Volkswagen’s BlueSport concept – the production version – is set to be released in the early months of 2014. The model will reportedly be built on the new MMB platform, which uses several Golf suspension components to keep expenses down.

This platform will also be seen on the Audi R4 and the Porsche 356/914 Revival. No details were given about the engine – but it would be safe to assume that a four-cylinder power plant would be placed under the hood – like a turbocharged 1.6-liter with 220 hp (164 kW / 223 PS).

Six-speed manual and seven-speed DSG transmission choices are likely to be offered. There is also some speculation about the car making an appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013.

Audi R4 Pictures Sneak Peek Shows Similarities with e-tron 20

A set of photos has surfaced on a blog dedicated to the Audi R4. The blog has claimed that these are pictures of the unreleased car, taken just before the car was covered up following a stunt in the Austrian Alps. The stunt had the car being airlifted by a helicopter around the mountain range.

The car in the photos shows several similarities to the Audi e-tron, which it is supposedly based on, and also some new developments.

The pictures reveal that the lenses that have been installed look more traditional that the e-tron, with the shape of the headlights staying almost the same.

This change results in the cluster of front lights looking like a mix of the lamps on the A1 and those on the e-tron.  The front lip spoiler is much less obvious, as is the rear, which has been restyled.

Adding to the superb visual are the seven double-spoke alloy wheels, which are se over large, drilled discs and big red brake calipers – a marked change from the usual concept car wheels.

Insiders say that the Audi R4 will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show in a near-production state. Some reports say it is likely that Audi may show it off as a Spyder as well as a coupe.
