot less. In fact, the G63 is heavier by over a tonne, which does nothing to favor its power-to-weight ratio in this particular matchup.

Keep in mind however that this race features a rolling start, which sometimes can help cars that are at a weight disadvantage.

2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Facelift: Still The Best Car In The World? 21

The bid daddy of Mercedes has been thoroughly updated for MY2018 with new tech and powertrains but is this enough to fend off challengers in the luxury segment?

The German company kept visual changes to a minimum, with redesigned LED lights, a new radiator grille and bumpers being the main differences but the mechanical part of the update is a whole different story.

That’s because the new Mercedes S-Class is the company’s first model to feature their all-new straight-six powertrains, both in petrol and in diesel formats.

The 3.0-liter petrol engine can be found in the S 450 and S 500 models, producing 367hp and 435hp respectively. As for the 3.0-liter diesel unit, the figures are 286hp/442lb-ft for the S 350d and 340hp/516lb-ft for the S 400d. All models use the 9G-Tronic automatic transmission, bar the V12 models.

The adoption of the 48-volt electrical architecture also makes the S-Class compatible with a range of cutting-edge driver assistance features, including a semi-autonomous function.

The lovely interior mixes luxury and technology in a very impressive way, featuring a pair of new 12.3-inch digital displays that are housed under the same glass panel while the new steering wheel offers better ergonomics thanks to its touch-sensitive controls.

For many the Mercedes S-Class is the best automobile in the world but is this true for the latest model? Let’s find out what Carwow and Mat Watson have to say about it.

2018 Mercedes E-Class Convertible Lands In The U.S. From $66,300 20

Winter is right around the corner but that has stopped Mercedes from launching the 2018 E-Class Cabriolet in the United States.

Set to slot between the C- and S-Class convertibles, the E-Class Cabriolet is being billed as a luxury drop top that combines “pure, elegant design with long-distance comfort for four occupants.”

The car has a lot in common with the E-Class Coupe but the convertible is distinguished by a fabric soft top which is available in four different colors including black, red, dark blue and dark brown. Regardless of which color is selected, all of the roofs are fully automatic and feature insulation that promises to reduce wind and road noise.

Besides the fabric roof, the E-Class Cabriolet can be equipped with heat-reflecting leather upholstery, an Aircap wind deflector, and an Airscarf neck-level heating system.

The E-Class Cabriolet is currently on sale and pricing starts at $66,300. The entry-level model has a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 329 hp (245 kW) and 354 lb-ft (479 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission which allows the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds and return 20 mpg city / 26 mpg highway.

Customers can also order the E400 4MATIC Cabriolet which retails for $68,800. It has the same engine as the standard model but the addition of all-wheel drive enables the convertible to run from 0-60 mph in just 5.3 seconds.

Mercedes-Benz eVito Comes With An Electric Powertrain And A €39,990 Starting Price 20
Nov
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in Electric Vehicles, mercedes, Mercedes Citan, Mercedes Sprinter, Mercedes Vito - Viano, new cars, prices, Reports on 11 20th, 2017

Mercedes-Benz are expanding their commercial vehicle lineup with zero-emission versions of their vans.

The first product, an electric version of the Vito which was unveiled during the eDrive@VANs workshop in Berlin, Germany, is now hitting the market in Germany.

Called the eVito, the new electric Mercedes van represents the first step of their new strategy, with customers now able to pre-order it and prices starting from €39,990 (VAT not included). First deliveries are expected during the second half of 2018.

The new Mercedes-Benz eVito features a 41.4kWh battery pack that takes approximately six hours to charge, providing a range of around 150km (93miles). However, in low temperatures, and with a full load of more than 1,000kg (2,205lbs), the Mercedes-Benz eVito can travel for some 100km (62miles) between charges.

Customers will get to choose between two wheelbase versions: long and extra-long, which measure 5,140mm (202in) and 5,370mm (211in) respectively, and they will also have to select between two top speed options: 80km/h (50mph) and 120km/h (75mph).

Subsequent to the eVito, Mercedes-Benz will launch the eSprinter in 2019, followed by a pure electric version of the Citan, which shares its underpinnings with the Renault Kangoo. The French LCV is already offered with an EV powertrain, and comes with a NEDC range of up to 274km (170 miles).

“With our eDrive@VANs initiative, we’re showing that only holistic mobility solutions extending beyond the drive itself present a real alternative for commercial customers. The eVito is the starting point, and will be followed by a new-generation of our Sprinter, as well as the Citan”, said the Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans, Volker Mornhinweg.

2019 Mercedes G-Class Interior Shows Up In New Leaked Images 20

Even though we know what the dashboard of the 2019 G-Class looks like, these images provide a more in-depth look, since now we can also see the entire center console, door panels and some of the cabin.

A reader of ours spotted these pics on Auto Trade Moscow and Avto_msk’s Instagram accounts, and we’re really happy he did. For starters, we can now see that the lower console has a truly minimalist design, unlike what you get on the current G-Wagen.

The rest of the dashboard features the automaker’s modern switchgear, wide displays like you get on the E-Class and S-Class, plus a circular air vent design, replacing the old square ones.

As for the door panels, they seem to have grown in width over the current ones, which will definitely help those who like to rest their elbow on them while they drive. We can also see that the buttons for the power windows and electric mirrors (on the driver’s side) are positioned at a slight angle, directly on top of the panel itself.

Aside from the cabin, the 2019 G-Class is expected to boast improved on-road characteristics, with more power and better fuel efficiency courtesy of Mercedes’ latest straight-six turbocharged units. The AMG models on the other hand should feature twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engines.

Without any certainty, reports suggest that Mercedes will debut the new G-Class at the 2018 Detroit Motor Show in January.

Mercedes-Benz Teases Upcoming CLS Coupe 20
Nov
Posted by Brad Anderson in CLS, LA Auto Show, mercedes, Mercedes CLS, new cars, Reports on 11 20th, 2017

Mercedes-Benz has dropped a second teaser image of the 2019 CLS, this time previewing the vehicle’s interior.

The image shows that the new CLS’s dashboard will be dominated by a single screen that incorporates the gauge cluster and infotainment system. Unlike all other models in the company’s range, the CLS has a single, exceptionally-wide screen handling all of these functions, rather than two 12.3-inch screens placed next to each other. Furthermore, it also appears as if the CLS’s display will be slightly curved.

Beyond its bespoke screen, the image shows that the CLS will feature the brand’s familiar four air vents in the center of the dashboard, complete with mood lighting. Things are then capped off with carbon fiber.

Interestingly, Mercedes-Benz refers to the model as the ‘CLS Coupe’ in the Facebook post revealing the interior, perhaps suggesting that the model will adopt the ‘Coupe’ moniker in order to further differentiate it from the upcoming Mercedes-AMG sports sedan.

Yesterday, the German automaker previewed the front fascia of the new CLS. As spy shots suggested, the front is much sharper than the previous CLS and appears to have taken inspiration from the Concept A Sedan.

The new Mercedes-Benz CLS Coupe will be revealed to the world at the LA Auto Show on November 27.

Watch The 900 HP Brabus Rocket Launch And Nudge 350 Km/h! 19

Once upon a time, it was unheard of for a production car to do over 200 mph. Fortunately, we live in rapidly changing times and the 200-mph barrier is almost considered a benchmark which supercars and high-end sports cars must reach.

However, what is arguably more impressive than a two-door coupe reaching such speeds is a heavy luxury sedan doing the same, just like the latest Brabus Rocket 900.

As the name of the car implies, there is 900 HP on tap from the extensively modified twin-turbo 6.3-liter V12 engine and during a recent high-speed run, the super sedan reached an incredible 347 km/h (215 mph) and looked like it had even more speed in its back pocket.

Mercedes-Benz Teases 2019 CLS Ahead Of LA Show Premiere 18

Weekends are not usually chosen by automakers for revealing new products, but Mercedes-Benz has just released the first teaser image of its all-new CLS.

Accompanied by the tag “The Original Perfected”, it depicts the car head on, highlighting the LED headlights, but it’s not that hard to discern the overall shape, single-bar grille and lower fascia.

The third generation of Merc’s four-door saloon has been confirmed to debut at the upcoming LA Auto Show on November 27. Thanks to our spies, we have already seen it with minimal camo, so we know what to expect: a sleeker bodywork than that of the outgoing model with soft curves replacing the more angular design of the previous CLS, and a dashboard with circular vents and the long instrument binnacle that’s become a staple of Mercedes’ new models.

The 2019 CLS will be built on the platform of the E-Class, but it will be lower, longer and wider than its more traditional sibling. As far as the engine line-up is concerned, we expect two petrol units, a four-cylinder with 295 HP (220 kW) and an inline-six with 362 HP (270 kW), and two diesels, a 241 HP (180 kW) four and an inline-six in two states of tune, with 281 hp (209 kW) and 335 hp (250 kW) respectively.

AMG will of course take care of the performance versions and, as we have already revealed, apart from the range-topping 63 and 63S, it will also introduce the CLS 53, which will slot between the range topper and the lesser 43. This will use a tuned version of the new M256 inline-six that will reportedly churn out around 430 HP, ensuring that the new CLS will have all bases covered.

The CLK DTM Is A Race-Inspired Wild Ride From Merc’s Past 18

Posted by Sergiu Tudose in AMG, DTM, mercedes, Mercedes CLK, Mercedes Videos, reviews, video on 11 18th, 2017

Unless you’re very familiar with Mercedes’ old CLK lineup, the fact that something like this CLK DTM AMG even exists might surprise you.

The CLK DTM was a limited edition version of the regular CLK, built in 2004 to celebrate the model’s successful German Touring Car (DTM) campaign in 2003 that ended with a championship title.

Under the hood, there’s a 5.4-liter V8, much like the one on the CLK 55 AMG, massaged to deliver a whooping 580 horses and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque that’ll get you from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 4 seconds.

