The North American version of Chevrolet Cruze is to get a diesel variant too. The sedan was launched in the regional market just a few months back and also has its global presence in over 60 countries across the globe featuring both the petrol and diesel options.

Currently, the North American market gets only the petrol version, GM says that the 2013 model will have a diesel twin side by side. The company would start proceedings on the new engine by next year itself.

The car will use the same 2.0-liter diesel engine, as in its global versions. Detroit is now witnessing test runs of the diesel Cruze.

Although the output figures of the new engine are not known, its siblings in the markets around the world using the same capacity engine produces around 147 hp and 235 feet-pounds of torque.

The Cruze CDX in Australia returns 34 miles to the gallon in combined city and highway driving using six speed automatic similar to the petrol version Cruze Eco which gives 30 mpg combined.

he 2012 Cruze will get a keyless-push button start as an option on mid range LT model and standard on high end LTZ.

Opel Baby-Antara Spied 10

Based on the current Corsa, a handful of spy photos of the much-awaited Opel baby-Antara are here. The new mini SUV will fall behind the Antara in the Opel model lineup. The mini SUV is being built by GM Daewoo in Korea, wherein most Chevrolet European models – like Cruze and Beat – are made.

The developing model could inherit a lot of technology from the recently launched Chevrolet Sonic (North America) which in turn is based on the Chevrolet Aveo (Europe).

Counting on that, the baby-Antara which is yet to get an official name could choose a 1.4 liter turbocharged engine developing 140 PS (138 bhp / 103 kW) and 148 lb-ft (200 Nm) of torque coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox. It could be equipped with front wheel drive and all wheel drive and will be available in both petrol and diesel.

The forklift portrayed in the spy photos is very much disguised, however, the Opel logo at the center of the faceplate is clearly seen. The design of the headlights seems to follow that of the Astra.

This small SUV will definitely bring a fresh air to the Corsa family, the arrival is scheduled for 2012.

General Motors has revealed the 5-door Chevrolet Cruze hatchback and the car will be officially introduced at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. With the introduction of the new car, customers have an alternative body style to the traditional sedan.

With its attractive sweeping coupe roofline and short overhangs at both the front and rear, the new Cruze hatchback has the same dynamic ‘stance’ as the sedan. It is built using the new body-frame integral system (BFI) which is complemented by the final tuning to chassis components.

The BFI system provides greater stability. The car comes with a cargo capacity of nearly 400 liters and will feature 60/40 split rear seating.

The car is planned to be launched across Europe in mid-September and soon after will be seen on other markets as well. The prices will be announced a few days before the launch.  More pictures below:
