All-New Audi RS7 Sportback Test Mule Can’t Escape The Camera Lens 15
Dec
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in audi, Audi RS7, Audi Scoops, Hybrids, Scoops on 12 15th, 2017

With Audi’s new-generation A7 Sportback already unveiled, the next logical step for Ingolstadt is to roll out the range-topping RS7.

The new RS7 is tipped to hit Audi’s showroom doors sometime in late 2018 and will most likely powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with over 600 HP.

Rumor has it that a hybrid version using a similar drivetrain as the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid sporting as much as 700 HP could also join the range, but that remains to be seen.

Visually, this mule is a dead giveaway for the RS7 Sportback. Despite it saying ‘A7’ and ‘TFSI quattro’ on the hatch, you can see the wheel arch extensions as well as the large oval exhaust tips that show this is no ordinary A7.

Since this is a test mule and not a true prototype that’s hiding its styling under heavy camo, we can expect to see more styling changes to the production car, such as a sportier rear diffuser and chunkier front bumper, for example.

With Mercedes dropping the CLS 63 nameplate on their latest generation car, the all-new RS7 will find itself in a fight against the Mercedes-AMG GT 4 come 2019.

Audi Preparing 300HP SQ2 For Next Year, Hotter RS Might Be On The Cards 15
Dec
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in audi, Audi Q2, Reports on 12 15th, 2017

Audi’s smallest crossover, the Q2, is reportedly set to receive a performance version. Coming as early as next year with the SQ2 moniker, according to Autocar, it’s expected to use the 306hp 2.0-liter four-banger of the S3 Sportback, albeit with slightly less power that’ll probably sit below the 300hp mark.

Its size and performance will place it against the likes of its cousin in the VW Group, the Volkswagen T-Roc R, which will most likely be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine sourced from the Golf R and making 306hp, channeled to the AWD system through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Bystanders will get to tell the SQ2 from lesser versions thanks to a more aggressive body kit with redesigned front and rear bumpers, larger wheels and a quad-tailpipe exhaust system.

Nevertheless, the SQ2 might not be the range-topping model of the family, as it’s said to be joined, at some point, by an even hotter version that’ll be named the RSQ2. We have no solid info yet, but if it materializes then it should rock the crossover segment, especially if, as the British publication suggests, it gets the 2.5-liter turbocharged five of the RS3 Sportback, in which it pumps out 362hp.

Audi E-Tron Looks To Electrify The Booming Crossover Segment 14
Dec
Posted by Michael Gauthier in audi, Audi Scoops, Electric Vehicles, Scoops on 12 14th, 2017

Audi is preparing to launch an onslaught of electric vehicles and the company’s upcoming E-Tron Quattro was recently spotted undergoing testing in Europe.

Previewed by the E-Tron Quattro concept, the production model has a familiar design but adopts a less dramatic front fascia. Moving further back, we can see plastic body cladding, a rakish windscreen, and slender mirrors with integrated turn signals. Designers also installed roof rails and a gently sloping roofline which meets a tailgate-mounted spoiler.

Speaking of the rear of the crossover, we can see a heavily raked window and a relatively upright tailgate. Other notable features include LED taillights and no exhaust system.

The E-Tron Quattro will go into production next year at the company’s plant in Brussels, Belgium. Audi hasn’t said much about the crossover but previously stated it will slot in between the Q5 and Q7. It also promises to deliver an intoxicating blend of “sportiness, driving dynamics and efficiency.”

Performance specifications remain unconfirmed but the concept had three electric motors which could temporarily produce 496 hp (370 kW) and over 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. This enabled the all-wheel drive concept to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.6 seconds before hitting a limited top speed of 130 mph (210 km/h). Furthermore, the crossover had a range in excess of 310 miles (500 km) and could be recharged in as little as 50 minutes.

Audi CEO Says Company Is Ready To Move On From Diesel Scandal 14
Dec
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in audi, diesel, Electric Vehicles, Reports on 12 14th, 2017

Audi is planning on shutting down the very same task force they set up in order to find out how many of their vehicles featured defeat devices amid VW’s diesel scandal.

According to company CEO, Rupert Stadler, Audi is on the home stretch as most of its diesel engines have been fixed, reports Autonews.

The automaker has retrofitted up to 850,000 TDI engines in Europe as well as a few other countries on other continents. “We are at an estimated 80 percent,” said Stadler. “We are gradually emerging from the crisis mode and are moving back into regular operation.”

By 2025, Audi plans on having over 20 partly or fully-electrified vehicles in its lineup, with EV sales accounting for a third of their total deliveries. Stadler added that more than 10 of those over 20 models will be purely electric.

The first new-generation EV from Ingostadt will be the e-tron SUV, scheduled to be unveiled at the Audi Summit in Brussels, in August 2018. Meanwhile, with Audi and Porsche cooperating on electric mobility, we could see a pure electric Audi Q5 and a new-gen Porsche Macan break cover in 2021.

Also, with CO2 regulations tightening in Europe in 2020, Audi can’t afford to miss any of its targets, because doing so by just 11 grams of CO2/km, would cost the automaker a billion euros each year. “Non-fulfillment is not an option,” concluded Stadler.

New Audi A8 Becomes A Tad Sportier With Fresh Optional Bits 14
Dec
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in audi, Audi A8, new cars on 12 14th, 2017

While Audi enthusiasts continue to wait for the new S8 to arrive, the Ingolstadt-based car manufacturer has launched a new exterior sport package for their flagship saloon.

Priced at €1,950 ($2,294) on the A8 50 TDI and available across Europe from the end of January 2018, it adds an aluminum clip to the grille, and clear contours around the air inlets, which also get honeycomb grilles and vertical struts.

Slightly wider side sills and a tweaked rear bumper with a rhombus-grille insert and contrasting diffuser are also available, as is an aluminum strip on the body’s lower edging.

The seats have been revised as well, with what the automaker calls “optically integrated headrests” that feature electric height adjustment, in addition to the pneumatic seat and backrest side bolster adjustment. The latter are said to be approximately 15mm (0.6in) more deeply contoured than before.

Customers that just need to have these seats, which are compatible with all engine versions and both wheelbase lengths, will have to pay €4,520 ($5,318) for them, although before signing their name on the dotted line, they will also have to choose from five basic colors for the interior.

Audi Decides Against Selling Ducati 13
Dec
Posted by Brad Anderson in audi, Ducati, motorcycles, Reports on 12 13th, 2017

Audi chief executive Rupert Stadler has revealed that the company has abandoned its plans to sell Italian motorcycle brand Ducati.

The automaker had planned to sell Ducati in order to free up cash but speaking with Reuters recently, Stadler revealed that Audi’s closer relationship to Porsche and steps to reduce costs by roughly $11.8 billion will allow it to retain ownership of the motorcycle brand.

“I can assure you that Ducati belongs to the Audi family. Ducati is the perfect implementation of our premium philosophy in the world of motorbikes,” Stadler said, defiantly.

Audi purchased Ducati in 2012 and as recently as May this year, there were reportedly four companies looking to make bids at purchasing the brand. However, confirmation from Stadler that no sale is on the cards ends almost two years of rampant rumors suggesting such.

Stadler added that the costs of Audi shifting towards zero-emissions makes it vitally important to retain ownership of Ducati and Lamborghini, two companies that are profitable.

“Looking after a premium bouquet is as difficult as the work of a gardener. Therefore I am pleased with every new flower, with every promising new branch,” Stadler said.

New Audi A6 Reportedly Coming With Level 3 Autonomous Driving Next Year 13
Dec
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in audi, Audi A6, Audi RS6, Audi S6, Autonomous, Geneva Motor Show, PHEV, Reports on 12 13th, 2017

Audi have marketed the new generation A8 as being the first car on the market equipped with Level 3 autonomous driving, and now they’re going to implement the technology into the upcoming A6 as well.

Expected to debut next year, probably at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show in March, according to reports Autocar, the new A6 will be able to handle most driving aspects, but the driver must be ready to take control at any time.

This would give it a boost over its usual contenders such as the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5-Series, and it could also adopt its larger sibling’s remote parking feature, which allows users to operate the car via a remote, even if there isn’t anyone inside.

Visually, the next-gen Audi A6 will borrow some cues from the A8. It will also get some styling elements with the newly introduced A7, with which it shares its underpinnings.

Customers will be able to choose from a variety of engines that will include a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, 3.0-liter V6, and 4.0-liter V8, alongside two possible PHEVs. In 2019, Audi will introduce the S6 that’s said to feature more than 450hp, while the range-topping RS6 won’t arrive beforel 2020 and could adopt the same PHEV powertrain as the Porsche Panamera S-E Hybrid, which develops 680PS (670hp) and 850Nm (626lb-ft) of torque from its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and electric motor combo.

Audi Sport Boss Confirms Electrified Model Coming By The End Of 2020 12
Dec
Posted by Michael Gauthier in audi, Electric Vehicles, Reports on 12 12th, 2017

The Volkswagen Group is embracing electrification and Audi will play a key role in the company’s push as the automaker has already announced plans to launch more than 20 plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles by 2025.

Given the company’s move towards eco-friendly powertrains, it comes as little surprise that Audi Sport boss Stephan Winkelmann recently confirmed the brand’s performance models will also adopt electrification.

Speaking to Autocar, Winkelmann said Audi Sport will launch its first electrified model by the end of 2020. The outgoing executive declined to say which vehicle he was talking about but confirmed the model will be followed by additional electrified vehicles in the future.

Electrified vehicles will play an important role in Audi Sport’s future but Winkelmann said fans of conventional engines needn’t worry. As he explained, “We are not forgetting our icons, so we will continue to build them.” The executive said we can expect a handful of turbocharged models over the next three years and they will remain part of the company’s lineup as long as regulations allow it.

Winkelmann went on to reveal we can expect more high-performance crossovers in the future. He believes they will help the division to increase its sales and visibility in Asia and North America.

Audi R8 V10 Plus Vs McLaren 570S In Fight Of Everyday Supercars 12
Dec
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in audi, Audi R8, Audi Videos, Drag-Racing, mclaren, McLaren 570S, McLaren Videos, video on 12 12th, 2017

Both the Audi R8 and the McLaren 570, be it in S or GT version, are marketed by their manufacturers as combining supercar performance (and looks…) with everyday usability, which makes them natural rivals.

Before you give us your best guess regarding which one of these two cars is faster in a straight line, you should know how they stack up on paper.

The Audi R8 V10 Plus has bragging rights when it comes to power, sending 610 PS (601 HP) to all four wheels, together with 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque. The output and the grip should, naturally, give it an advantage off the line.

Then again, McLaren has been known to be a bit conservative when it comes to its models’ power output figures, and the 570S is already pretty impressive in that department with 570 PS / 562 HP and 600 Nm (442 lb-ft) of torque, according to the manufacturer.

Both cars can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.2 seconds, and max out upwards of 328 km/h (203 mph) – the Audi will actually do 330 km/h (205 mph) flat.

Thanks to Archie Hamilton Racing, we get to see the two supercars go at each other multiple times, from a standing start as well as from a roll. As for the winner, sorry, but there are no spoilers here; you’ll have to watch the video to find out.

Should You Supercharge Your Audi R8? 9
Dec
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in audi, Audi R8, Audi Videos, reviews, tuning, video on 12 9th, 2017

If you find yourself having to “settle” for the non-Plus version of the current-generation Audi R8, adding VF Engineering’s VF800 bolt-on supercharger kit could make you feel a lot better.

As the system’s nomenclature suggests, you get a total of 800 crank HP on 91 octane fuel, making the car’s 540 stock horses a thing of the past. You also get 610 lb-ft (827 Nm) of torque.

As Matt Farah explains, these VF kits are designed to work on stock vehicles and unless you really put your foot down, you’ll hardly ever notice you’re driving a car with way more power than its manufacturer initially intended for it to have.

To put it plainly, this R8 is really, really fast. Its Eaton TVS2300 3-lobe roots supercharger provides what the tuner calls “lag-free instant punch” from as little as 2,300 rpm. This upgrade is also reversible, and costs $29,995, on top of the car, of course.

After blasting his way through the canyons behind the wheel of this tuned Audi R8, Farah went on to call the car “incredibly fast”, yet “civil and refined.”

Here Are The 15 Safest Cars For 2018, And Only One Is American, IIHS Says 7
Dec

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has revealed 15 vehicles qualified for their Top Safety Pick+ award following the decision to strengthen the requirements to include “good-rated headlights and good or acceptable passenger-side protection in small overlap front crashes.”

The winners were predominately German, Korean and Japanese cars including the Kia Forte sedan and Soul as well as the Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport. The list also includes the popular Toyota Camry as well as several different Subaru models including the Impreza, Legacy, Outback, and WRX.

Several luxury vehicles came away with the Top Safety Pick+ award and they include the BMW 5-Series, Lincoln Continental (the only American brand to make the list), and Genesis G80 and G90. Mercedes also made the list thanks to the E-Class sedan and GLC crossover.

47 vehicles earned the Top Safety Pick award and the updated requirements mean they all have either good or acceptable headlights. You can view the full list here but notable compact vehicles that earned the award include the Mazda3, Hyundai Elantra, and Toyota Corolla. Other award winning sedans including the Alfa Romeo Giulia, Audi A4, BMW 3-Series, Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata, and Nissan Altima.

On the crossover side, the IIHS gave honors to the Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Mazda CX-5, and Mitsubishi Outlander. Other notable models included the Honda Pilot, Lexus RX, Subaru Forester, Toyota RAV4, and Volvo XC60.

Trucks and minivans had a poor showing overall but the Chrysler Pacifica as well as the Honda Odyssey and Ridgeline made the cut.

The decision to increase the requirements was made because the IIHS says it “became clear that some manufacturers weren’t paying sufficient attention” to offering effective headlights and a safe environment for passengers.

According to IIHS President Adrian Lund, “Drivers expect that their passengers, who are often family, will be protected just as well as they are.” He added, “Manufacturers have been taking this issue seriously since we first shed light on it, and we’re confident that good small overlap protection will become the norm on the passenger side, just as it has on the driver side.”

Revised 2018 Audi TT Coupe Proves That Rally Lights Go With Everything 7
Dec
Posted by Michael Karkafiris in audi, Audi Scoops, Audi TT, Scoops on 12 7th, 2017

Following our previous scoop on the facelifted TT RS, our spies caught a regular TT prototype being tested in cold-weather conditions, wearing the traditional pair of projector lights.

The Audi TT will receive a mid-life update sometime next year, focusing more on adding the latest technologies the firm has to offer.

The limited amount of camouflage on the prototype also means that you shouldn’t expect any major visual changes; just the usual refresh of the LED lights, along with some small tweaks on bumpers, side sills and a new pattern for the mesh grille design.

The cabin will be updated of course with Audi’s latest tech features, including the newest version of the Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster, as well as new trim and color options. Audi’s semi-autonomous systems will also debut in the TT as well.

As for the engines, there’s really not much too talk about; Audi will keep the current range on offer, including the regular 2.0-liter TFSI and TDI units while there are some reports talking about the introduction of the VW Group’s 1.5-liter TSI engine as a new base model. The range-topping TT RS will stick with the 2.5-liter turbo five-cylinder unit.

The revised version of the popular Audi TT is expected to hit the European market in 2018.

VW And Audi Slash Prices And Give Discounts On Repaired 3.0L Diesels 6
Dec
Posted by Brad Anderson in audi, diesel, Reports, SUV, VW on 12 6th, 2017

Looking to jump behind the wheel of a heavily discounted VW or Audi? Well, now could be the perfect time.

Cars Direct has discovered that both VW and Audi are offering discounts of up to 25 per cent off MSRP for 3.0-liter diesel SUVs which have been repaired in the wake of the company’s dieselgate scandal.

From now until January 2, VW has announced discounts of 25 per cent off MSRP on 2014 models, 20 per cent off 2015 models, and 15 per cent off for 2016 models, for those 3.0-liter diesels that have been repaired.

As for Audi, the German carmaker has announced 20 per cent off all of its 2015 Q7 TDI models, a vehicle that originally had a base MSRP of $53,400 before destination charges. Alongside this deal, Audi is offering 1.9 per cent APR for 66 months and a 72-month rate of 2.49 per cent, two deals that might prove enough for some to take a look at their diesel models.

Diesels may have fallen out of favor among some consumers but these deals could be the perfect early Christmas deal for certain shoppers.