Before taking it on the road, reviewer Doug DeMuro first ran through this car’s long list of quirks and features. Among them we could note the not-so-round steering wheel, the major discrepancy in design between the upper dashboard and the new door panels, the steering wheel-mounted buttons and plenty more.

It’s also not the most practical car in the world, but then again, it was built with performance in mind, which this car certainly delivers, both in terms of acceleration as well as agility. In fact, DeMuro found the CLK DTM extremely engaging to drive, and had a huge smile on his face as the exhaust system sounded off. He also says that the steering feel is excellent, which doesn’t surprise us at all. But is it worth $450,000? Watch the video right after the jump and find out.

Mercedes Says Australia’s Luxury Car Tax Will Be Scrapped By 2020 18
Nov
Posted by Brad Anderson in Australia, mercedes, Reports on 11 18th, 2017

Australia’s infamous Luxury Car Tax could be on the way out, Mercedes-Benz claims.

Speaking to local publication Cars Guide, Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific public relations, product and corporate communications senior manager David McCarthy, said the Luxury Car Tax will be abolished in a new European Union free trade agreement.

“I feel confident (by) 2019/2020 there won’t be an LCT and that will have been an 11-year battle.

“LCT will be a casualty in an (European Union) EU free trade agreement. Anyone who tells you otherwise is believing in alternative facts – that’s the reality,” McCarthy said.

Australia’s Luxury Car Tax applies to all premium cars. If a vehicle’s recommended retail price exceeds $65,094 and the car consumes more than 7.0-liters of fuel per 100 km, a 33 per cent tax is incurred on every dollar over the $65,094 threshold. Any car over $75,526, regardless of its fuel consumption, is hit with the same 33 per cent tax.

According to McCarthy, it would make sense for the Australian government to abolish the Luxury Car Tax gradually.

“It’s currently 33 per cent. My personal view is that you want to implement it over a three-year period, so 33, 22, 11, zero.

“Otherwise, you’re going to have a lot of dislocation in the market and no one is going to shed a tear over OEMs suffering, but the government potentially would lose a lot of revenue,” he said.

2016 Ferrari F12tdf Vs 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster: Which Would You Buy? 17
Nov
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in auction, Classics, Ferrari, Ferrari F12berlinetta, Galleries, mercedes, used cars on 11 17th, 2017

One of them is a limited edition modern supercar, whereas the other is a classic open-top model that’s simply gorgeous. So what could they possibly have in common?

The answer is that both the Ferrari F12tdf and Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster are offered for sale by RMSothebys, at their New York auction that takes place on December 6, and both have a similar estimated selling price: $1.1-$1.4 million and $1.25-$1.5 million, respectively.

Introduced as the spiritual successor to the 599 GTO in 2015, the Ferrari F12tdf came in a limited run of 799 units. It benefits from a number of aerodynamic enhancements over the regular F12 Berlinetta, and it also packs an extra punch, with its 6.3-liter naturally aspirated V12 making 780PS (770hp) and 705Nm (520lb-ft) of torque.

This particular example was shipped to Long Island Ferrari new in 2016, and since then, it has been driven for less than 400 miles (644km). It still has a factory warranty available until July 2019, and it’s covered by the Ferrari Genuine Maintenance program until July 2023.

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster, on the other hand, is the convertible version of the Gullwing. It debuted at the 1957 Geneva Motor Show and was produced in 1,858 units.

The auction house doesn’t provide more details about this 1958-made car, except that it retains the original matching chassis, body, engine, and drivetrain and was outfitted with several options from new. Still, looking at the pictures we can see its pristine condition that could help it re-achieve its bedroom door poster status.

Now, each one is extremely desirable for its own reasons, but if you had the opportunity to bid for one of the two, which would it be?

Audi’s Holiday Parking Lot Ad Takes Subtle Swipe At Mercedes 17
Nov
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in audi, audi rs3, Audi RS7, Audi Videos, commercials, Funny, mercedes, video on 11 17th, 2017

It looks like Audi just couldn’t help themselves from taking another shot at Mercedes-Benz owners in their latest ad for the holidays, titled “Parking Lot.”

The ad itself is pretty fun, fast-paced and realistic, in the sense that trying to find a spot at a shopping mall during holiday season can be an even bigger nightmare than what’s being portrayed here.

Starring in the commercial are two RS-powered Audis, specifically an RS3 sedan and an RS7. Safe to say, there’s not a lot of room to put any significant power down inside a parking garage.

Yet, that’s exactly what the guys behind the wheel did, while trying to find a spot and get their shopping on. Eventually, their mood goes from calm, to stressed out, and in the end, quite desperate.

As for what Audi thinks of Mercedes-Benz owners, midway through the commercial you can see a confused elderly man trying to find his car by pressing the buttons on his key. Then, behind him, you’ll see the trunk open on a Mercedes-Benz saloon, a bit out of focus.

The look of astonishment on the Audi driver’s face is pretty priceless though.
