BMW recently announced plans to offer 25 electrified models by 2025 and it appears the company is going to need all of these eco-friendly vehicles to help offset a massive onslaught on new M models.

According to Autocar, BMW is preparing to launch 26 M and M Performance vehicles over the next few years. The M8 will be unveiled next year but the real push will begin when the all-new M3 debuts at Frankfurt Motor Show in 2019. As BMW M boss Frank van Meel explained, “The M3 is a crucial car for BMW M … it wasn’t the first fully fledged M car but it continues to stand for everything the brand is based upon.”

The report says the new M3 will ride on the CLAR platform and feature more aluminum and high-strength steel. The car is also slated to adopt a number of carbon fiber components to ensure it weighs less than the M3 CS which recently debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Despite rumors of a hybrid powertrain, sources told the publication we can expect a conventional twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that produces around 465 hp (346 kW). The car will reportedly be offered with a six-speed manual and an optional eight-speed automatic transmission. Regardless of which gearbox is selected both are slated to send power to the rear-wheels as the rumored all-wheel drive system was reportedly deemed too heavy and expensive.

Besides the M3, we can expect M versions of the X3, X4, and Z4. They are slated to be joined by M Performance variants of the 3-Series, 4-Series, X2, and X7.

BMW Tipped To Slot M850i Into The Middle Of Its New 8 Series 19

Bimmerphiles are eagerly awaiting the return of the 8 Series – and that day is fast approaching. But in the meantime, we have some fresh news and photos to share.

According to BMW Blog, the German automaker is preparing to slot an M Sport variant into the forthcoming 8 Series lineup in between the standard 840i and the full-on M8.

The rumors are still far from confirmed, but word has it that the M850i could pack over 500 horsepower from its twin-turbo V8, accompanied by a stiffer suspension, carbon-fiber roof, and other go-fast goodies.

The new 8 Series is slated to enter production sometime next year in Dingolfing, Germany. Our first glimpse at the finished production, however, may come in the form of the M8 GTE that’s set to compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The latter kicks off with the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January, preceded by a full test session at the same Florida circuit early in December – now less than two weeks away.

In preparation, BMW has undertaken a rigorous test regime of its own, shaking down its new racer at Paul Ricard in France for 24 hours straight. The images you see here were captured during that test session, an give us another glimpse at the competition version of the sports tourer to follow.

BMW 850i And M8 Roar During Track Testing 17

A pair of prototypes for the upcoming BMW 850i and M8 have been filmed testing at the Nurburgring. Of the duo, it is certainly the impending M8 that will leave BMW enthusiasts sweating and for good reason.

The car is expected to adopt the same running gear as the latest M5, meaning a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine with 600 hp and roughly 553 lb-ft of torque. Like the M5, the M8 should also receive an advanced all-wheel drive system with an option to turn the two-door into a tire-smoking, rear-wheel drive monster at the press of a button.

As for the second 8-Series prototype, it is reportedly the 850i but its identity is a little harder to verify. Nonetheless, it too should feature a V8 with forced-induction and somewhere in the region of 500 hp.

A reveal date for the 8-Series range, including the M8, can be expected for March’s Geneva Motor Show.

New BMW M8’s Interior Spied For The First Time 3

Whether we’re talking about the regular 8-Series or the M8, this marks the first time we’ve gotten a glimpse of the interior as the car begins to near production.

While the overall cabin design is still very much an unknown, we can see the seats, the steering wheel and the center console (partly), which does indeed appear to have the same configuration of buttons and switches we saw on the 8-Series Concept, although a bit less extravagant.

The steering wheel is pretty similar to that of a 7-Series, but that could very well change once it’s all said and done. Also, the gauge cluster cover does resemble what we saw on the concept, clearly a positive.

The M8 remains extremely well camouflaged. We can tell it’s got the bigger intakes, quad exhaust system, bigger brakes and so on, although it’s not wearing its production headlights, which we already saw two months ago on a regular 8-Series prototype.

As for performance, we can expect plenty of muscle from its 4.4-liter TwinPower turbo V8, with around 600 HP and over 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) having their say under acceleration.

BMW’s all-new 8-Series range, which includes both the M8 and M8 Convertible, will arrive in showrooms sometime next year.
