McLaren Launches Winter Wheel And Tire Set For Sports Series Models 27

McLaren has teamed up with Pirelli to make sure that the only sliding around you’ll be doing this winter in your Sports Series supercar will be on purpose.

Together, the two companies launched this lightweight alloy wheel and winter tire set, which can be ordered effective immediately for the British automaker’s Sports Series cars.

The alloys have a 14-spoke Stealth design, and are fitted with Pirelli MC Sottozero 3 winter tires that incorporate McLaren’s tire pressure monitoring system. The set comes fully assembled and ready to fit the 540C, 570S, 570GT and the new 570S Spider.

“Choosing the right type of tyre to suit seasonal weather and road conditions should be a priority for every McLaren driver wanting to enjoy their car safely all-year round,” said McLaren aftersales director, Carl Whipp. “Regardless of whether winter tires are a legal requirement, having them ready and waiting on a second set of wheels will allow customers to switch to the optimum tyre choice quickly and easily when winter arrives.”

Thanks to a high drainage tread pattern, these tires should reduce the chance of hydroplaning while providing maximum possible grip. They should also be effective on both wet and dry roads when temperatures drop below 7 degrees Celsius (44 degrees Fahrenheit).

As for performance, the Pirelli MC Sottozero 3 tires could reduce the cold-weather stopping distance of your McLaren Sports Series vehicle by 10% in the wet, and by 20% on snowy roads.

MV Agusta Brutale Pirelli Edition Is The Most Italian Bike Ever 6
Nov
Posted by Carscoops Staff in motorcycles, MV Agusta, Pirelli on 11 6th, 2017

When we think of Italian motorcycles, we tend to imagine Ducatis. But those aren’t the only Italian motorcycles. Not by a long shot.

There’s Aprilia, of course, but also marques like Bimota, Moto Guzzi, and MV Agusta – which has come out with what could very well be the most Italian motorcycle we’ve seen yet.

Celebrating their name tire-supply deal, MV Agusta teamed up with Pirelli Design to create the Brutale 800 RR Pirelli edition. It’s based on Agusta’s naked street-fighter bike, wearing Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP rubber on 17-inch wheels – the one at the back measuring half a foot wide.

The bike’s done up in matte black with either red or blue trim, extending not only to the motorcycle’s body graphics but also to the sidewalls of the tires, just like Pirelli does for Formula One.

This version of the Brutale packs an 800-cc three-cylinder engine with counter-rotating crankshaft to produce 116 horsepower. It’s slated to be revealed at the upcoming EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, where it’s bound to emerge as the most Italian collaboration put on wheels since Lamborghini crafted a similar special edition out of its Aventador.

Chris Harris, Rally Co-Driver: Video 7

Chris Harris rides shotgun in a Lancia Delta S4

Chris Harris would be the first to admit he makes a lousy passenger. He also doesn’t attend tire product launches, since his self-described job is reviewing cars, not components. Every rule has its exception, and when Harris was invited to the launch of the new Pirelli P7 Corsa Classic vintage rallying tire, he jumped at the chance.

Why would Harris attend an event where he’s merely a passenger and not the driver? Why would he waste time on a tire launch that isn’t even for contemporary sports cars? Two words sum it all up: hero worship.

To demonstrate how good the new P7 Corsa Classic is, Pirelli arranged ride-alongs with Markku Alén and Juha Kankkunen. Those names may not be familiar to those of us on this side of the pond, but Alén drove in WRC competition for Fiat, Lancia, Subaru and Toyota from 1973 to 1993. Only Sebastien Loeb has more stage wins in WRC, although Alén never earned a WRC championship.

Kankkunen, on the other hand, won the championship four times, driving for Toyota, Peugeot, Lancia, Ford, Subaru and Hyundai. In other words, both drivers have forgotten more about car control at speed than most of us have ever learned.

The cars that Harris would be chauffeured around in were special, too, including the legendary Lancia Stratos and Lancia Delta S4. The Stratos’ short wheelbase and mid-engine, rear drive layout quickly earned the car respect among drivers, since it was blindingly fast and easy to rotate, but utterly unforgiving of mistakes. The Delta, which was a bit more balanced, packed as much as 800 horsepower in various trims, making all-wheel-drive a necessity.

Of the experience, Harris said it might just be the best day of his working life. We certainly wouldn’t argue with that point.

Ferrari 458 Challenge Spotted Racing Around Ferrari HQ & Fiorano (Video) 5

The Ferrari 458 Challenge has been spotted doing some testing on the Fiorano track and around the Ferrari headquarters. A video that has emerged online via YouTube brings in not many details except for the noise it makes, and we love that growl.

We get to understand that this racer machine, a take off from the 458 Italia built for Ferrari’s single-racing series, comes sporting a 4499cc V8 engine that returns 570 PS (562 hp / 419 kW) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque. Specs suggest that this is coupled to a modified dual-clutch gearbox with ‘F1-Trac’ for any kind of track condition. T

Built with a race suspension that comprises solid aluminum bushings, stiffer springs, and single-rate dampers and Brembo CCM2 brakes, the car sports 19-inch wheels that run on Pirelli rubber. Extremely thin body panels, carbon fiber components and Lexan windows are being attributed to the reduced weight.

The video shows the 458 Challenge speeding up the Fiorano test track in 1 minute and 16.5 seconds. Here’s the video:

The engine specifications for the One-77, Aston Martin’s supercar, have been released. Contrary to earlier estimates, the One-77 will have a 7.3-liter V12, rated at 750 bhp (559 kW / 760 PS) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque. Not a word has been officially heard on performance figures, but a pre-production prototype has earlier hit a top speed of 220 mph (355 km/h)

According to earlier reports, the One-77 features a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and an inboard double wishbone suspension with Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve damping. Other appealing features include a six-speed robotized manual gearbox, carbon ceramic brakes, and specially developed Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.

Word is that production will be limited to 77 units, with the first deliveries scheduled to come out early next year.Video below:
