|V8 Supercar vs Acrobatic Plane: Video||
Ah, Red Bull; always ready to satisfy the need for more exciting and thrilling videos.
Red Bull Racing Australia has done something pretty amazing – and very entertaining, might we add. Just simply because of the fact that they can, the Red Bull team down under decided to pit one of its acrobatic planes against a V8 supercar.
Beautifully shot on a Gold Coast beach in Australia, the race seems to be pretty close. The beautiful surroundings provide the race with an epic feel – almost like a battle over territory.
The V8 was driven by Red Bull Racing Australia driver, Jamie Whincup. Whincup has already proved to be a force to be reckoned with as he has successfully won four V8 Championships.
The pilot, on the other hand – Joel Haski – is not afraid of the challenge, and is seen bringing his plane dangerously close to the sand a couple of times.
The video also serves as a clever marketing gimmick for the upcoming Gold Coast race of the 2013 V8 Supercar season.
Check out the video below and place your bets – supercar or plane?

|Bulgarian Designer Goes Wild With American Muscle Car||
The first line in the press release mentions Bulgarian Design Studio, Vilner. Call me narrow minded, but I can’t think of the last automotive marvel to eminate from the eastern block country. Which I suppose is why this Vilner Cherokee is so special.
Starting life as a previous-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8, an already powerful SUV, the car first made a stop at legendary/insane tuning house Henessy, where they boosted the cars 400horses to a frankly frightening 600hp. Thankfully that power is distributed via all 4 wheels, or the owner would go through rear tyres like Chappies.
Dubbed the SRT-600, after arriving in Bulgaria, the car then underwent the Vilner transformation, the results of which you are currently viewing. The car has been created to the custom spec of the owner, who is not named.
Apparently much attention was paid to the steering wheel; covered in Alcantara, the owner wanted a very specific shape and feel. The rest of the interior follows a similar style, swathed in red and black Alcantara, combined with black leather, trimmed with ornamental red seams.
External modifications, besides the bodywork were made to the headlights, with daytime LEDs added and Xenon headlamps fitted, rounding off the new, hyper-aggressive look.
If your heart has always desired a muscular American SUV with crazy power and a Bulgarian-inspired interior, Vilner Design Studio will tailor each project to the individual.

|The Most Beautiful Cabriolet Ever Is Now A Bit Faster||
Italians have a reputation for creating beautiful objects. They’re a nation that seemed to sacrifice almost everything for the sake of aesthetics; older Italian cars had a formidable reputation for being undriveable, unrealiable, but one look and you were quite possibly in love.
I should know, I am Italian. Although the most beautiful thing I have ever created was a wooden birdfeeder for a grade school project. But I digress. The motorvehicle over which you are currently drooling is the Maserati GrandCabrio Sports. The GranCabrio was no lay-about, so quite why they needed to make it faster is beyond me.
As you are well aware, the GranCabrio is by far and away the most beautiful Cabriolet ever built. Fact. There is drama, beauty and power in spades. Like dating a lingerie model who enjoys kickboxing. And just in case that was a little boring for you, they’ve cranked it up a bit.
Borrowing the 4.7 litre V8 from the Maserati GranTursimo Stradale, which looks and sounds like a thunderstorm in a Bond film, the GranCabrio gets uprated brakes, suspension and a new aerokit to deal with the extra power.
The naturally aspirated alloy V8 delivers 331kW, or 450hp, to the rear wheels via an improved 7 speed flappy paddle transmission. I imagine the engineers at Maserati were peering over the shoulders of their compadrés at Ferrari when they designed that one.
Because Italians are the sort of people who wave supercars past instead of arresting the drivers (Switzerland, I’m looking at you here) the GranCabrio has a new exhaust system to make it louder beyond 2500rpm. For your aural pleasure, please enjoy this video of one minute of pure Maserati sound. Glorious.
The GranCabrio Sports is on sale right now, prices are unconfirmed which means you probably have to ask. And you know what they say about that. If you have to ask, don’t bother.

|Mercedes Launches Most Powerful C-Class Ever||
It looks like if you want something fast and German and muscular, you will have to give Mercedes Benz a call. While their main rivals seem to have gone a bit soft in terms of design, Merc are cranking it up continuously with wider wheel arches, angrier front ends and even more aggressive rear ends.
Have a good look at this, the new Mercedes Benz C63 AMG Coupe Black Series, to give the car it’s full title. It’s the not the first C Coupe Black, that arrived a few years ago with a warning letter to owners asking them to please drive in perfect conditions or else risk certain death. Oh, and sign here so you can’t sue us when that happens.
This new model is even more insane, if that’s possible. Employing the legend-in-its-own-day 6.2 litre naturally aspirated V8 (which they call the 63, but hey, what’s 100cc between friends) the new C 63 Black delivers 380kW, or 620hp. That is quite remarkable, given that it’s the lightest and smallest Mercedes to make use of that engine. The C63 that you can buy right now for around R800 000 in South Africa puts out 336kW, nothing to sneeze at but almost paltry in comparison.
Acceleration from standstill to 100km/h is at a claimed 4.2 seconds; fast, but I must admit I thought it would crack the 4 second barrier. The engine borrows heavily from the internals developed for the SLS AMG Gull-Wing, and given that this car is lighter and more track focused, we wonder which would be fastest around a track. Have Mercedes accidentally built a C-Class faster than it’s flagship supercar?
If track driving is your thing, Merc will set you up with the Black Series Track Package, which makes this car even more track orientated. But you’d have to be a seriously wealthy track day enthusiast to run one of these, given that the showroom model stands at over R800k. Deliveries start in 2012 and I wouldn’t be surprised if you needed over R1.5m of your hard earned Rands to get your hands on one.

|Audi A5 DTM Concept Shown||
Audi has unmasked the A5 DTM concept, much to the excitement of auto enthusiasts. Interestingly, Audi has done the release prior to the grand opening at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This is also expected to replace the car maker’s four-door A4 DTM that had grabbed the DTM title for the brand four times from 2004
The automaker, though, is still quiet on the performance details and specifics of the vehicle. However, it has been revealed that the car internally termed R17, will be equipping a high-strength carbon-fiber monocoque with a steel roll cage that is fully-compliant with the most recent safety regulations.
The power train will be a V8 engine adapted with slight tweaks from an A4 DTM. The engine returns approximately 460 PS (340 kW / 456 PS) of power.
Though the unmasking was of a pre-facelift replica, Audi has said that the final production edition will have a design based on the 2012 A5 Coupe. The car might hit the street by the end of 2011 or early 2012.
|Lexus Brings New Race-Tuned Versions to Tokyo||
Lexus has brought 3 sports cars to the Tokyo Auto Salon. Among them, the CT200 H F Sport was earlier spotted at the Australian Motor Show in October with some differences. Lexus also has brought in two variants of the IS F model, the CCS-R (Circuit Club Sport Racer) and Club Performance Accessory.
As the name suggests the CCS-R was made for better performance on the circuit. There are many track-oriented fittings like race suspension, brakes, cooling and exhaust systems, mechanical limited-slip differential and forged alloys with racing tires. The car has 6-speed safety harness, which would ease the safety concern when speeding.
CCS-R’s bonnet, boot lid, front and rear spoilers all are made of carbon fiber. Carbon fiber is also featured in the interior for the centre console and the door trims. To give that sporty feel the steering wheel diameter is shortened. The roll cage is a new frameless one, windows are made of polycarbonate.
The other sibling of the IS F model, Club Performance Accessory comes from the Toyota Racing Department (TRD). It is the most powerful car in the IS series and comes with a 5.0 liter V8 engine producing a whopping 416 HP @ 6,600rpm and 371 lb-ft maximum torque @ 5200rpm.
The Club Performance Accessory sports a carbon fiber hood, rear diffuser, front and rear spoilers, sports suspension and brakes, titanium exhaust, magnesium rims and mechanical limited-slip differential.
This race bred car has been given a carbon switch panel base, paddle shift for quicker and smoother gear changes and orange sports seats in the interior.
|Ferrari 458 Challenge Spotted Racing Around Ferrari HQ & Fiorano (Video)||
The Ferrari 458 Challenge has been spotted doing some testing on the Fiorano track and around the Ferrari headquarters. A video that has emerged online via YouTube brings in not many details except for the noise it makes, and we love that growl.
We get to understand that this racer machine, a take off from the 458 Italia built for Ferrari’s single-racing series, comes sporting a 4499cc V8 engine that returns 570 PS (562 hp / 419 kW) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque. Specs suggest that this is coupled to a modified dual-clutch gearbox with ‘F1-Trac’ for any kind of track condition. T
Built with a race suspension that comprises solid aluminum bushings, stiffer springs, and single-rate dampers and Brembo CCM2 brakes, the car sports 19-inch wheels that run on Pirelli rubber. Extremely thin body panels, carbon fiber components and Lexan windows are being attributed to the reduced weight.
The video shows the 458 Challenge speeding up the Fiorano test track in 1 minute and 16.5 seconds. Here’s the video:
|Audi Shuns RS4 Plans, to Make New RS6 Version||
Audi will not be producing a new RS4. Instead of making a new RS4, the company has decided to go ahead and make a few changes to the RS6 . The new RS6 is likely to be equipped with a powerful twin-turbo V8 engine that pumps out 600 PS (441 kW / 592 bhp) similar to the RS7.
But the question is, is Audi really making the right decision by letting go of the new RS4 idea? After all the RS4 is one model that scored the greatest success out of all the cars in the series.
Audi ought to learn a lesson or two from BMW who had their famous M3 not just as a four-door sedan but also as a two door coupe.
|Renault Engine Formula to take Competition Head On||
Renault has reaffirmed that its engine formula for 2013 will even out the playing field in the auto industry. This was following suggestions that its existing 2.4 liter unit was not in the same league as that of Mercedes and Ferrari.
Officials at Renault have stated that there are technological innovations and that the competition is completely open.
The new formula is aimed at bringing car manufactures back into the F1 field, and the sources have said that they have been mindful that there are precise rules for the costs, the materials, the number of engines per season and the speed limit.
Renault has officially withdrawn from the position of being team owner of the Renault team, based in Enstone, but has affirmed that they will continue to supply engines for the coming three years.
During this period, the V8 engine formula will be transcended and the new four-cylinder turbos will debut in 2013.
Although the new formula was aimed at enticing car manufacturers back into the racing game, BMW will not be joining soon, and Volkswagen is not committed either.
Sources say that that Japanese have been expressing interest in the F1, and that Honda is seriously considering making a comeback.
|Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster to Make Frankfurt Show Debut||
The Frankfurt Motor Show of 2011 will be the venue where the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster will make its first public appearance. The officials have said that the launch of the SLS AMG Roadster will be the biggest launch from Mercedes-Benz in 2011.
However, the gull wing doors that are present in the standard SLS AMG will not be present on the Roadster, which may prove to be appealing to many who considered that the gull wing door feature was too over the top for their taste.
Reports confirm that the vehicle will be equipped with the 6.3 liter (6,208cc) V8, which promises an output of 420 kW (571 PS / 563 hp) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. Getting from 0-100 takes a mere 4.0 seconds and the SLS AMG Roadster will give a top speed of 309 km/h (192 mph).
|Toyota Tacoma X-Runner RTR to Roll Out at SEMA Motor Show||
Toyota has announced that they’ll be showcasing the Tacoma X-Runner RTR (Ready to Race) at the SEMA Motor Show. This powerful truck will prove to be the benchmark of the company’s engineering efficiency.
The TRD supercharged 5.7-liter V8 Tundra-sourced engine can power the vehicle with an output of 504 hp (376 kW / 511 PS) and 550 lb-ft (752 Nm) of torque. The lowered suspension and the race-specific Goodyear Eagle tires on the 15-inch wheels can offer a perfect take-off for the powerful engine of the Tacoma X-Runner RTR. It is also equipped with a custom side-exiting exhaust which counts in the design as well as the performance of the truck.
Toyota has styled the vehicle in sporty red / silver paint scheme and with special graphical works. They have outfitted a TRD steering wheel and a roll bar in the vehicle and have tried to eliminate maximum unwanted elements from the interior to make it look bold and comfortable.
|RENNtech C74 Konzept Shown; Based on Mercedes C63 AMG||
RENNtech has introduced their C74 Konzept based on the Mercedes C63 AMG. The C74 Konzept includes a widebody kit, rear spoiler, front splitter, rear diffuser (all made from carbon fiber) and the set of Nitto INVO performance tires which will be fitted upon three-piece forged aluminum wheels.
It outfits the 6.2-liter V8 engine with a revised ECU, a modified air intake (with high-flow air filters), an upgraded camshaft, and new cylinder heads. These modifications under the hood will complement the V8 in producing a power output of 605 hp (451 kW / 613 PS) and 555 lb-ft (752 Nm) of torque. It can speed up the car to cover a quarter mile by126 mph (203 km/h) in 11.4 seconds. The top-speed is claimed to be an impressive 204 mph (328 km/h).
The tuners will be installing an adjustable sports suspension, a limited slip rear differential, high performance brakes, and carbon fiber stabilizer bars to make the car to remain the same as planted. The company has made the package available for orders at price tag starting from $11,950 (€8,580).
|2012 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Spied on the Test Track||
The Nürburgring circuit in Germany was the venue for some hard testing of the upcoming 2012 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. At the occasion, some spy shots were taken and the rest of the world gets to have a glimpse of what the prototype is likely to look like.
Very cleverly camouflaged in a checkered design, it’s tough to see what lies under the pattern, but since a rendering has been seen earlier it will be safe to assume that body-design will be similar to that.
The rumor is that the engine of the next Camaro Z28 will be the same 6.2 liter LSA V8 that goes into the Cadillac CTS-V. This piece produces 556 bhp (415 kW) and 551 lb-ft of torque (746 Nm).
It’s possible that Chevy may tune it a little higher for the Z28 or perhaps just leave it at that. Set to make its debut at the Detroit Auto Show next January, more pictures and details of the Camaro Z28 will be out soon.

|BMW M5F10 Spy Pictures Appear Online||
We have been hearing much about the BMW M5F10 of late, and the latest is that a few spy pictures have been posted online. The credit goes to WCF, who has caught hold of a series of pictures of the upcoming car from the BMW stables.
One interesting aspect about these pictures is that one of them is a shot of the interiors caught on cam for the first time.
The BMW M5F10 is likely to be offered with a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 from the X5 M / X6 M. What we get to learn is that it will be tuned to produce up to 592 hp (441 kW / 600 PS) instead of 547 hp (408 kW / 555 PS).
Going by the pictures, the car will sport a key fob perched in the space on the center console, between the two cup holders. BMW is likely to bring the car for show at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, where it will make its debut. More pictures below:
