Minor Accident Sparks Road Rage Shooting In Houston, One Bystander Injured 8

Guns and road rage are a bad combination and it becomes considerably worse when the two mix in heavy traffic.

The latest incident occurred in Houston, Texas following a minor accident between a Jeep Wrangler and a Nissan Rogue. Instead of getting out of their vehicles to exchange insurance information, ABC News says both drivers emerged and began shooting at each other after a brief discussion.

While the initial exchange wasn’t caught on video, a crew from KTRK ABC 13 happened to be at a nearby Starbucks and raced to the scene once they heard gunfire at around 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Despite their quick action, the crew arrived shortly after the last shots were fired but the two drivers continued to threaten each other with guns drawn.

Unfortunately, one bystander was hit in the head in the crossfire. Thankfully, an off-duty paramedic was in the area and was able to offer assistance until ambulances arrived.

Police took both men into custody and reports say one of them wounded and taken to a nearby hospital.

Chevy Adds Active Safety Tech To 2018 Tahoe Police Vehicles [w/Video] 5

The 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe PPV is the first vehicle in its class able to minimize potential crash speeds or help avoid accidents all together.

Aside from the active safety tech, the Tahoe PPV (Police Pursuit Vehicle) also comes with a wide array of safety enhancing features as standard, such as ESC or a Rear Vision Camera with Rear Park Assist.

“We want to protect our protectors and help them get home safely at the end of every shift,” said GM exec, Ed Peper. “The safety technologies we are introducing on the Tahoe PPV may serve as a second set of eyes.”

The new tech is part of Chevrolet’s Enhanced Driver Assist Package, which features Low Speed Forward Automatic Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Safety Alert Driver Seat and Power Adjustable Pedals.

The Low Speed Forward Automatic Braking feature has never been offered on a pursuit-rated vehicle before. It works by applying the brakes automatically to help reduce the severity of a crash, as long as the vehicle is traveling at a low speed and the driver hasn’t already applied the brakes.

Meanwhile, the GM-patented Safety Alert Seat system can alert the driver through haptic seat-bottom vibration pulses, instead of the usual audible crash avoidance alerts.

“When they’re on road patrol, police officers are constantly multitasking,” said Royal Oak PD retired chief, Theodore Quisenberry. “Now when officers are scanning their surroundings, so is their vehicle. That will help them stay safe.”

Warning: You Might Fall Asleep Watching This Texas Highway Chase 1
Dec
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in Dashcam, Offbeat News, Police, video on 12 1st, 2017

When you think about a highway chase, you’re probably imagining the suspect weaving through traffic dangerously, as police try to reel him in.

Apparently, that’s not always the case. This incident occurred in Denton, Texas, where a man driving a dark sedan was being chased down by a large number of law enforcement vehicles.

The man who caught the action on camera and was also trapped in the middle of it, had this to say: “I entered the highway not realizing I was getting on in the middle of a high speed chase. I was surrounded by cops and highway patrol.”

He goes on to say that he had no choice but to continue driving until the chase, which was anything but “high-speed”, came to an end.

Apparently, everybody was doing around 26 mph (42 km/h), and the man in the dashcam car was wondering how come the cops were having such a hard time immobilizing the suspect’s vehicle – which is a fair question.

In the end, after a brief standoff, the officers managed to take down the suspect without firing their guns, which is definitely a win.

The owner of a bright red Chevrolet Corvette led Florida police on a high-speed chase through residential streets on Tuesday night.

Footage released from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office shows the drug suspect driving recklessly and narrowly avoiding a number of collisions in their attempt to evade authorities.

During the chase, the Corvette owner repeatedly drove on the wrong side of the road, ran red lights, clipped a number of other vehicles, and mounted a curb and median strip to avoid getting caught in traffic.

Police officers in the pursuing helicopter managed to follow the driver to an apartment complex in Port Orange. However, the suspect bailed out of the car and has yet to be found by the authorities.

Police were able to retrieve a gun from the rented Corvette and hope to use receipts found in the vehicle to hunt the suspect down, WESH reports.

Thieves Steal Four Teslas, Claim They Were A Gift From A Guy Named Tesla 27

Fans can hardly wait to get their hands on the Tesla Model 3 but four thieves in Utah apparently decided to go for something a tad more luxurious.

According to KSL, a member of the Utah Highway Patrol was in the middle of a traffic stop at around 1 a.m. on Friday when he noticed a Tesla Model S stop behind his vehicle. The trooper noticed something was off about the driver – likely his age – and called the South Salt Lake police department to investigate.

When an officer approached the driver, 24 year old Shane Smith said he was simply going to the nearby Tesla dealership to return the vehicle. However, the officer noticed Smith had a bag of keys and was bizarrely claiming his name was Tesla. He eventually told an even crazier story about being given the Tesla and the keys by a “a guy he hardly knew.”

The officer didn’t buy Smith’s story and additional officers arrived to begin investigating if the dealership had been broken into. As this was happening, a second Tesla drove by and officers approached the vehicle after it ran out of power a few blocks away.

The car was reportedly driven by 31 year old William Weist who claimed his name was Carlos Romero. Police were able to confirm he was in possession of several stolen items from the dealership and they arrested him.

Police eventually caught the other two thieves and their stolen vehicles and each claimed the cars were given to them by a man named Tesla.

The group is facing a lengthy list of charges and the South Salt Lake police department is still investigating how the thefts happened and if anyone else was involved.

TV judge and Fox News host Jeanine Pirro will be on the other side of the courtroom after being clocked driving 119 mph in a 65 mph zone in New York’s Tioga County.

NY Daily News claims that Pirro was driving a Cadillac at the time and was stopped by a trooper at approximately 1:15 pm on Sunday afternoon.

The 66-year-old claims she was visiting her sick mother at the time of the infraction.

“I had been driving for hours to visit my ailing 89-year-old mom and didn’t realize how fast I was driving. I believe in the rule of law and I will pay the consequences.”

If convicted, Pirro will be slapped with a hefty fine and could have her license hit with 11 points. If that were to happen, her license would be automatically suspended.

Funnily enough, Pirro was pulled over just one day after hitting out at the Clintons, suggesting that they are above the law.

If only she followed the law like she expects everyone else to…

Israel Wants To Make Double Parking A Criminal Act On Par With Drunk Driving 22
Nov
Posted by Michael Gauthier in Offbeat News, Police on 11 22nd, 2017

Getting double parked is a major inconvenience as drivers could be stuck waiting around for hours for another person to arrive and allow them to exit their parking space.

While the double parking is annoying, it could soon carry some serious consequences in Israel as Fox News is reporting Michael Malchieli has introduced a bill in the Knesset which would punish double parkers as seriously as people who drive drunk or drive without a license.

The Israel National News reports the bill states “Existing traffic laws regulate the movement of vehicles, parking and pedestrian traffic” but “provisions of the law do not currently grant clear enforcement powers to municipal police officers and inspectors for parking lots in shared buildings.” As a result, the bill was introduced to “make it clear that parking in a lot contrary to traffic regulations, in a manner that restricts or prevents the passage of vehicles, in a manner that is not safe, is a [criminal] offense, and police officers will have the enforcement powers already established by law.”

In essence, the bill would give police officers the power to deal with double parkers in a variety of different locations and provide them with tools to discourage the activity.

The bill doesn’t specify which penalties double parkers would face but Fox News notes double parking would be added to a list of criminal acts which result in a fine or a minimum of two years in prison.

A deputy from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office came incredibly close to being involved in a plane crash on Sunday as the officer was on North Keene Road when a single engine aircraft used the roadway to make an emergency landing.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, two deputies were in the area for unrelated service call when an airplane flew directly over them and crashed into the ground at approximately 10:23 a.m. Following the close call, the deputies raced to the scene and discovered both the pilot and his passenger were uninjured.

The pilot, Marc Benedict, told deputies he was returning to the Clearwater Airpark after refueling at the Zephyrhills Municipal Airport earlier in the day. As Benedict was flying over Clearwater, Florida he said the plane started to experience engine problems and didn’t believe he would be able to make it to the airport.

Benedict started looking for a safe place to land and that’s when he noticed the two police vehicles on North Keene Road. After waiting for an opening, Benedict brought the plane in for landing but it clipped a tree which caused to plane to spin and crash.

Fu*k Trump Decal Causes Stir In Texas After Sheriff Hints At Disorderly Conduct Charge Against Owner 16
Nov
Posted by Michael Gauthier in Donald Trump, Offbeat News, Police, Reports on 11 16th, 2017

Donald Trump’s approval rating is a dismal 38.1 percent and it’s no surprise that much of the country doesn’t like him or his policies.

A couple in Texas decided to vent their frustrations by putting a large decal on the back of their GMC Sierra which stated “F*ck Trump and f*ck you for voting for him.”

Karen Forsenca told Houston’s KPRC 2 that she and her husband have been driving around with the decal on the truck for almost a year and she has received mostly positive feedback.

Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls wasn’t a fan of the decal and posted an image of the truck on Facebook with a message saying “I have received numerous calls regarding the offensive display on this truck as it is often seen along FM 359. If you know who owns this truck or it is yours, I would like to discuss it with you. Our Prosecutor has informed us she would accept Disorderly Conduct charges regarding it, but I feel we could come to an agreement regarding a modification to it.”

In the comments section of the post, Nehls explained a disorderly conduct charge means “(a) A person commits an offense if he intentionally or knowingly: (1) uses abusive, indecent, profane, or vulgar language in a public place, and the language by its very utterance tends to incite an immediate breach of the peace; (2) makes an offensive gesture or display in a public place, and the gesture or display tends to incite an immediate breach of the peace.”

In essence, Nehls was trying to reach out to the owner of the truck to get them to change the message so it didn’t contain any f-bombs. It seems he was simply seeking a reasonable agreement that would suit all parties without having to get the courts involved.

Despite his efforts, Mike Forsenca told KHOU he has “No plans to take it down, unless he [Sheriff Nehls] can show me where it says that in the law book.” He added, “It’s not coming down until the weather takes it down or I replace it with something else.”

The station also reached out to the Fort Bend County District Attorney who said Nehls didn’t consult him before posting the message and wouldn’t be pursuing charges in the case.

The driver of a McLaren 720S decided to turn the highway into his own test track, on Sunday morning, in Alpharetta, Georgia, USA.

The man was spotted by a police officer, who was patrolling the Georgia State Route 400, doing well over the 65mph (105km/h) legal limit, so she immediately activated the emergency lights and started to pursue the supercar.

After several miles, during which both vehicles achieved speeds of approximately 155mph (250km/h), the officer admitted that she was about to call off the chase, when the suspect pulled over, with “smoke coming from the brakes”, according to the Alpharetta Police spokesman, Jason Muenzer, quoted by WSBTV.

When the officer approached the supercar, she noticed that “the driver’s eyes appeared to be glassy”, and “a strong smell of alcohol” was coming from the cockpit. The suspect, who was identified as 46-year old Dwayne Sherwood Pope, Patch reports, said that he didn’t notice the blue lights, nor hear the siren, and admitted that he had a few drinks before hitting the road.

Pope was then subjected to a sobriety test, which he failed, and was taken into custody, charged with driving under the influence, speeding, and failing to maintain lane. Later on, officers discovered that his driving license was also expired.

Dumb And Dumber BMW M3 Street-Racers Fail To Notice Cop Behind Them 14

We can understand not picking up an undercover cop in a beige Taurus, but a blacked out Explorer on your tail at a red light? Come on…

You’d think that spotting a large black SUV with a spotlight in your rear view mirror would be easy-peasy, and that it would stop you from doing something silly in your BMW M3.

Then again, if your attention is directed elsewhere, you’re likely to get in trouble, just like the people driving this pair of BMW M3s, unaware of the Ford Explorer-based Police Interceptor Utility trailing them.

Alas, these two German super-sedans still lined up at the light and began racing each other as soon as the “green” flashed. Hot on their heels, the police, pulling them over a little bit further up the road.

We couldn’t help but notice that the BMWs didn’t seem to be going all out, at least not directly off the line. It’s probably why the Interceptor had no trouble keeping up as all three cars accelerated past the intersection.

Hopefully those drivers will think again before using a public road as their own personal drag strip, that is, if they still have their licenses.

Massachusetts Police Bust Driver With Fake License Plate Made From A Pizza Box 13
Nov
Posted by Michael Gauthier in Offbeat News, Police, Reports on 11 13th, 2017

Most Americans can no longer afford to purchase a new vehicle and it doesn’t help that after the initial purchase drivers are forced to shell out even more for registration fees, plate fees, and insurance coverage.

One driver in Massachusetts thought they could get around these inconveniences by simply making their own license plate and hoping no one would notice it said “Mass” instead of Massachusetts. Unfortunately, police in the town of Hopkinton noticed a few things wrong with the driver’s plate as the department noted it was created from a cardboard pizza box and had letters written in magic marker.

Unsurprisingly, the driver was pulled over and hit with a variety of different charges including operating an uninsured vehicle, operating an unregistered vehicle, and attaching “fake homemade” plates.

According to Value Penguin, operating a vehicle without insurance in Massachusetts is a civil infraction and could cost the driver a fine of up to $5,000, up to a year in jail, and the loss of their driving privileges for a year. Given that the driver owns a late model Buick Century, the fees from this stunt could end up costing more than the car is worth.

O Canada: Five Naked People Arrested After Bizarre Kidnapping And Crash 8

Posted by Michael Gauthier in Canada, Offbeat News, Police, Reports on 11 8th, 2017

Canada is often seeing as America’s friendly neighbor to the north but the country pulled a Florida earlier this week thanks to a bizarre naked kidnapping.

According to the CBC News, three people were kidnapped at around 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning and forced into a vehicle against their will. Thankfully, all three were able to escape and flag down a passing motorist who offered their assistance.

The kidnappers weren’t deterred by this development and rammed into the back of the truck that was being driven by the good samaritan. The crash didn’t injure the victims but it sent the kidnapper’s car into a ditch. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police arrived shortly thereafter and were surprised to find five naked suspects.

Police took them into custody but four of them had to be transported to the hospital for undisclosed injuries. The three adult suspects will be charged with kidnapping and resisting arrest while the other two suspects were “youths” and were released without charges.

The investigation is still ongoing but the RCMP believes “this was a targeted incident and that all parties were known to each other.” Unsurprisingly, police also believe drugs or alcohol may have been involved.

Mother Arrested After Having Her Son Hold Down Pool On Roof Of Minivan 3

A mother in Wisconsin is facing serious charges after she admitted to driving around Saukville with her 9 year old son on the roof of her minivan.

According to WISN, 28 year old Amber Schmunk was transporting a plastic pool and didn’t have anything to tie it down with so she had her son get up on the roof and hold it down. A concerned citizen called 911 and told the operator what was happening as she continued to follow the vehicle.

Schmunk eventually pulled over and removed her son and the pool from the roof of the minivan and put both of them inside the vehicle.

Police eventually caught up to Schmunk who reportedly told officers her son was only on the roof for “maybe 20 to 30 seconds” and she didn’t think it would be an issue because her farther used to have her to things like that when she was her son’s age.

That explanation didn’t go over well with police or prosecutors and Schmunk is now facing a felony charge of recklessly endangering safety. She is scheduled to appear in Ozaukee County Circuit Court on November 11th and she could be facing up to ten years in jail if convicted.
