The Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3 16v was not exactly cheap when it first came out, in 1983, and it certainly isn’t almost 34 years later, especially if it's in top notch condition, like this example, which is the newer and more powerful 2.5 16v edition.

Cosworth Building ‘Ultimate Performance’ Genesis Coupe For SEMA 5

The Cosworth Racing Genesis Series, coming to SEMA 2012

In case you needed another reason to make a pilgrimage to Las Vegas for this year’s SEMA show, here it is: Hyundai has teamed up with new development partner Cosworth to create what it’s billing as the “ultimate” Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Called the Cosworth Genesis Racing Series (CGRS), the satin blue coupe is designed to deliver performance gains without sacrificing driveability, making it the best compromise between a street car and a track day car.

Starting with Hyundai’s 3.8-liter V-6, Cosworth adds its own intake and exhaust systems, installs its own ECU programming and improves thermal management to boost output to 389 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. That’s a gain of 41 horsepower and 30 pound-feet of torque compared to a stock 3.8-liter Genesis Coupe.

Further enhancing performance, the CGRS gets a Cosworth big brake system and a Cosworth performance suspension. Details on either upgrade are lacking, and Cosworth is best known for its engine tuning, so we suspect the suspension and brake upgrades come from a third-party manufacturer.

Aside from the in-your-face satin blue paint, exterior changes are subtle to preserve the Genesis Coupe’s styling. Add-ons include a new front bumper with brake cooling ducts, a front splitter, side skirts, a diffuser, a trunk spoiler, unique wheels and Cosworth logos. Unlike many SEMA concepts, this is one you could drive to work without embarrassment.

Inside, the CGRS gets a Cosworth-logo steering wheel, shift knob, machined pedals and shift boot. Further styling tweaks include two-tone seats and a two-tone interior treatment.

We hope this is the start of a lasting relationship between the two companies, because a Cosworth-engined production Genesis Coupe would certainly get our attention.

B1 & B2 Grand Turismo: Russia’s First Sports Cars 17
Sep
Posted by Alex Ion in Automotive News, B1, B2, Cosworth, Frankfurt Auto Show, Grand Turismo, Marussia on 09 17th, 2010

The B1 and B2 Grand Turismo models from Russia’s Marussia Motors have started the production process, after a grand opening of the company’s first showroom in Moscow. Marussia is well known as a manufacturer of specialty sports cars. These will be Russia’s first sports cars to come into the market.

The B1’s original design had been shown in the latter part of 2008, and had a hybrid powerplant, which was subsequently eliminated from the vehicle.

The B2 has been inspired by jetfighters. Both of the models feature mid-mounted 3.5-liter V6 from Cosworth, which is available in three power levels: 300, 360 ad 420 hp.

The word from Marussia is that this power level is competitive, especially considering that the weight of the vehicle is 1100 kg (2,425 lbs).

This ratio gives the car the ability to zoom to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. Reports say that the car has met very stringent safety measures and also that there will be interesting revelations from the company at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2011.

Reportedly, Marussia has already got a fair amount of orders, and has plans to manufacture about 10,000 cars a year. The vehicles are priced at 100,000 euros. A third model the Marussia F2 SUV is set to be launched in the spring of 2011.
